Volume 1351 - I'll Never Heil Again

  Wednesday    July 7, 2004

 Quotes

"There is uneasiness worldwide that a single country is globally dominating all the military,
economic, political and cultural dimensions of power..the United Nations was effectively
sidelined in March 2003, when the United States and its coalition partners decided to
unilaterally invade and occupy Iraq. This episode shattered the confidence of the world's
people in the inviolability of national sovereignty...
--Malaysian PM Badawi, saying the invasion of Iraq "shattered the confidence" of the world
by showing that no country's sovereignty is safe from the most powerful nation,    Attribution

Yes, the whole world changed when the spoiled little boy saw something shiny that he wanted.
He's never had to work, and he's never heard the word, "No," so he's used to getting everything
he wants and this time he wanted Iraq's oil - so he just took it and dared anyone to try and stop him.

When will a moderate Republican stand up to this madman?

Halliburton's Gravy Train just keeps on rollin'

Pentagon documents obtained by NBC News support charges the military contractor wasted
precious resources "even on routine services" in Iraq, overspending for fancy computers, 5-star hotels,
and CD players in employee-driven SUV's. Marie deYoung, a former Army chaplain who audited
accounts for a Halliburton subsidiary and had defended the company against "political slurs" in the past,
has radically changed her opinion. "It's just a gravy train," she said, claiming "there was no effort
to hold down costs because all costs were passed on directly to taxpayers.  She repeatedly complained to
superiors of waste and fraud.  The company's response, according to deYoung, was: 'We can be
as dumb and stupid as we want in the first year of a war, nobody's going to care.'"

..
Why should we care?  We have no complaints!
(Note: I don't want to run this - but why aren't they speaking up?)

DeYoung cited charges including "$50,000 a month for soda, at $45 a case; $1 million a month
to clean clothes - or $100 for each 15-pound bag of laundry. 'That money could have been used
to take care of soldiers,' she said."

..
"Wars are expensive, everybody knows that..."

 Quotes

"We lost global credibility for years to come because by invading on false pretenses,
Bush made America a remorseless killer. Bush's rallying cry in his so-called war on terrorism
has been the 3,000 innocents who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The estimates of Iraqi civilians killed
by us, from human rights groups and wire services, range from 3,200 up to 11,300, more than
three times the number of civilians who died on 9/11.

Catholic Hit man Calls Kerry "Heretic"
I warned John to nip this, but they never listen to me

  Click  Here

  Excerpt:
A Catholic lawyer has filed heresy charges against Sen. John Kerry with the Archdiocese of Boston,
accusing the Democratic presidential candidate of bringing "most serious scandal to the American public"
by receiving Holy Communion as a pro-choice Catholic.

The 18-page document was sent to the archdiocese June 14, but released to the public only yesterday
by Marc Balestrieri, a Los Angeles-based canon lawyer and an assistant judge with the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles' tribunal, an ecclesiastical court.

"Heresy is a public, ecclesiastical crime," said Mr. Balestrieri, 33, whose complaint is posted at www.defide.com.
"It affects entire communities. It is one of the greatest sins you can commit."

 Remember the Madonna quote?
"I got out after they told me tongue kissing was as big a sin as murder."
 That's what we have here.

Kerry taking Holy Communion is worse than Bush lying to get 870 men killed.
Eating a wafer and killing 870 brave soldiers while stealing Iraq's oil are equal crimes?

I warned Kerry weeks ago that he should take care of this.
Kerry's team would be stronger with me on it, but maybe they want to lose?
What could account for Kerry allowing this to fester?

The GOP could rightfully argue, "If Kerry is this bad at seeing obvious dangers ahead,
can we trust him to be president while we're fighting Al Qaeda?"

Do we have another Gore on our hands?

Bush, Cheney Lie About Drug Costs
The Pharm lobby pays them more than anybody but the Saudis

  Click  Here

  Excerpt:
Bush and Cheney continue to dishonestly claim that trial lawyers are to blame for skyrocketing
health care costs.  Bush said Friday that "frivolous lawsuits...run up the cost of medicine" and that
solutions to health care problems were stopped in Congress "because the trial lawyers are powerful
in the Senate."  Similarly, Cheney said last week that "medical liability reform" is the key to "control the
cost of health care."  According to the CBO, lawsuits have little -- if anything -- to do with health care costs.

The Congressional Budget Office says costs from malpractice lawsuits represent less than 2% of the nation's
total health care spending, and the tort reform legislation pushed by President Bush would reduce health
insurance premiums by less than one-half of one percent.  .

Too bad the American whore press represents Team Bush instead of doing their damn jobs.
They won't report the facts because they want the Illegal Thugs to be elected in November.

Maybe John Edwards will straighten them out on this?

 Quotes

"Britain's spy chiefs will be blamed in a damning report next week into the intelligence errors
used to justify war against Iraq. And Blair's unshakeable conviction that Saddam had WMDs
will be blown apart in Lord Butler's report.   Blair will almost certainly have to admit he was wrong.
Butler is finalising the wording of the report on what is seen as the worst bungle by British intelligence
since Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982."
    --Oonagh Blackman,     Attribution

If Blair and Bush ran any other two nations on earth, they'd be on trial for war crimes.
But since our tax dollars give Bush more might, he can rape and murder countries at will
and there's nobody who can will stand up to him and say, "Enough, you sick bastard!"

...to his dismay, Mr. Nader discovered that three-plus years of the Bush-Cheney regime have concentrated
the minds of many of his erstwhile supporters. The first to abandon his cause were celebrities like Michael Moore,
who declared his preference for retired general Wesley Clark last fall and urges current visitors to his Web site to
devote themselves to electing Democrats in November. (According to Mr. Nader, he wasn't even invited to the
Washington premiere of Mr. Moore's blockbuster movie, Fahrenheit 9/11. His response was an embittered open
letter to his "old friend" that made sport of the filmmaker's waist size.)

"It's going to be fun watching the GOP trying to attack Edwards when they have to justify Cheney.
It is hard to think of a modern politician whose corruption in office has been as conspicuous as Cheney.
At least Cheney did not make the Agnew mistake and sell himself cheap (what was it a $500 bribe?),
(No, it was $10,000.)  Cheney's corruption is on the Enron scale.

..

$722 million?   ...they stole that for breakfast.
For lunch, they raped Culli-fornia to the tune of $500,000,000 in one day,
and for supper they ate the life savings of all their employees.

Cheney went from making tens of millions to stealing tens of billions - or more.
We still haven't found the  $11,000,000,000,000 (trillion) missing from Gore's lock box.

N.Y. Post Mocks Its Gephardt Gaffe
When you screw up this bad, what choice do you have?

  Click  Here

  Excerpt:
At last, the New York Post is reporting it right: Edwards is the running mate of Kerry.
On Wednesday, the whore tabloid corrected its erroneous cover story that Gephardt would
be Kerry's pick. Kerry named Edwards shortly after the edition hit newsstands Tuesday.

"Rest assured that generous helpings of crow were eaten here yesterday - and the leftovers
will surely last a few more days," the tabloid said. "We do hope you'll forgive the error
  - it certainly was one for the record books."

Instead of being cute about it, why don't you promise to try to get a story right instead of
"scooping" your rivals by a half hour? People think you're in the news business, but I know
you're in the revenue-raising business and you're whore yourself for that extra dime.

 Tennessee
Kerry can't win it. But can Bush lose it?

  Click  Here

  Excerpt:
"There are three things I know about John Kerry," says Randal Vinson.
"First, that he speaks three or four languages, and one of them is French.
Second, that he's married to an ex-senator's wife who's worth a billion dollars.
And third, he is supposedly a Vietnam vet."

(This handjob) never voted for a Republican presidential candidate before Bush.
He regrets his Bush vote, just not enough to check the box for Kerry. "I don't like
what Bush has done in Iraq. I don't think one American boy is worth that whole country.
But I don't like Kerry. Did you ever meet someone and just not like the way he looks?
That's the way I feel about Kerry. I just don't like the way he looks."

..
  Tennessee handjob

Christ, no wonder Gore lost Tennessee.
They'd rather have a murdering monkey than a war hero with Vietnamese shrapnel

  Excerpt:
Spider-Man and Michael Moore: fellow do-gooders or mortal enemies? Questions of box office competition aside,
a posting on film geek Harry Knowles's popular Ain't It Cool News website suggests that at least one movie fan thinks
the latter. In response to Knowles's supportive review of Fahrenheit 9/11, a true believer with the screen name "spidey2k"
warned Knowles to "kepp [sic] your fat ass political views out of an 'Entertainment' site. . . . I didn't realize that this website
was taking [to] promoting 'political' propaganda. Shame on you Harry."

Spidey2k's meager yelp of digital protest is unlikely to affect the process already under way that Fahrenheit 9/11 has helped ignite.
For decades, cultural pundits have bemoaned the transformation of politics into entertainment. But now that Fahrenheit 9/11 has
broken documentary records, taking in $23.9 million on its opening weekend, the world of entertainment is invading the realm of politics.
It's given hope to some that movie marketing, online fan networks, and grassroots organizing might just converge into a Bush-seeking
missile. It could also be the first stirring of a new category of high-concept Hollywood product: the activist blockbuster.

Several people were trampled but not seriously hurt Wednesday as thousands took part
in the first bull run of the San Fermin festival, dashing along the slippery cobblestone streets.

None of the runners was gored, and only four injuries were serious enough to require treatment.
Two bulls skidded and fell, as did some runners after a night of rain left the streets slick.

 Quotes

"The biggest lie in Fahrenheit 9/11 is the picture of pre-war Iraq. Moore shows a collage of
smiling Iraqis, a couple getting married, children flying kites. There's no picture of a gassed Kurd,
or eye gouging in Saddam's torture chambers, no picture of Iraqi troops tossing premature babies
  out of incubators in Kuwait..."
     --Ralph R. Reiland,   Attribution

Ralph, that was Moore's biggest lie?  You're saying those things didn't happen?
I think he was just saying that many people were living normal lives under Saddam.

By the way, that Kuwait incubator thing?  That ever happened - it was made up by the same assholes
who swore Saddam had WMDs in 2003.  The incubator hoax was exposed several years ago.

Looks like the biggest lie is yours, Ralph.

Subject: feeling better than four years ago

 BC,
 I, like you, would have preferred Wesley Clark for the Kerry VP pick;
however, I'm feeling MUCH better than after Gore made his pick.

I remember my first words at this point in the 2000 race were:
"I'm completely under whelmed."  In contrast, I'm pretty damn excited today.

One more point on 2000 - even with that pick, Gore still won.
 Steve

I heard the vulgar Pigboy's take - saying Edwards was a big mistake.
He said Kerry should've picked Lieberman because Lieberman was pro-war,
pro-tax cuts and loves most everything that Bush does, which is exactly the
opposite of what a Democrat is supposed to stand for..

The Bushies have gone too far
   by Gene Lyons

  Excerpt:
Will 2004 be remembered as the year of the great conservative crackup? Has the Bush administration and
its phalanx of rightwing pundits, talk radio shouters, party-line newspapers and TV news channels grown so
intoxicated with power as to leave the majority of Americans feeling uneasy? Could something like what
happened to the Democratic left over the follies of the Woodstock generation during the Vietnam era be
happening to the Republican right? That is, that many independent voters decide that the party has gone off
the ideological deep end and no longer represents people like themselves. Actually, I ought to have written
"the great pseudo-conservative" crackup. Philosophically, there's nothing remotely conservative about the
utopian fantasy of turning Iraq into Iowa through bombs and torture chambers, as many libertarian thinkers
have argued from the beginning, or about using the "war on terror" as a pretext to claim for President Bush
dictatorial powers to imprison with no trial anybody he deems an enemya constitutional monstrosity recently
thrown back in Bush's face by the same U.S. Supreme Court that installed him in office.
