Subject: Reagan & Atta, and more 'factual' incoherence

BC, a follow up on your request for confirmation on:

Claim: A convicted terrorist-Mohammad Atta- was released by Israel
at the insistence of the United States participated in the September 11
terrorist attacks on America (as reported in Boston Globe, SF Chronicle. etc.)

     Status: False.

The man "confused" with Atta was Mahmoud Atta.

BUT MORE IMPORTANT HOLES & OLD MATH

According to the FBI web site details on alleged suspects, there are:

2 Al-Hamzis
3 Al-Shehris (2 brothers, their father a Saudi Diplomat)
3 Al-Ghamdis
6 Suspects without any details
2 Suspects who are the same person!!!

(Nawaf Alhazmi/Salem Alhazmi- the FBI told the media that Salem Alhamzi
was an alias of Nawaf Alhamzi.  Not surprisingly, they are both:

- Possible Saudi nationals
- Possible residents of Fort Lee, New Jersey; Wayne, New Jersey)

Now I know we are supposed to patriotically assume that all Muslims
have the same surname- but really what are the odds that out of a pool of
19 suspects, almost half share one of 3 names?

And this synthesis from the New York Times, Washington Post and other
sources- there are:

3 suspects whose fathers deny their sons involvment in the 911 attacks-
including Saudi diplomat Ahmed Alshehri, based in Bombay, India, who
purportedly denied he was the father of hijacker Waleed M. Alshehri or
that he had ever served in the United States. Diplomatic lists, however,
show an Ahmed Alshehri as second secretary at the Saudi Embassy in
Washington, and property records, law enforcement sources and witnesses
have linked him with Waleed. Reports from a Saudi newspaper editor said
that both Waleed and Wail Alshehri, another hijacker, were Ahmed's sons.
(I beleive they are his sons, I'm not so sure they are hijackers.  Just
as most folks easliy believe that Bin Laden's father and brother both
died in aircraft crashes, but would find it more of a stretch to swallow
that they were both over Texas!)

Mohammad Atta's father, a Lawyer in Cairo, who identified his son by
name and by the picture widely circulated in the US media, also denied
his son's involvement and has claimed he spoke with Atta AFTER the attacks.

These details were printed in the New York Times 9/14 -Mohamed Atta and
Abdulaziz Alomari, appear as graduates of the U.S. International
Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., and the Aerospace Medical
School at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, respectively.

Saeed Alghamdi and Ahmed Alghamdi, have the same names as men listed at
a housing facility for foreign military trainees at Pensacola. In
addition, a man named Saeed Alghamdi graduated from the Defense Language
Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

To confuse matters more, there are other stories in the foreign press
which bring the total of hijackers still alive to 6! And apprarently,
one has been dead for two years.

I'm still sifting and comparing but if you want to check these details
out- here are some of the links.
