Subject:  Unbreakable. Another quiet masterpiece.

BC, you are way off in your review.
Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense are all about subdued perception.
Bruce Willis's character in both films are numb and in mental shock.
Shyamalan uses Willis's ordinary person character to distract us from
the amazing things that happen in these films.
So why shouldn't this same character be distracted by his own numbness.
This is why the obvious escapes him.

These two films build slowly.  The long, purposeful shots are there to build
the sense that the answers are just around the corner.  Of course you only get
tiny pieces along with more mysteries.  You have to pay attention.  These are
films for detail oriented people.  I doubt that all of the people who "loved"
The Sixth Sense noticed all of the details in it.
They were just amazed by the ending.

The plot of Unbreakable is something I never thought possible.
The classic story of the rise of a hero from a serious perspective.
The ending made everything make sense, all at once...just like The Sixth Sense.
It wasn't quite the surprise, but it did the job.

You don't have to be into comic books to get this movie.
However, I am a former comic book collector.
Whenever any analysis of "the hero" surfaced in text or conversation, I was just not interested.
It always just seemed like making cheese more important than it should be.
I read comic books because I liked them.

When I go to a film, I'm not not looking for real.
I'm looking for a distraction from the trivial things of life.
I never went to see dramas until M. Night Shyamalan came along.
(Anyway, it's a movie.  You've got to suspend some belief.)

Unbreakable is this first of a trilogy, so see it again.  It is amazing.
You just have to think about it.

Onehandle,
Out of respect for the differeing views we hold, I don't want to argue,
but I would like to say one thing and that's - are you kidding?
How "numb and in mental shock" would a guy have to be to not realize
that he's had super-strength for 45 years?
Or to realize that he hasn't eaten in six months?

Just kidding.
I get your general drift, but I'm not real good at hidden parallels and stuff.
I've only seen two reviews.
One guy agreed with me, one guy agreed with you.

Thanks,
