The Secret World of Robert Gates
    by Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
Gates has long faced accusations of collaborating with Islamic extremists in Iran, arming Saddam
in Iraq, and politicizing U.S. intelligence to conform with the desires of policymakers - three key
areas that relate to his future job.

Gates skated past some of these controversies during his 1991 confirmation hearings to be CIA
director - and now Bush is seeking to slip Gates through the congressional approval process again,
by pressing for a quick confirmation by the end of the year, before the Demo Senate is seated.

If Bush's timetable is met, there will be no time for a serious investigation into Gates's past.

Fifteen years ago, Gates got a similar pass when leading Democrats agreed to put "bipartisanship"
ahead of careful oversight when Gates was nominated for the CIA job by President George H.W. Bush.

In 1991, despite doubts about Gates's honesty over Iran-Contra and other scandals, Gates
brushed aside accusations that he played secret roles in arming both sides of the Iran-Iraq War.
Since then, however, documents have surfaced that raise new questions about Gates's sweeping denials.

No, no, no to this crook for Defense.
The Democrats should tell Bush if he's successful at installing Gates it will be his f-ing last success.

Word of warning: If these Democrats, with all their power, decide to lay down for Bush and give him
everything he wants unchallenged, *I* will become their worst enemy - and you should join me.

G.O.P. campaign tactics reveal true character
  by Joe Conason

 Link

 Excerpt:
What exactly is wrong with the Republicans? Today, that question applies not to their rigidly
right-wing ideology, nor to their routine betrayal of their rigidly right-wing ideology, nor even to
their weird sexual hang-ups and hypocrisy, fascinating as all of those topics may be. Instead, on
the day after Election Day, what is at issue is the bad nature of the Republican political class
-- meaning the party officials, the consultants, and the elected officials who oversee both -- and
the poisoning of America's democratic process by their habitual misconduct. Republicans tend
to talk about honor, integrity, morality and character in almost mystical terms, often attributing
those qualities to themselves and their leaders. But the daily behavior of those who maintain
the party's power shows how irrelevant those concepts have become in reality.

GOP Furious at Der Fuhrer

 Link

 Excerpt:
Members and staff still reeling from Tuesday's rout are furious about Bush's decision to dump

Rumsfeld one day after their historic loss ... an earlier resignation could have given them a boost.
"They did this to protect themselves, but they couldn't protect us?"

"The White House said keeping the majority was a priority, but they failed to do the one thing that
could have made a difference," a House aide said Thursday. "For them to toss Rumsfeld one day
after the election was a slap in the face to everyone who worked hard to protect the majority."

Exit polling suggested that an overwhelming majority of voters disapproved of Bush's war bungling
and members and aides were frustrated with the timing of the announcement. The working relationship
between Bush and congressional Republicans will be an interesting subplot for the next Congress as
the GOP adjusts to its new role as group bitches to the Democratic majority.

Watching these right wing pricks go down in ignominious defeat was great, but watching

Subject: Diebold?

Bart, what went wrong with the Diebold plan?

David Lindorff just posted an article http://www.thiscantbehappening.net saying that
there never has been a plan for stealing electronic votes and using this election as "proof."

Now he's a good man, who's published a book detailing the legal bases for impeaching Bush, etc.,
but I don't buy his viewpoint that the electronic vote stealing is a myth. But what happened?

I wonder, for example, if they were just too conservative (pardon me) in their programming.
I mean, maybe they switched every 10th or every 5th Dem vote and it just wasn't enough.
That would explain all the very close races that were probably more like landslides.
But I don't know. Do you have a theory?

Liz Mac

Of course the Diebold machines were cheating in 2000, 2002 and 2004.
That's why the networks all called Florida for Gore, because the Florida exit polls
were overwhelmingly pro-Gore - but Bush knew the fix was in.

If the fix wasn't in, why did the GOP fight so hard to kill the paper trail?
When you buy a loaf of bread, you get a recipt saying what you bought and for how much.
When you play a video game and try to end it, it'll ask, "Are you sure you want to stop?"
But for choosing the leader of the free world, who needs verification?

I'll bet their own polling data told them they were too far behind to steal victory.

Parable:
Think about a couple of poker game cheaters in a weekly game.
They play all evening and break even but somehow, at the end of every night when
they raise the stakes, those two guys always win and there's some grumbling about it.
Hearing the grumbling, a smart cheat would be sure to have some high-profile losses to throw them off.

Remember, Diebold and ESS are owned by GOP backers, which should be a crime.
Second, the Diebold president all but "guaranteed" Ohio for Bush in 2004.

They should all be in jail - let's get them under oath and ask some questions.

Mehlman Fired by RNC

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, whose party lost Congress,
will step down from his post when his two-year term ends in January, GOP officials said Thursday.
The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because Mehlman had not yet made his intentions public.

Brian Jones, an RNC spokesman, declined to comment beyond saying that an announcement
about Mehlman's future with the party would be made in the days ahead.

God Hates Gay Evangelicals
Will Ted's love of hot man sex open the narrow mind of the religious right?

Let's assume the reaction of Haggard's stunned flock is also true, that many of his devout
Christian set are "devastated" and "shocked" and "pulverized" and "beaten with God's own

So, assuming all that, what's left? How about one overarching question: Will it make a difference?
Will it be enough to effect any sort of ideological or spiritual change among the uptight and the sexually rigid?
In short: Will God shake anyone awake?

Karl Rove Re-Aligned

 alternet.org

 Excerpt:
Bye bye, Turd Blossom. Karl Rove's dream of refashioning the American political landscape and
ushering in a generation of Republican rule is officially dead. The radical Republican revolution, which
began with Goldwater, hit paydirt with Reagan and reached its highwater mark with the 1994 Contract
With America, has come to a screeching halt, and it's largely the fault of George W's consigliere.

Why did they do it?
Why did they ignore disaster when they knew was coming?

Because they don't care about how history will eventually judge them.
They don't care about opinion polls.
They don't care about tax cuts or any of that.
They don't care about the Republican party.

They're stealing $350M a day and have been for 1000 days.
That's 350 billions and that's just from Iraq's oil

The Treasury has been looted and they've borrowed hundreds of billions more
from China and the Sauds that somebody, not they, will have to pay back someday.

They've dug such a deep financial hole for America only a Clinton could save us :)

Subject: Fascism - It Was Much Closer Than We Knew

Bart,

It has been a long six years.  With the recent sweep of the United States Congress by the Democrats,
I sincerely believe that the greatest threat to democracy in the history of America has been disarmed.
Sadly, I have concluded that this event was was not brought about because we in the opposition fought
bravely to the bitter end.  Instead, the end of the neocon jaugernaut was brought about by their own
arrogance and incompetence.  It is thus a bittersweet victory, but one for which I will be forever thankful.

I am sure there are a few of you who think I am being a bit overdramatic with these words.  That is fine.
The only thing that matters to me tonight is that the world is a much safer place than it was a week ago.
Now, when I travel abroad, I will no longer be ashamed to be an American.  I cannot tell you all how
good it feels to know that the American system of representative democracy has been vindicated.
I just hope we as a people have learned that extremists can never again be allowed to seize control
of all three branches of government, and that we must insist that the checks and balances written into
our Constitution must be kept alive, no matter what.

Regards,
 Ron

I think you're right.
If Bush had retained total power over everything, we would've lost the America we had left.

Torture Taxis Stops in Vegas

 klas-tv.com

 Excerpt:
This is the story of so called rendition planes, otherwise known as torture taxis. They are civilian aircraft
often owned by companies suspected of being fronts for the CIA. The planes are used to travel abroad,
kidnap suspects, and take them to dark places at the ends of the earth, from which few ever return.

It sounds like a faraway intrigue, except these alleged torture planes have made Las Vegas a regular pit stop.
The local news team has the video to prove it.

The Beech B-200 that flew into the North Las Vegas Airport on a warm July afternoon looked like other
private planes, but this one had a block on it, meaning it was extremely difficult to track its movements.

Trevor Paglen said, "These planes show up in and around Las Vegas fairly regularly. The Beech craft
you photographed, we see a lot. It's quite clearly controlled by CIA, if not out rightly owned by CIA."

Trevor Paglen is a doctoral candidate at University of California, Berkeley and the author of the book
about the so-called torture taxis, or what the CIA calls rendition planes.

Trevor Paglen said, "What this means in normal English is kidnapping people."

The Democrats have killed Bolton's appointment to the UN.
Next they need to block that bastard Gates for Defense because he's nothing but a bag man
for the BFEE who's willing to do anything to push the illegal Bush agenda - that must stop.

Maybe putting everybody under oath and asking about kidnapping and torture should be next?

I wish he, she or they would drop us a line and say "Hey."

Also, while NPR can broadcast some incredibly moving stories I am sick unto death of their
little asides about the Dems.  Just this morning I heard their male anchor say something like
"Democrats have an ambitious agenda for the 110th Congress...if they can stick together."

WTF?!  Why do they do that?

They've been taken over by the GOP.
NPR (some say) was the last place you could hear the truth, so it had to be taken out.

I sent them an email regarding this and asked that while they're writing their stories and
broadcasting about the Dems for the next two years that they should pretend they're
talking about Repuds that they're so afraid of.  Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest.

Oh yeah, can you tell me a little about the cranberry tinged corn I saw on your site?
Cheers

 Excerpt:
Gay leaders on Thursday canceled a parade in Jerusalem amid security concerns and pressure

The Gay Pride parade scheduled for Friday drew opposition from Jews, Christians and Muslims,
while hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Jews vented their disapproval by clashing with police and
burning trash bins in the streets several nights over the past week.

The parade dispute has become a flashpoint in the battle for gay rights in Israel, drawing

Computer Tyme Hosting is owned by Marc Perkel, who first put Bartcop on the Internet back in 1996 and keeps  Bartcop online today.

Marc hosts several other political sites including American Politics Journal, Political StrikesFaux News Channel, Seeds of Doubt and interesting sites like the
Church of Reality - a religion based on believing in everything that is real.

Our motto for this year is - "No Anti-Bush Site Left Behind". So - if you have an anti-bush site and you are  choking on hosting fees or dealing with threats - let us know and we'll help keep you online.

We also have that strongest server side spam filtering on the planet.
Check out Marx Mail for info on how you can have a Spam Free Email Account.
