Excerpt: Our economy shrank in the summer, the strongest
signal yet that a recession may have already begun.
The Commerce Department reported that the gross
domestic product, the broadest measure of economic
health, fell at an annual rate of 0.3 percent
in the July-September period, a significant slowdown.
The spring activity had been boosted by the $168
billion economic stimulus program, but the economy
ran into a wall in the summer as the mass mailings
of stimulus checks ended and consumer confidence
was shaken by the upheavals on global markets.
Consumer spending, which accounts for two-thirds
of the economy, dropped by the largest amount
in 28 years in the third quarter.
Hurry, January 20th - we can't hold out much longer!
Excerpt: I had friends complain that Obama's TV ad Wednesday
night was "dull," but I thought it worked.
Maybe that's because I spent the day getting
ready for MSNBC's "Hardball," where I got to hear
Tom DeLay smear Obama as "a radical, and at the
very best, he is a socialist." They used to call
DeLay "the exterminator," because that was his
business before he became a politician. Watching him
Wednesday, I started thinking, maybe it takes
vermin to know vermin. The Republicans are running
a low-road campaign, but this was real filth
coming from DeLay.
"Now that fiscal 'conservatives' have devastated
this country, it seems that 'liberal' just doesn't pack the epithetic wallop it
once did. Just a few years ago, it was enough to tar a Democrat as a liberal to hurt him
in the polls, but people may be thinking that liberals might not be so bad, considering
that they have turned out to be right about seemingly every policy argument of the past
decade or so..." -- Allan Uthman,
Excerpt: Ever since the infamous Sixties Republicans have
portrayed themselves as hard-headed realists and
Democrats as sentimental idealists; the Daddy
party vs. the Mommy party, all that. Never mind that
their idea of a manly avatar is George W. Bush.
Conservative pundits, talk radio personalities, rightwing
bloggers and faculty lounge lizards alike seemingly
get a testosterone boost out of contrasting their
tough-minded worldliness to feckless liberal
schemes for the salvation of mankind. Today's reality is
almost precisely the opposite. Contemporary Republicanism
has sacrificed the reasoned self-interest
of the American people to abstract ideology at
every turn. It's bitterly amusing watching GOP culture
heroes forced to confront their failures as the
party's day of reckoning approaches.
I think all Gene Lyons columns should be read in their entirety.
Excerpt: Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call
center in Indiana walked off the job rather than
read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking
Barack Obama, according to two workers
at the center and one of their parents.
Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County,
Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called
her from her job at the center, upset that she
had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being
"dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals,"
and for voting against "protecting children from danger."
Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her
co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left
the call center after supervisors told them that
they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says.
The call center is called Americall, and it's
located in Hobart, IN.
Damn, giving up a job in Bush's train-wreck economy takes courage.
Excerpt: Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Sen. McCain's senior policy
adviser, said Sunday that the campaign has
always planned to fund the tax credits, in part,
with savings from Medicare and Medicaid.
Those government health-care programs serve seniors,
poor families and the disabled.
Medicare spending for the fiscal year ended Sept.

Obama has a chance in hell of winning the election?"
I do. I've got $1,000 that says so too.

I'm no expert on Nazi history, but I know more

That National Socialist Party line the right
likes to toss out is BS.
True, Hitler ran as a socialist, but that was
just like Bush running as a compassionate conservative.
The economy in Germany after WWI was terrible.
The socialist party offered real promise,
and Adolph rode it into power, but once there,
all pretenses were off.
He needed the support of the banks and the rich
in order to consolidate his power,
like Bush, so Hitler quickly assured them that
all that socialist crap was just talk.
Hitler ordered the assassination of his fellow
socialists to get them out of the way
and created his own special security force, the
SS, kind of like Blackwater.
The BFEE rise to power has so many parallels with
the rise of the Nazis that it's frightening.
Such talk though, quickly gets derided when its
pointed out that Bush hasn't built any ovens.
That's beside the point, Hitler didn't start
building any ovens either until well into his reign.

Excerpt: In a co-written
op-ed piece by Republican State Senators Ken Seliger and Robert
published July 12 at LubbockOnline.com, the pair
writes of Pickens strong-arming his way to
a land and water grab, a move they dub unequivocally
negative for West Texans.
"The brand-new Roberts County Fresh Water Supply
District No. 1, acting as an alter ego of
T. Boone Pickens and Mesa Power Pampa, LLC, has
launched a private venture that may force landowners in 11 counties to submit
to the power of eminent domain so they can
pump water from the shrinking Ogallala Aquifer
and sell wind-generated electricity. This new
governmental entity is composed of only five
people, all employees or associates of Pickens."
Bush proved that to steal hundreds of billions of dollars, you do it
with government help and
you make it illegal for anyone to oppose you and then you rape and
steal until you get tired.
Congrats to Philly.
They haven't had many reasons to celebrate.

What ever happened to the People of America?
What ever happened to those times and shouldn't
we go back to those values? I think so. I think
it's time for America change from what we have
become to what we should be.
"I wonder if you think it's dangerous at all
for people to say a vote for Barack Obama is a vote against Israel. If the polls are
right and he wins and people start thinking this means the death of Israel. Are you worried
what people might do if they actually believed that? I want to make this 100% perfectly clear.
Obama has said repeatedly that Israel will always be a friend to the United States no matter
what happens once he becomes President, his words."

Subject: Led Zeppelin: Who needs
Led Zeppelin without Plant, no matter what your
opinion of him for not wanting to reunite,
AND without Bonham is NOT Led Zeppelin.
It's the Jimmy Page Band, with special guest
John Paul Jones on bass and keys.
Harrison played guitar for John Lennon.
It was not The Beatles. And Brian May and Roger Taylor
need to stop calling themselves "Queen".
I love what they do and they sound great doing it,
but without Deacon or Mercury they are NOT Queen.
Page and Jones seem driven by brand/name recognition.
Just let it go, man. I don't want to see
a "Led Zeppelin" CD knowing full well it's not really Led Zeppelin.
Now go put on Led Zep III. Listen to "Friends",
"Celebration Day" and "Since I've Been Loving You"
and convince yourself that whatEVER The Page-Jones
Project does, it will NOT be THAT!
Dave in Joisey
Dave - like I give a fuck what name is on the ticket?
I just want to see Mr Excitement get lost in a song live and he can't
do that because
the old, tired geezer doesn't feel up to the challenge so Page is going
to find someone
younger, someone who wants to rock and tear music a new dimension.
Plant is too old to be in Led Zeppelin.
He's gone accoustic and he's gone country.
He's lost the magic - the cosmic energy - and he gave up.
He's the white Darius Rucker. (Not a compliment)
Plant wants to sing "Going to California" with Allison Crouse and he
rearrange those "terrible" Zeppelin songs without all those fancy guitar
and you're worried about who's using the name?
'Percy' wants to be the guy who used to be in Zeppelin - that's OK,
but he needs to get out of the way so God can move the Earth again.
