Bush's My Lai
by Robert Parry  as seen on  consortiumnews.com

 Link

 Excerpt:
The new U.S. atrocity in Iraq, the alleged murder of two dozen Iraqis by revenge-seeking Marines in Haditha,
appears likely to follow the course of other Iraq war-crimes cases, such as the prisoner abuse scandal at
Abu Ghraib - some low- or mid-level soldiers will be court-martialed and marched off to prison.

George W. Bush will offer some bromides about how the punishment shows that the United States honors
the rule of law and how the punishment is further proof of America's civilized behavior when compared with
the enemy's barbarity. It's also likely the U.S. news media won't place too much blame on Bush.

But the common thread from the bloody invasion of Iraq in 2003 through Abu Ghraib to Haditha is that Bush
cavalierly sent young Americans into a complex and frightening conflict with false and alarmist rhetoric ringing in their ears.

Bush 'Honors' Men He Killed

 Link

 Excerpt:
President Bush, who lied 2500 soldiers into their graves, visited America's most hallowed military burial ground
to try to convince military families that his legacy was worth the lives of the brave men lost in his quagmire.
He said Monday the nation must persevere in the war against terrorists because he would look weak
if he turned the ship away from the thousands of icebergs in its path.

Then he smirked and giggled.

Breaking the Law
Ten laws Bush chooses to ignore

 Link

 Excerpt:
March 9: Justice Department officials must give reports to Congress by certain dates
on how the FBI is using the USA Patriot Act to search homes and secretly seize papers.

Bush's signing statement: The president can order Justice Department officials to withhold
any information from Congress if he decides it could impair national security or executive branch operations.

Dec. 30, 2005: US interrogators cannot torture prisoners or otherwise subject them to cruel,
inhuman, and degrading treatment.

Bush's signing statement: The president, as commander in chief, can waive the torture ban
if he decides that harsh interrogation techniques will assist in preventing terrorist attacks.

The Hardest Word
   by Scott Ritter

 Link

 Excerpt:
Bush kicked himself for "talking too tough", while Blair ruminated on the decision to disband the Ba'athist
infrastructure that held Iraq together. Neither expressed any regret over the decision to invade Iraq in the first place.

Bush made no reference to the exaggerated and falsified claims about Iraqi WMDs he and Blair bandied about
so freely in the months leading up to the invasion. Blair did not reflect on the reality that Saddam's Iraq was a
more peaceful and prosperous land before they condemned Iraq to the horrific reality of insurgent-fed civil strife.

Subject: A big thanks to George Bush

Bart,

Where is your big thank you to George Bush for convicting Ken Lay and Skilling?

After all, he has prosecuted all of the corporate corruption that occurred during Clinton's administration.
If Clinton spent half as much time trying to govern the country as he did on getting BJ's from interns,
we wouldn't have the business scandals that we had during his administration and could have prevented 911.

Yes that is right this in 100% Clinton's fault.
It takes a real president to bring them to justice.

Darren with raw knuckles

Don't forget - he got Martha Stewart and Tommy Chong,

But Osama? He's still running free.

Thank you for your website!
It is my daily dose of sanity and more and more my only 'news' source,
since I have become so disgusted with the whore press in this country.
(Actually I think they give whores a bad name as most of them I'd think must be braver than they are.)

Any ways,  I wanted to applaud you on one of your very best pages, Issue 1771!

1) I really, really tried to watch that youtube video  without laughing out loud, just to see if  i could.
NOPE. A loud guffaw escaped me before I knew it. Gees, what a dumbass!
2) the cartoons were right on, as usual.

Letting our Soldiers Die

 Link

 Excerpt:
Rumsfeld and Cheney presided, under Gerald Ford, over the pull-out from Vietnam. They appear determined to make up
for a "humiliation" that ended up with Vietnam becoming an international trading partner.  Rumsfeld and Cheney are fighting
their own personal war in Iraq, at a cost of tens of thousands of lives and billions of dollars.

It is a megalomaniac crime that was unnecessary, counterproductive, and created a pit of horror, where a stable,
secular government (albeit run by a tyrant) once existed.

The U.S. used to be a nation that rewarded competence.
Now, our leaders become more empowered with each new failure.

Can Bloggers Get Real?
 The YearlyKos convention in Vegas

 Link

 Excerpt:
Next week, 1,000 devotees of the liberal blogging universe ÷ people who know one another only as pseudonyms
on a screen, connected by only their running commentaries ÷ will descend on the Riviera Hotel in hopes of affixing
names and faces to their online personas. The event has been dubbed the YearlyKos convention, and it is the first-ever
corporeal assemblage of the bloggers at the Web site Dailykos.com. These are the people who are said to be changing
the very nature of American politics, transforming the old smoke-filled room of insiders into an expansive chat room for
anyone who wants in. And so it's not surprising that Democratic luminaries like the party's chairman, Howard Dean
and its leaders in Congress, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, have arranged their schedules to address the convention,
along with at least a few 2008 presidential contenders. Political professionals and journalists will show up as well.

The Buck Stops with Bush

 Link

 Excerpt:
On Oct. 3, 1993, an American helicopter was shot down in Somalia. Efforts to rescue the downed pilots went
terribly wrong, and 18 Americans were killed. It was a humiliating incident for America. It also devastated 18 families.
When Clinton was told that his commanders on the ground had requested more troops but had been ignored by
Secretary of Defense Les Aspin, Clinton acted decisively and fired him. Throughout history, presidents have sacked
military leaders who failed them. Lincoln went through six generals before settling on Grant. Patton was passed over
for promotion by Roosevelt.  Truman fired MacArthur. Bush has chosen a different course. As criticism mounts over
the planning and execution of the Iraq war, eight retired generals have come forward in an unprecedented manner to
call for the resignation of Rumsfeld. The president has held firm, stating, 'I'm the decider, and I decide what's best.'"

Screwing our Veterans

 Link

 Excerpt:
Today, many of Bush's strongest supporters call the VA a welfare system. His critics claim he is working to
dismantle the VA, to ultimately privatize its services. Bush, who sends soldiers to risk their lives every day in Iraq,
strongly supports rescinding the lifetime healthcare benefits promised to WWII and Korean veterans. His proposed
budgets, despite dollar amount increases, don't factor in inflation or the increasing numbers of veterans needing
healthcare, and thus have repeatedly failed to fully fund benefits to the men and women who have served our country.
Consequently, VA hospitals and clinics have closed, many veterans' healthcare programs have been cut back or
eliminated, entire groups of vets have been denied eligibility for service, and those that are eligible may wait months
and even years for appointments and necessary surgeries at the remaining VA facilities. But the president lectures us
about the importance of supporting our troops.

Subject: South's Finest Chocolate

Bart,

Thanks once again for the South's Finest Chocolates.
I used to think that See's Chocolates were the best,
but I have to tell you, this box was FANTASTIC.
Not a dud in the assortment÷every single piece was fresh and rich.

I had never heard of this company prior to your ringing endorsement
(and I've lived in the South for virtually my entire life).

You can bet that I'll be sending these as gifts in the future.
If they make chocolate this good and they are smart enough
to advertise on your website, they must be good people.

George & Tony - Forever

 Link

 Excerpt:
At a time when divorce is evidently getting easier and more lucrative, it is touching to see one couple
soldiering on despite their domestic difficulties. Admittedly this "marriage" is between two men, which
would raise eyebrows (and possibly shotguns) in the senior partner's native Texas. It is, though, the
family of the other partner that remains most shocked, mortified indeed, by the enduring liaison.
And not only does the Labour Party feel betrayed and humiliated by the spectacle of Blair and Bush in action.
So do the Democrats. How, they ask, could a politician of the Centre-Left turn so effortlessly from
the embrace of Bill Clinton to a redneck Republican equivalent of Vlad the Impaler?

Subject: the Mexican border

It's and election year and there's two kinds of people, there's us - and there's them.
And we need to keep them from crossing the border and becoming an us.

So Bush want to deploy 6000 of the national guard to defend the border against the alien invaders,
and the Republicans want to build a wall that will keep them out. What a brilliant idea!

That's just what we need to solve the problem! But here's a better idea.
Why don't we hire some Mexicans to build the wall and defend the border.
After all, it's work no one else wants to do.
If you have a plan that's not going to work then there's no need to worry about doing it right.

Subject: Arianna

Hey Bart,

The Huffington Post came on the scene just about a year ago, and I thought that it was fairly decent.
They seemed to get a lot of good articles that showed some contempt for the bush administration and its policies.

Over the months I have seen more and more conservative comments on the different articles - case in point,
just last week there was an article about the Dixie Chicks (for whom I have a lot of admiration for their stating
their view, and basically saying the country music radio stations can stick it).  The comments were overwhelmingly
against these women who would dare to say the preznit is an embarrassment.

I rarely go there anymore, and this kind of crap huff is spewing is the finishing touch.
Take it easy,
Greg

We got a lot of replies, and of all those I read, not one person addressed the question.

That question is - why are there about 6 stories between the two "explosions?"

Many, many people said, "Use your f-ing head - the pancaking floors
pushed the air out the windows because it had no place else to go, moron!"

Guess what - I knew that.
But why did it blow the windows out of, say Floor 40 but not 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 46?

Subject: last word on you know who

Bart, I don't know [if you'll see this] or my emails telling you how it is with her not withstanding
but you don't listen and are stubborn as a mule when it comes to that issue completely.
I don't know what you have been smoking or which brand of chinaco you are sippiing right now
but i do know you are totally out of touch with main stream progressives when it comes to her.

This is my good buddy Fud - he runs the live Bartcop chat and helps with the Bartcop Forum.
Dude, you can use "stubborn" if you like.
A synonym might be "not easily persuaded."

I have yet to run into even one liberal anywhere any place that supports her anywhere at all.
Does anyone else here? Or in generall discussion at all?

Dude, I don't base my political positions on what everybody else is saying.
Maybe the best thing about having a page is weighing on on stories before hearing anyone else's opinion.
For a lot of years, I've been in a position to hear some news or a rumor then instantly publish my opinion,
THEN surfing the web to see who's with me and who's not, and that's almost as much fun as hot monkey sex.

Not one person ever i have ever talked to likes her on either side and that includes even the loony left.

Dude, the scientific polls put her 29 points ahead of whoever is Number Two.
Forgive me if I go with science over your personal anecdotes?

I guess that she is getting money from rupert murdoch isn't enough to change your mind.

ha ha

Dude, can you keep a secret?
Just between you and me?

Hillary plays poker better than Rupert the Fascist.
How in the world can anyone think she is the one getting rolled?

Let's assume - for a second - the fascists are right, that Bill is the most slippery weasel in the world.
She has 30 years experience dealing with him.
Who thinks Rupert is gonna fool her and make her head spin?

You know as well as most decent people we are all on the same side but on this issue you are dead wrong.

This isn't about right or wrong.
This is about Taylor vs Katherine - who will the masses vote for?

I have people asking me all the time, "What is Bart's fixation on her?"
and i don't have an answer really to that at all. She is not Bill and Bill was
not Mr Perfect by no means so would you vote for Yoko to be the Beatles?

To answer your question - no.
Yoko being a Beatle and retiring Bush are ...different things.

It doesn't seem to make any difference how many people say you are wrong on this point
but maybe you will realize in 08 that you were wrong or maybe not.

If I like the color blue, am I "wrong?"

I think Clinton was the best president ever.
I think his wife has his same politics.
That opinion has cost me a lot.

Hey what's a difference in opinion between a couple of liberals right?
If i can't make you see it then maybe some of your donaters might.

ha ha
Dude, trust me, dozens of donors have made their opinions very clear.
Most of them canceled their subscriptions without so much as a GFY.

You think for yourself, and i say, "I dunno what the hell he is thinking."

Odd that people would ask you what I'm thinking.

Then again it's maybe a blessing that we aren't all in lockstep drone mode
like "those people". And can be open to honest crititism.

You know the old phrase, "Don't talk about politics or religion?"
That's all we talk about here - mostly politics and some religion, but we can't talk about
certain subjects here because some people forget themselves and resort to personal insults.
That's too bad.

We need to retire the you-know-who talk to keep this site alive.
