"We're on a constant hunt for bin Laden. We're keeping the pressure on him, keeping him in hiding.
And today Zarqawi understands the coalition and Iraqi troops are on a constant hunt for him as well.
Bin Laden's message is a telling reminder that al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil.
Stopping him is the greatest challenge of our day...."
      --Bush, lying again    Attribution

bin Laden could attack us any time he wants to, but he obviously chooses not to - I wonder why?
What was bin Laden promised?  His freedom?  Did Bush call off the hunt in a deal with them?
Did Bush agree not to arrest Osama and Zarqawi if they don't attack again on U.S. soil?

What makes a terrorist decide to put away his terror?

 Giuliana Sgrena Returns to Rome
US ceases fire on Italian ally, safe passage allowed

  Click  Here

Draped in a blanket and apparently hooked up to an intravenous drip, former hostage Giuliana Sgrena
was carried off a plane upon returning from Bush's bloody war on Saturday, hours after American troops
fired on the car taking her to Baghdad's airport, wounding her and killing the Italian agent protecting her.

Her brother, Ivan Sgrena, told reporters she was very happy to be back in Italy but was "very sorry and sad"
about the death of Nicola Calipari, who was killed when he threw himself over Sgrena to protect her from U.S. fire.
Giuliana Sgrena told Rai News 24 by telephone that "we thought the danger was over after my rescue."

"And instead, suddenly there was this shooting. We were hit by a spray of fire," she said. "I was talking to Nicola ...
when he leaned over me, probably to defend me, and then he slumped over. That was a truly terrible thing."

Pier Scolari, the journalist's boyfriend, said she told him: "The most difficult moment was when I saw the person
who had saved me die in my arms," according to the ANSA news agency.

US attack against Italians was deliberate: companion

  Click  Here

The companion of freed Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena has leveled serious accusations at US troops
who fired at her convoy as it was nearing Baghdad airport, saying the shooting had been deliberate.

"The Americans and Italians knew about (her) car coming," Pier Scolari said on leaving Rome's Celio
military hospital where Sgrena is to undergo surgery following her return home.

"They were 700 meters (yards) from the airport, which means that they had passed all checkpoints."

The shooting late Friday was witnessed by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's office which was on the
phone with one of the secret service agents, said Scolari. "Then the US military silenced the cellphones," he charged.
"Giuliana had information, and the US military did not want her to survive," he added.

Women Worse Off Now Than 10 Years Ago
Bush is turning back the progress we made

Many women are worse off today than they were 10 years ago, women around the world
say in a new report that accuses governments of failing to keep their pledge to achieve gender equality.

"The women of the world don't need any more words from their governments ÷ they want action,
they want resources and they want governments to protect and advance women's human rights," the report said.

The women's report sounded very different from the speeches this week at the U.N. conference,
where governments have been touting their records on women's rights.

"You have an administration that failed to protect investors.  On the one hand, they are saying
the system does not need to be fixed, there was nothing wrong with it, they fought against the
changes that we wanted, and then they say, 'Take your savings and put it into that very system.'
Where would we be if those who are retiring had had their money in Enron and Worldcom?"
--New York AG Eliot Spitzer, saying Bush has no credibility on S.S. privitizationAttribution

Subject: Why Hasn't Al-Qaeda Attacked Us Again?

I can't help thinking that if I were them, I'd be saying to myself, "Boy that one attack is going a long way.
We don't have to lift another finger. They are doing our work for us. Their economy is about to tank...they are
curtailing their basic freedoms and plan to end more...they are seriously divided and beginning to hate each other
with a passion...our recruitment is up 10 fold...Americas respect in the world has reached an all time low..."

I think they are enjoying just sitting back and watching us implode from within.
It must be extremely entertaining to them. Not to mention we can't get bin Laden.
So who looks like the winner here?

CY, I understand, but why blow up some dump in Masul and kill six people
when blowing up a Ferris Wheel at Coney Island would get so much more press?

From now until the end of March,
"Not me" will double your order.

Order 1 get 1 free,
order 5 get 5 free,
order a dozen, get 2 dozen free,
you can't go wrong with a deal like that.

Judge: Musclehead Illegally Delayed Nurse Laws

  Click  Here

In a significant blow to Gov. Musclegead, Superior Court Judge Judy Hersher has ruled
that he acted illegally when he delayed implementation of a state law requiring hospitals
to have at least one nurse for every five patients. The California Nurses Association sued
Musclehead on Dec. 21. CNA attorney James Eggleston told the judge Friday that they
sought the one-in-five ratio to combat "the managed care philosophy of staffing, to make it
 so lean it becomes dangerous."

Subject: Why Al Qaeda Hasn't Attacked Us

Since we talked, I thought of something that is a corollary to why Al Qaeda hasn't attacked us.
We already have proof that they can be bought off and stopped from attacking - look at the deal
the rulers of Saudi Arabia made with Al Qaeda to stop most or all of the attacks inside Saudi Arabia.

And the Saudis are Bush's good friends, aren't they? Bush probably brokered this deal through Prince Bandar
(or "Bandar Bush" as he is fondly known by the BFEE).  The bin Laden family is heavily invested in the same
industries that stand to profit from the endless war scenario. Osama bin Laden is simply attending to the family business.
He knows that, if he attacks the US again, Bush would have to whack him to survive politically, and that it might upset
 their dandy profit center.

It kind of gets back to your question: would evil men kill to steal billions?
Of course they would, and they are.

I just finished listening to Show 69, and your comments on the stock market  are spot on. If you want to invest,
stick to natural resources (oil, gas, precious metals, industrial metals, etc.), and keep the rest of your cash liquid by putting it in
a short-term Treasury money market fund (short-term ONLY). If you still want to invest, use a trailing stop-loss strategy.
Here's the way it works: say you purchase 100 shares of a stock or mutual fund at $10 a share. If the price of the stock or
fund drops 25%, to $8 a share, sell it, don't hold on to it. If the price rises, say to $15 a share, adjust your strike, or selling
price accordingly. At $15, your trailing stop loss number would be $11.25. It's kind of like poker: "you've got to know when
to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run."

Note that, in this strategy, if the price rises, then falls to your new trailing stop loss, you still walk away with modest gains.
If your initial investment drops in value to $800 (your original stop loss price), you've minimized your losses.

 I have some other ideas to pass along to Bartcop.com readers;
if I ever get enough free time, I'll post them to your stocks section.

 Keep hammerin'

Ah, the irony of it all. The administration of George W. Bush, easily the most homophobic president of modern times,
deployed a homosexual escort and promoter of gay life styles as one of its "propaganda as journalism" shills.

James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, infiltrated the White House press corps as a so-called journalist working for two
GOP-backed web sites. He quit after some left-wing blogs outed him but - like most Washington scandals - the story gets juicier.

The bloggers revealed Guckert had registered a number of web site domain names with gay themes, including hotmilitarystud.com.
Guckert admitted registering the names but claimed he never put up any web sites with gay themes.

Like so many who shill for Bush's White House, Guckert is a liar.

GOP: OSHA laws just get in the way

 Over There
    by  Michael Hammerschlag

Lately, I've been considering whether Bush's justification for the Iraq War:  we are fighting them there
so they won't come here  isn't completely without merit. After all, there have, incredibly, been no attacks
in America since 9-11. And creating a theme park for jihadists in Iraq certainly has kept them occupied.
It was brought home to me by a friend in Hawaii.  "I believe that. Hey, I'm a lifelong Democrat. But there
haven't been any attacks here." Again and again this is mentioned by US troops as the rationale for their
struggle and suffering, and it seems logical.

But it breaks down on closer examination. First, there's the madness of creating a vicious insurgent war in
a place that didn't have one. No matter how many times Bush and the neocons say so, there were no terrorists
directed at America in Iraq before the invasion*, until we invaded and created them. Perhaps Iraq has functioned
as a gigantic bug zapper for jihadi mosquitoes- where were the suicide bomber when Saddam reigned?- but most
fanatics are home grown. Was it really worth the immense price in lives and treasure? The Arabs who flocked to
fight the good fight in Iraq weren't planning or able to mount attacks on America. Maybe in Iraq, they will get the
training to do so: a prison university for criminals, except it's Al Qaida training terrorists.

MWO - why is everyone acting like to say MWO was good / they liked / miss it is a slap at you?
The right wing noise machine has been under construction since Buckley earned his chops attacking
the Civil Rights movement in the late 1950s - you know, local control is more important than equal rights
and protection for ALL American citizens.

That too long tenure, and the filthy lucre of Scaife and Moon, means that you operate in what our brave
servicemen would call "a target rich environment" - meaning there is room for Bartcop, MWO, and many many others ... .

Subject: It's time to draft the Clintons

  Click  Here

I support the Clintons as much as any Democrat...but why aren't they attacking this administration?
Why isn't Bill speaking up and asking what the fuck is going on in HIS NAME as an American citizen?

Anybody remember the obscene quotes from Harry S Truman as an elder statesman?
Let me give you a few, fresh from my vintage copy of , circa 1976:

"Nixon is a shifty-eyed goddamn liar, and people know it." -- 1961
"I don't think the son-of-a-bitch [Nixon] knows the difference between telling the truth and lying."
"I never gave anybody hell--I just told the truth on these fellows and they thought it was hell."

Why aren't the Democrats talking like this?
A few, maybe...but it's long past the time for the Clintons to pull a fucking bartcop and start telling the truth.

 Neocon Amorality
   by Robert Parry at  consortiumnews.com

  Click  Here

The Bush administration sets out worthy-sounding goals - freedom, democracy, security - and then it
applies whatever tactics are deemed necessary - torture, murder, unprovoked invasions - along with
an aggressive propaganda strategy at home.

Next, when events take a positive turn, the neoconservatives claim credit, even if they had only a minor role
or the events were largely coincidental. Criticism of the bloody means is washed away by celebration of the
virtuous ends. Mainstream commentators join in, cheering the neocons' farsightedness. Those who opposed
the original actions are pushed to the political margins.

After two years of bloody war in Iraq and 1,500 U.S. soldiers dead, the neocons have reached such a moment.
They are claiming vindication because of several developments in the Middle East, including the Iraqi election,
tentative progress in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and Lebanese demands for a full Syrian withdrawal.

Subject: Zapruder gave Dan rather his start

In November, 1963, Dan Rather was an unknown newscaster at a small Texas TV station.
When the Zapruder film of the assassination of John Kennedy became public knowledge,
Dan Rather reported from Texas that he had seen the film, and that it showed John Kennedy's
head "rocket forward" from the head shot.

Single frames were shown from the film in magazines and on TV, but the actual moving image was
not shown to the American public until Jim Garrison's trial of CIA agent Clay Shaw made the Zapurder
film public, and proved once and for all that the head shot pushed John Kennedy's head backwards.

Shortly after Rather's "rocket forward" broadcast, he was given his first network slot and the start of
his rise to media stardom. His original "rock forward" broadcast appears briefly under the opening titles
 of Oliver Stone's "JFK".

 The Hunting of the President

I saw the Conason/Lyons movie in full for the first time Saturday.

There weren't a lot of surprises, but I didn't know that the crooked judge, David Sentelle,
(appointed by Reagan as a favor to Jesse Helms) who yanked Independent Prosecutor Robert Fisk
out of the way so Ken Starr could launch an open-ended assault on the 1996 election results was the
same crooked judge who reversed the convictions of Ollie North and John Poindexter for the BFEE.

Sentelle has always been a right-wing tobacco whore, and Clinton was a pain to the killers who push
tobacco on children so Sentelle hated him. Add in a generous helping of religious insanity and outright
disgust for anyone who'd give a black man a break ...and you have a GOP motive for impeachment.

 Subject: bankruptcy

 Bart ol Cop,
Noxious laws enjoy support from a coalition of all the Republicans plus a rotating handful of Democrats
who have ties to interested parties. Joe Biden (D-Coward from Del) in one of these Democrats.
Delaware is home to most corporations and many Credit Card Companies.

Corporations and wealthy people can protect their assets from creditors in Bankruptcy by using something
called an "asset protection trust"  a kind of savings fund that can't be touched by creditors. Of course, Delaware
offers a generous trust to lure businesses and affluent individuals to park their money there.

The driving force behind the Bankruptcy Bill are the Credit Card Companies from Delaware.

'Nuke Syria' Republican now says he was joking
     by Jackson Thoreau

  Click  Here

After substantial public outcry about twice saying he wants to "nuke" Syria, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson
[R-Texas] is now back-pedaling and contradicting what his chief of staff told Roll Call, the non-partisan
Capitol Hill publication that broke the story.

In a March 4 article in the Dallas Morning News, one of numerous places I sent the Roll Call report,
Johnson claimed he was "kind of joking" about the matter. The paper quoted Johnson as saying: "I was
kind of joking. You know. We were talking between veterans. We were swapping sea stories - things that
we'd done in the military." Then Johnson added, "Syria actively opposes our allies' efforts on terrorism,
and they finance and harbor terrorists in Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon. We're sure of that. They even fought
against us on the border during the Iraq incursion. So I don't think they're a friend of the United States at all."

Johnson has said at least  twice he wanted to kill everyone in Syria in one nuclear swoop, just because he has
some unproven notion that weapons of mass destruction are being hidden there. He has said this to a public
gathering in a speech in a church, no less, on Feb. 19, and privately to Bush himself at the White House.

"We bombed their children. We killed their husbands and wives and we bombed them,
and we're going to do it again. Just random killing like that, mass killing to force a
population to get rid of Saddam so we can move in and take over and control the oil,
God damn it, if that's not evil, I don't know what would be. You know, Bush, he's really
the evil one in here.  We're the Nazis in this game and I think a lot of people in this country

Bin Laden, before 9/11, was an extremist with a few loony followers.  Your typical Arab was
more centrist, pro-USA.  We gave them money for their oil, and we export Western decadence
like TV and bluejeans.  Your "typical Arab in the street" would not take up arms against America
because they were typically peace-loving "don't fuck with me, and I won't fuck with you" people.
Much like America, pre-9/11.  Most Americans would have been aghast at the notion of striking
Iraq first, say, back when Clinton was President.

With 9/11, Bin Laden took a calculated risk of pissing off moderate Moslems, calculating that we
would strike back, and strike back hard.  We did.  This is what he wanted.

We've got tonza books by tonza authors.

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahidin to the furthest point east to raise the al-Qaida flag,
in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic, and political losses
without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits for [Halliburton].  This is in addition
to our having experience in using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers.
We bled Russia for 10 years, until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat. So we are
continuing to bleed America to the point of bankruptcy

Subject: Bush's deal with Al Qaida

Bart, I have no doubt that Bush has some sort of deal with them to lay off on us
in exchange for letting Osamma tread this pebble unharmed.  My thought is that they
knew it would happen and let it in exchange we would fly out the bin Ladens and
leave Osamma alone in exchange for no more attacks.

This gave the PNAC their "Pearl Harbor" to take over the country and the Middle East.
Invading Iraq gave Saudi Arabia a reason for us to move out our bases there and that's what Osamma wanted.

Everyone is happy except the dead Iraqis and the families of our solders who are dead or maimed.
 R Carlson

When Bush reminds us, "We're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here,"
that makes me wonder why the "evildoers" would travel to Iraq to fight the world's best military
instead of coming to America to create REAL terror by killing innocent weomen and children.

If 9-11 taught us anything, it's that our enemy isn't stupid.
So Al Qaeda has chosen to fight "over there" instead of here, where the battle began?

 That makes no sense.
The only thing that does make sense is that they've made a deal with Bush.

 Kansas AG Attacks Women's Rights

  Click  Here

The Kansas Attorney General, Phill Kline, is seeking medical records of women÷including their name, medical history,
sexual history, birth control practices and psychological profiles÷from two state abortion clinics as part of an alleged
criminal investigation he claims is about sexual abuse of minors.

"If the brief had not been filed publicly, we wouldn't even know that a Kansas court, operating in secret and using a gag rule
on the doctors, is demanding the most personal and private information about scores of patients from their physicians,"
said Gandy. "The court even denied these doctors the right to tell the patients that their records were requested, so the
women couldn't even defend themselves and their privacy."

Kline has a pattern of trying to force medical providers to report information about the past sexual history of women.
In 2003, his office tried to obtain information about girls younger than 16 who engaged in sexual activity.

"There's obviously no allegation of wrongdoing or criminal behavior by these women÷if there were, they'd have the right
to know the charges, the right to challenge release of their information, the right to confront their accusers, the right to
due process and the right to an attorney," said Gandy. "But these women don't even have basic rights in Kansas.
Phill Kline should be impeached for gross misuse of his office and abuse of public trust."

Bush has given all religiously-insane knuckledraggers the "courage" to turn back the clock.
The whole world is either laughing at America's downfall or cringing in fear they made be next on Bush's hit list.

 Subject: Murder Italian style

Questions being asked are: "What did Sgrena know that made her a target;" and "was the real target actually Calipari?"

I don't think we should blindly accept the official storyline.  Further, I am not about to consider
the old standby of "incompetance and over-reaction of stressed out kids" as an excuse in this case.

Someone had a clear cut idea of what they were doing.  Both the Italians and the US forces knew
that the entourage was coming, and they shot anyway.  The suspicious part is why the confiscation
of cellphones and denial of medical attention?

Bart, somethings is very amiss in this latest little gambit in Iraq.

Besides, I'd think "best band" would require you to play electric guitars.

Pearl Jam got 39 percent, Radiohead (are they a group?) got 8 percent,

Funny, when people vote with their wallets, buying tickets and CDs, they vote U2.

To me, the very definition of "free enterprise" means free from government influence. After all, what else
does the word "free" mean? If the government is your owner, you are not free. You are in fact a slave ÷
and the government serves as owner, employer, and pickpocket all at once. They have your credit card
and are running up the bill. As things now stand, we have a $36,000 birth tax in this country. That's your
share of the debt from the moment you are born. Thanks, Bush!

What I can't understand is this: where the hell are all the conservatives?
Doesn't this debt make their skin crawl even more than yours?

The government is everywhere, expanding, and taking over. They are already in your churches ÷ and now
they want to own the company for whom you work! Why the hell aren't you freaking out?
