Opposition to Iran Attack
 by Robert Parry

A number of U.S. military leaders have waged an extraordinary behind-the-scenes resistance
to what they fear is a secret plan by George W. Bush to wage war against Iran.

One intelligence source told me that Joint Chiefs chairman, Gen. Peter Pace, has explored the
possibility of resigning if Bush presses forward with air attacks against Iran, a war strategy
that might be done in coordination with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The Pentagon brass is raising an alarm over how stretched the U.S. military has become because of
fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, suggesting that another front in Iran could add to American vulnerabilities.

One intelligence source directed me to a paragraph in Seymour Hersh's new article in The New Yorker,
referring to Bush's order for hair-trigger preparations so he can attack Iran within 24 hours.

"I hear from commanders that the place where there is concern is with the family members,
that our troops, who have volunteered to serve the country, are willing to go into combat
multiple times, but that the concern is with the people on the home front. I understand that.
And that's one reason I go out of my way to constantly thank the family members."
-- The Giggler-in-Chief, who has convinced himself that the soldiers who have endured
2, 3 or even 4 terms don't want to come home, it's just the families whining,   Link

Subject: My first prediction of the new year from Jan 16

"If Bush tries to start a war with Iran the generals will mutiny.
They know that Iran is a much more powerful, better armed opponent
and that it would put our troops in Iraq in an untenable situation.
It would be a subtle, behind closed doors mutiny, but a refusal non-the-less."

Does anybody care?
Killed and wounded for no reason

When the Marine Corps pathologist said up to 70 percent of our casualties in Iraq were preventable
this means they were not killed or wounded only by enemy attack, but by negligence in Washington that
could have prevented these wounds and deaths, but did not.

What is the legal culpability of the drunken driver who gets tanked and kills five innocent victims?
And is released, gets drunk again, and kills five hundred more?
And does it again, gets drunk, drives, and kills a thousand more?

Even after the Marine Corps pathologist shames us by quantifying our negligence, this continues?

Bush to soldiers - shut the hell up

Soldiers at Walter Reed say they have been told they must not speak to the media.

"Some soldiers believe this is punishment for the trouble soldiers caused by talking to the media,"
one Medical Hold Unit soldier said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Soldiers say their sergeant major told them they must follow their chain of command when
they spot mold, mice or other problems in their quarters.

So, Bush doesn't want to help them - he wants them to shut the hell up.

Doomed to failure
U.S. can't tell friend from foe

"Obviously, the soldiers lack the necessary information about where to look and who to look for," said the
government engineer, who declined to give his name. "There are too many houses and too many hide-outs."

American military commanders in Iraq describe the security plan they began implementing in mid-February
as a rising tide: a gradual influx of thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops whose extended presence in the city's
violent neighborhoods will drown the militants' ability to stage bombings and sectarian killings.

But U.S. troops and Baghdad residents say the plan is hampered because security forces cannot identify,
let alone apprehend, the perpetrators. Shiite militiamen in the capital say they are keeping a low profile to
wait out the security plan.

"I don't know who I'm fighting most of the time," said Staff Sgt. Joseph Lopez.
"I don't know who is setting what IED."

Bush, McCain and the GOP think it's a great idea to send more soldiers into this bloody puzzle.
Will the Democrats make them pay for the unnecessary deaths that will result from their pigheadedness?

Subject: Nuremberg

It's too bad there's a whole generation out there that doesn't even KNOW about the Nuremberg trials
and the precedents that were set by the Allies that are being violated now by the worthless bunch in the
White House and aided and abetted by the sacless crowd in the Congress.

My Dad and three of my uncles served during WWII, one was killed in North Africa,  the others fought
in some of the worst combat in Europe and got more than a couple of Purple Hearts between them.

They gave their all to stop this kind of crap ever happening again and they'd all be outraged at what's
being done in our name by this bunch of miscreants.  Too bad they'll never be held accountable.

Yours is one of the best websites that depicts these people as the greedy, power hungry bastards that they are.
Keep swingin'.

Subject: Arianna's jealousy

Jack D made a very interesting observation on yesterday's page.

I never thought about how Arianna Huffington is jealous because
she never had any of Her success - either in marriage or in a political career.
Fascinating. I'm a woman and I missed that.

But unfortunately it doesn't explain her bashing of Gore or other Dems when she feels like it.

Hersh: Bush aiding Al Qaeda
 It's Iran-Contra all over again

New Yorker columnist Sy Hersh says the "single most explosive" element of his latest article involves an effort
by Bush to stem the growth of Shiite influence in the Middle East by funding violent Sunni groups.

In short, Bush is funding the people who are killing our soldiers.

Hersh says the U.S. has been "pumping money, a great deal of money, without congressional authority, without
any congressional oversight" for covert operations in the Middle East where it wants to "stop the Shiite spread
or the Shiite influence." Hersh says these funds have ended up in the hands of "three Sunni jihadist groups"
who are "connected to al Qaeda" but "want to take on Hezbollah."

"Bush is really taking his notion of executive privilege to the absolute limit here, running covert operations,
using money that was not authorized by Congress, supporting groups indirectly that are involved with the
same people that did 9/11."

Subject: Truman left office broke

Hey Bart,

Harry Truman left office deeply in debt and did not return to solvency until his memoirs were published.

After Bess Truman died, the Truman Library had to spend many thousands of dollars fixing the roof
and making repairs.  I don't think that this will be a problem at the BFEE Mansion in Paraguay.

Take care,

CIA Torture Prisons

On his last day in CIA custody, Marwan Jabour was stripped naked, seated in a chair and videotaped.
Afterward, he was shackled and blindfolded, headphones were put over his ears, and he was given an
injection that made him groggy. Jabour, was driven to an airstrip and put on a plane with at another prisoner.

Jabour had spent two years in a secret CIA prison. His account of life in that system, often does not accord
with the portrait the administration has offered of the CIA system. Jabour said Pakistani officers had beaten,
abused and burned him. Two American interrogators also questioned him and told him he would be rich if he
cooperated and would vanish for life if he refused.

Damn, that sounds like Kenneth Starr all over again.
"Do you want to die in prison or do you want your own TV show on FOX News?

Subject: guilty rotten scum

If you don't read anything else this year read "The Nuremberg Diaries".

Under the principles established at the Nuremberg trials Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove,
most of the Neocons, and various and assorted Bush lackeys would be headed for prison or
the gallows for their lies, duplicity, and warmongering.

That along with "The Arms Bazaar", should be required reading in every high school in the country.
In Nazi Germany the people who didn't obey orders were the real heroes and a lot of them paid with their lives.

"So you are suggesting that Bart is on someones payroll now?"

Like Hillary's? I suppose anything is possible, but I kinda doubt
that she would affiliate with someone like Bart. Rough language and all.

 ha ha
I'll bet Hill & Bill can teach me a thing or two about bad language.

But I'd love to see some rightards get their panties in a bundle about what Bart puts on his site.

If he is on someone's payroll, I'd like to know it.
Don't know if it would change my behavior or not, but I'd still like to know it.

Should I feel flattered or insulted?
She's not going to hire me for my great campaign ideas.
She already has the best in the business on her team for free.

She's not going to hire me to be her voice on the Internet because
there are so many bigger sites that have spell check and stuff.

But 1) he has been on Hillary's bandwagon from day one as far as I can tell.
2) I see no other evidence for it, other than his likes/dislikes.

I didn't get on her bandwagon until she became the Dem '08 favorite,
which started when, ten minutes after Kerry's 2004 concession speech?

These days, in casual conversation when nobody's trying to be cute, pundits say,
"Bush will let our soldiers die and leave the mess for Hillary to clean up,"
and nobody laughs because it's taken as a given that 2008 is hers to lose.

Forgive me if I saw that sooner than some.

Iraq pumped 3.5M barrels daily before Bush invaded
and then they got their 2003 Halliburton upgrade

Bush is stealing $220,000,000 every day.

No wonder they were so eager to start a war,

stealing  $220,000,000 every day.

It's the biggest theft in Earth's history.

Exxon made $10B profit in 90 days
$100M a day - all profit - because Bush started a fake war

Bush's "Bring 'em on" death taunt is up to...

3,149....3,160 American victims

We lost 11 more since last issue
while the Little Dictator plays with himself.

...and how much did BIG OIL make yesterday?
Exxon makes $108M - every day

(And that's just ONE oil company)

11 more soldiers dead,
but Exxon makes $75,000 profit per minute

Bush can live with that,
because Iraq's oil wells have no meters.

Bush has killed more Americans than Osama.

Losing Afghanistan

While media attention has been focused on the U.S. quagmire in Iraq, an equally failed war in Afghanistan
has received little coverage. As in countless militaristic U.S. nation-building fiascos, "mission creep" in
Afghanistan is leading to another foreign policy disaster.

Although the escalation in Afghanistan has not been announced publicly, a reliable source with connections
at the Pentagon tells me that the Joint Staff has been ordered to plan for a surge in that country, and the
DoD Comptroller has been asked to budget the money for it.

As in Iraq, however, the escalation just promises to sink the United States deeper into the nation-building morass.

The Republicans are so crazy and so partisan, they'll never admit Bush has screwed up. No matter how clear
the evidence is, no matter how many soldiers die, no matter how many billions are squandered and no matter
how bad it gets, they stand behind him and tell him he's doing a great job.

I think the Democrats should submit a bill that says the nation has lost confidence in Bush-Cheney and
call for early presidential elections to get us out of this mess.

Of course, that measure would fail, but at least they'd make the point. It would cause people to say,
"It's too bad we're stuck with this death-loving monster for another 22 months," and it would put a
splinter in the shoe of every Republican - and it would hang over Bush's head until he leaves.

...but they never listen to me.
