"I understand, judge, I am the only one standing between you and lunch, so I'll try to make this painless."
     -  Joe Biden, being cutesy with Alito instead of doing his damn job,  Link

Joe can't do his damn job.
When a camera's on him, he does his Carrottop impression and starts with the stupid jokes.
Lots of jokes, cute stories about his kids - Biden thinks our future is something to joke about.
Biden and Leahy (D-Rubberstamp) need to retire.

Did you hear Leahy on CNN?
"Alito might be a racist, woman-hating prick, but that's not enough to disqualify him."

 Gee Pat, what is?
Does he have to commit a violent felony on camera, live?

Death of an American Hero
by Robert Parry   as seen on consortiumnews.com

      Hugh Thompson

 Link      Now with working Link

At one of America's darkest moments -- the My Lai massacre of Vietnamese civilians in 1968 -- an American
helicopter pilot named Hugh Thompson risked his life and his reputation to do the right thing, placing himself and
his helicopter door-gunner between rampaging U.S. soldiers and fleeing Vietnamese civilians. Thompson's death
last week at the age of 62 stirs timely thoughts about the meaning of true heroism and the danger of false hero-worship.

Thompson ordered his helicopter door gunner, Lawrence Colburn, to shoot the Americans if they tried to
harm the Vietnamese. After a tense confrontation, the soldiers backed off.

For siding with Vietnamese civilians over his American comrades, Thompson was treated like a pariah.
He was shunned by fellow soldiers, received death threats for reporting the war crime, and later was
denounced by one congressman as the only American who should be punished for My Lai.

The Swift Boat Liars said there were no atrocities in Vietnam.
John Kerry let them get away with it - so Bush's murder spree continued.
Too bad Kerry didn't have Hugh Thompson's courage in 2004.

A stand-up shot of Chinaco to a real American hero - Hugh Thompson.

Hillary seeks inquiry into Armor-gate
Pentagon: 80 percent died because Bush sent crappy body armor

Clinton 44 urged Congress Monday to re-examine the Pentagon's standards for soldiers' body armor in Iraq,
after a study found most wounds to Marines would have been prevented or minimized with more protection.

The results of the study were disclosed last week. It examined 93 fatal wounds to Marines from the 3/03 thru 6/05.
Most of those injuries might have been prevented or minimized if they had been wearing improved body armor.

"With U.S. troops risking their lives daily in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, we owe it to them to make sure
they have the best equipment possible," Clinton wrote to committee chairman John Warner.

Ney connected to Vote Fraud
 Soon-to-be-indicted crook gets double caught

The Dots Connect Between Abramoff, Ohio 2004 Election Smokescreen and Ney's Former Staffer
Revealed to be on Diebold's Payroll While Working for White House Law Firm
All the While as HAVA -- America's 'Election Reform' Bill -- is Used for Political Payoff in the Bargain...

There's been a great deal of speculation over the last several days, particularly in the light of Jack Abramoff's
recent guilty pleas, concerning the connection of Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH) to Election Fraud in Ohio,
and indeed, vis a vis his stewardship and authoring of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) back in 2001 and 2002.
The heavy-handed tactics he has taken since then in order to keep the flawed act from being changed in any way
over the years, along with the great lengths he's gone to in order to keep the nation's eyes off of massive electile
dysfunction in Ohio and elsewhere since 2004 may finally soon get the attention it all properly deserves.

Subject: Presidential Material

Hi Bart

If nothing else, I long for the day when we can again have a genuine statesman in the White House.
You know....a president who can speak well...speak extemporaneously...who can think on his feet
and looks like he/she has at least some nobility in him/her. I long for a president who will tell us the truth,
no matter how unseemly it may be. I long for a president who knows what he is doing and is doing it
even while he's vacationing. We've had presidents like that in years past...Oh that we could again.

She's the best ever - male or female.
She's the Jimmy Page of lefty talk radio.

Subject: Hillary-Clark ticket

Not sure about Hillary for president, but if she runs with Clark I'm sure it would be a disaster.
I'll have to admit that Clark did better than I expected during this last New Year's Eve telecast…
but I'm don't think I could support the ticket if Dick was the VP candidate.

Keep swingin', friend!

Poll: Americans Want Warrants for Spying
Der Monkey is on the wrong side of everything

A majority of Americans want Bush to get court approval before eavesdropping on Americans,
even if those calls might involve suspected terrorists, an AP-Ipsos poll shows.

Over the past three weeks, Bush and top aides have defended his illegal spying program they secretly
launched shortly after 9-11, as a "vital tool" to protect the nation from al-Qaida and its affiliates.

Yet 56 percent of respondents said the government should be required to first get a court warrant to
eavesdrop on the calls and e-mails when those communications are believed to be tied to terrorism.

But it begins with the Alito filibuster.
We can't trust Bush.
He's stacking the court with cronies because his acts are illegal and he knows it.

Subject: now wait a f-ing minute

Fist off, I have never criticized Hillary for anything that didn't come out of her own mouth.
I never once brought up the Mena Airport, Vince Foster or any of that monkey crap.
I criticized her for voting in favor of the BANKRUPTCY BILL, for voting in favor of the
USA PATRIOT ACT, for voting for the war in IRAQ!  You know, anti-Democratic Party crap like that.

And now, I guess you believe that every candidate who is not a member of the Clinton family is Ralf Nader.
Buddy, you're the one who needs straightening out.

Jimmy the Legal Intern

Dude, when I speak of the crazy lefties, I'm not always talking about you :)

Subject: Hillary supporter

Mr Bart,

Maybe this is just the Wild Turkey talking but I could swear that I clearly remember the Clintons
curbstomping ever despicable republican scumbag who tried to get in the way of Bill or Hillary winning
an election. Isn't that alone enough to get anyone who wants to see an end to the Bush cartel just a little excited?

Bill still gets mobbed by crowds of people all over the world. The guy is a like a rockstar. Hillary is damned smart
and tough enough that she could probably break a man's spine just by concentrating really hard and cracking her knuckles.
Who the hell wouldn't want these people to be calling the shots against Jeb or whichever crazy republican bastard runs in 2008?

If you had to bet the house on a beauty pageant who would you rather have, the pretty enough girl who's willing to shank
a few of the other contestants in the dressing room if that's what it takes to win or the girl who might answer a few of the
questions a little more to your liking but is way too concerned with being polite enough to get Miss Congenialty and doesn't
have a snowball's chance of winning anyway because a blind man would ruin his hands if he tried to read her face?

For me, I'm all about cracking some peroxide dyed heads.
Can we maybe send out our best fighters this time and, I don't know, possibly win one?

Dave in Ohio

Dave, from your lips to...
Oh, I forgot - there is no God.

Unpatriotic Spying

The decision  by the Bush Administration to go after the New York Times for exposing a portion of their
spying- the unauthorized NSA spying on calls to Afghanistan- sets up the central struggle for America's soul.
Truthfully, no one is much alarmed by monitoring connections with Afghanistan or scanning US mosques for
radiation; both have a legitimate national security justification. But the FBI is spying on 30,000 people a year
- according to the Washington Post, permitted by warrantless so-called national security letters (NSLs) under
Section 505 of the Patriot Act, and now it turns out the Pentagon, CIA, and NSA have all also been engaged
in illegitimate and unjustified spying on Americans, including harmless peace groups and all US-foreign e-mail.
In October, Bush expanded access to those files by "state, local and tribal" governments and  "appropriate
private sector entities", whereas John Ashcroft had canceled the 6 month destruction of the records of innocents
- now they are kept forever.  The Pentagon, especially, appears unable to distinguish between legitimate protest
and possible threat. As warriors, they are trained to attack preemptively, which is why there are so many
prohibitions against the military operating inside America.

It's either rumored or proven that Ashcroft left because he refused to OK Bush's breaking of the law.
Was Johnny Fuzznuts the most decent man in the Bush maladministration?

Subject: Wes Clark

Wes Clark is the only potential 2008 Democratic candidate that has a "presidential" presence about him
and the "smarts" and "know-how" to go along with it. All the other potential Democratic candidates strike me
as having to undergo "on the job" training and we've seen the evidence of that during the last five years.

This country needs to feel "SECURE" again and the only one that can make us feel that way is General Clark.
There is no question that if any horrific event or catastrophe were to hit this country under his watch, he'd know
exactly how to react and what to do. How much better we could all sleep at night knowing our country was in his hands.

I'll support him in whatever he decides to do.....just as long as he has a  role and a voice in the Democratic 2008 victory!!

Irene in Rockville, MD

They way I remember it, the current horse race shows Hillary at 43%,
Kerry at 14, Edwards at 13 and Clark at 10 or 9.

Kerry is woefully damaged goods, and unfairly, so is Edwards.
The Clinton-Clark team is a match made in Victoryville.

Many of us dont like Hillary because we dont think she'd make the best PRESIDENT
even if she is the best candidate (and Im not sure about that).

I held my nose and supported Kerry, with my money, my time, and my vote.  And he sucked balls.
I wont do it again.  So, yeah, Im willing to "throw away my vote" if Hillary gets the nod.

Because Im D-O-N-E settling for the candidate that the DLC (and the media) chooses for me.

Would I rather have four more years of BushCo if it means voting with my soul and dignity intact?
Damn straight.

Questionable skeleton??????
The man was guilty of nothing less than negligent homicide, and leaving the scene
of a fatal accident and spent not one minute in jail. Now that's justice in Massachusetts.

In the political game, we call that a "gratuitous assumption."
As a rightie, I can see how you'd want that to be true, but there's no way to know.

What's far more certain is that Pickles Bush killed her fiance with her car.
Do you think she did any time?

Any senator who cannot even remember how to pronounce the name of a Supreme Court
Justice nominee should hang up his dunce cap. Senility seems to be acceptable in the senate.
At least our old ex KKK senator is long gone.

Ken the right-winger

Dude, your position is illogical and self-defeating.
Next time your hero Bush pinches a verbal loaf, that's proof that he's mentally deficient?

And as far as KKK senators go, Robert Byrd might've talked the talk, but Strom raped the black
Thurmond family maid. In 1922, she was -f-ing property of the Thurmond family, so Strom raped her.

Plus - Robert Byrd - at least he's an EX-Klansman.

Bart, you wrote:

Bart, no one disagrees that this is true.  Really, your logic is sound here.
It's when you come off acting like Hillary is some liberal that you lose credibility.
She is a centrist, at best, as is her husband.  Liberals tolerated this centrist crap once.
Look where that got us.

Chris from Boca

Yeah, it got us eight years of peace and prosperity.
Once we lost it, we got war, murder, terrorism and the most crooked president in history.

I prefer the Clinton years - the best years America ever had.
I'd like some more of that.

I think you're angry at Clinton (and me) for figuring out the key to winning:
You avoid the far, far left and middle class America will elect you.
That's not the way we want it to be, but that's the way it is,
which means you may also be angry with logic - that's not good..

Gov Blanco faces recall petition
Just like in CA, they don't blame the BFEE for the errors

A Bush-loving Republican filed documents Tuesday launching a drive to oust Gov. Kathleen Blanco,
who was harshly criticized by Bush apologists because Bush waited five long days to send help
to her devastated state after Katrina and Rita.

Kat Landry, who filed a recall petition with state elections officials, said Louisiana needs new leadership
to recover from Bush's incredible lack of humanity for people of color.

Subject: Hillary

I was born and raised in New York, so I maintain an interest in the politics down there.
I suggest you invite your New York readers to weigh in with their assessment of her as their Senator.
I think New Yorkers are in the best position to evaluate her political skills.

Last poll I saw had her local approval rating at 67 percent.
I have no doubt she wouldn't get that rating here, which begs the question:
Are most readers of  bartcop.com  left-of-center Democrats?

On July 12, 2004, George Tenet suggested exactly that.... and he got a Medal of Freedom.

the cold war will be back on again, between a free Europe and a totalitarian USA."

The Wiretappers That Couldn't Shoot Straight

The warrantless eavesdropping is more of the same incompetence. Like our physical abuse of detainees
and our denial of their access to due process, this flouting of the law may yet do as much damage to fighting
the war on terrorism as it does to civil liberties. Every defense lawyer representing a terrorism suspect charged
in the four years since Mr. Bush's N.S.A. decree can challenge the legality of the prosecution's evidence.
"The entire criminal process will be brought to a standstill," Mr. Garbus explains, as the government refuses
to give the courts information on national security grounds, inviting the dismissal of entire cases, and judges
"up and down the appellate ladder" issue conflicting rulings.Far from "bringing justice to our enemies,"
as Mr. Bush is fond of saying, he may once again be helping them escape the way he did at Tora Bora."

Subject: Hillary 2008

I don't believe every wild-ass repug theory about Hillary,
but that doesn't alter the fact that a lot of Americans do.
Besides, as we learned from the swift boat smear, it doesn't have to
be true to do damage, and the right will throw everything at her.

The right will throw everything at our nominee, even if he still has shrapnel in his ass
from winning medals for heroism in Vietnam while Bush was drunk and screwing hookers.
They're going to play dirty no matter what, so let's nominate a street fighter!

I like her very much; she's not perfect but I think she has
a sincere desire to use government to make peoples' lives better.

But I fear for our party if she gets the nomination.

Ann, your biggest fear should be that we nominate a non-fighter 3 times in a row.
Nobody hates the BFEE more than Hillary.
On her best day, she hates them more than I do on my worst day.
