Subject: Dem-bashing only helps
Repugs (and I KNOW you don't want to do that)
Bart,
I enjoy your site and think you have a lot of
good info and insights. I don't agree with your
constant Dem-bashing, however. If there were
a third party we could go to and vote for in
November, I'd say good on you, but there isn't!
What is our alternative to voting Democrat?
They're our only hope (for now) to awaken from
the Bush nightmare.
Not only that, but what exactly is it that you'd
like the Dems to do? Chuck Schumer and
Nancy Pelosi were both ripping Bush a new one
today. Pelosi killed on CNN (see Daily Kos
for transcript). Schumer is proposing breaking
up the oil companies and starting to really develop
alternate energy sources. Also, the Dems put
forth hundreds of bills a year that are stomped on
by the Repugs before even getting out of committee.
The Dems have motions in the House and
the Senate to impeach and to censure Bush, respectively.
You have to remember, Bart, that the
Dems have NO SUBPOENA POWER. They can't even
hold hearings in Congress. They can't
do ANYTHING while the Repugs control all the
committees, as is their majority right. And quite
often, unless you watch C-SPAN, you will not
see them or their views represented on any talk
show. I think you know why that is. Can you say
"Fair and Balanced" "Liberal Media"?
Once we get Dems back in control (and, please
ICB, Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rice/Rummy are
frog-marched in orange jumpsuits), we can start
getting this country back. I say public financing
for elections and instant runoff voting would
get the pink tutu Dems out of Congress for good.
But for right now, please just quit the bashing.
The last thing we want to do is buy into Repug
talking points like "Dems are just as bad as
Repugs". That just makes people feel like they have
no alternatives and they don't vote. The majority
of Americans are Democrats and when more
people turn out (barring Diebold), Dems win.
So stop promoting hopelessness and concentrate
on getting the House and Senate back in 2006.
Keep swingin' Bart,
Laura in Yonkers |
