I have a slightly different take on it - I think Obama is now calling their bluff and saying
"OK, Repubs, you want to be obstructionist?
Now you have to do it on television and explain
to the entire nation your rationale. Ok, Dems,
you want to be wimps? Do it on television for
everyone to see. Or, get off your asses, step
up to the plate and get something DONE."
I think it's a good way of playing chicken, rather
than a genuine bipartisan effort.
It LOOKS genuinely bipartisan, which is the
important thing.
