While this administration would like you to believe
that the real predator is someone from the Middle East who
worships Allah, women in this country (as well
as from every other country) are not so lucky. An American woman
is more likely to be murdered by an intimate
partner than by any other group of people. For those of you who are not
familiar with the definition of an “intimate
partner” let me tell you the words are not synonymous with “Person from
Islam”.
A woman’s intimate partner is defined as a current
or former husband, cohabitant, date, and/or boyfriend.
The statistics show that 17,000 Americans are
murdered annually in this country. While men are more likely to
be murdered overall, women are over 3 times more
likely to be killed by an intimate partner compared to men.
It is estimated that a woman is seven times more
likely to be murdered by an intimate partner than by a stranger.
Not only that, but nearly 5.3 million intimate
partner victimizations occur among American women ages 18 and
older each year. This violence results in nearly
2.0 million injuries annually, or 4 injuries every minute. What is even
more astonishing is the number of American children
murdered by a parent(s) every year.
While this administration has shown no interest
in the physical and mental well being of women in this country,
we do know that they are interested in helping
wealthy corporations. The following statistics should spark attention.
According to The National Violence Against Women
Survey (NVAWS), American women lose nearly 8.0 million
days of paid work each year because of violence
perpetrated against them by intimate partners. This is the equivalent
of 32,114 full-time jobs each year.
In reality, instead of murdering thousands to
make ‘merica safer, dubya should focus on depleting the number of
intimate relationships formed between women and
men while expanding the number of children raised in orphanages
to be sure they aren’t murdered by their #1 threat…their
parents.
As usual, the white, privileged, rich man wants
to make his interests our own. We all know why Iraq has been the
target of dubya’s liberation campaign while so
many people in America need to become empowered and liberated.
