Death of an American Hero
by Robert Parry   as seen on consortiumnews.com

      Hugh Thompson

 Link      Now with working Link

 Excerpt:
At one of America's darkest moments -- the My Lai massacre of Vietnamese civilians in 1968 -- an American
helicopter pilot named Hugh Thompson risked his life and his reputation to do the right thing, placing himself and
his helicopter door-gunner between rampaging U.S. soldiers and fleeing Vietnamese civilians. Thompson's death
last week at the age of 62 stirs timely thoughts about the meaning of true heroism and the danger of false hero-worship.

Thompson ordered his helicopter door gunner, Lawrence Colburn, to shoot the Americans if they tried to
harm the Vietnamese. After a tense confrontation, the soldiers backed off.

For siding with Vietnamese civilians over his American comrades, Thompson was treated like a pariah.
He was shunned by fellow soldiers, received death threats for reporting the war crime, and later was
denounced by one congressman as the only American who should be punished for My Lai.

The Swift Boat Liars said there were no atrocities in Vietnam.
John Kerry let them get away with it - so Bush's murder spree continued.
Too bad Kerry didn't have Hugh Thompson's courage in 2004.

A stand-up shot of Chinaco to a real American hero - Hugh Thompson.

Hillary seeks inquiry into Armor-gate
Pentagon: 80 percent died because Bush sent crappy body armor

 Link

 Excerpt:
Clinton 44 urged Congress Monday to re-examine the Pentagon's standards for soldiers' body armor in Iraq,
after a study found most wounds to Marines would have been prevented or minimized with more protection.

The results of the study were disclosed last week. It examined 93 fatal wounds to Marines from the 3/03 thru 6/05.
Most of those injuries might have been prevented or minimized if they had been wearing improved body armor.

"With U.S. troops risking their lives daily in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, we owe it to them to make sure
they have the best equipment possible," Clinton wrote to committee chairman John Warner.

The Dots Connect Between Abramoff, Ohio 2004 Election Smokescreen and Ney's Former Staffer
Revealed to be on Diebold's Payroll While Working for White House Law Firm
All the While as HAVA -- America's 'Election Reform' Bill -- is Used for Political Payoff in the Bargain...

There's been a great deal of speculation over the last several days, particularly in the light of Jack Abramoff's
recent guilty pleas, concerning the connection of Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH) to Election Fraud in Ohio,
and indeed, vis a vis his stewardship and authoring of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) back in 2001 and 2002.
The heavy-handed tactics he has taken since then in order to keep the flawed act from being changed in any way
over the years, along with the great lengths he's gone to in order to keep the nation's eyes off of massive electile
dysfunction in Ohio and elsewhere since 2004 may finally soon get the attention it all properly deserves.

Subject: Presidential Material

Hi Bart

If nothing else, I long for the day when we can again have a genuine statesman in the White House.
You know....a president who can speak well...speak extemporaneously...who can think on his feet
and looks like he/she has at least some nobility in him/her. I long for a president who will tell us the truth,
no matter how unseemly it may be. I long for a president who knows what he is doing and is doing it
even while he's vacationing. We've had presidents like that in years past...Oh that we could again.

Not sure about Hillary for president, but if she runs with Clark I'm sure it would be a disaster.

Poll: Americans Want Warrants for Spying
Der Monkey is on the wrong side of everything

 Link

 Excerpt:
A majority of Americans want Bush to get court approval before eavesdropping on Americans,
even if those calls might involve suspected terrorists, an AP-Ipsos poll shows.

Over the past three weeks, Bush and top aides have defended his illegal spying program they secretly
launched shortly after 9-11, as a "vital tool" to protect the nation from al-Qaida and its affiliates.

Yet 56 percent of respondents said the government should be required to first get a court warrant to
eavesdrop on the calls and e-mails when those communications are believed to be tied to terrorism.

But it begins with the Alito filibuster.
We can't trust Bush.
He's stacking the court with cronies because his acts are illegal and he knows it.

Subject: Hillary supporter

Mr Bart,

Maybe this is just the Wild Turkey talking but I could swear that I clearly remember the Clintons
curbstomping ever despicable republican scumbag who tried to get in the way of Bill or Hillary winning
an election. Isn't that alone enough to get anyone who wants to see an end to the Bush cartel just a little excited?

Bill still gets mobbed by crowds of people all over the world. The guy is a like a rockstar. Hillary is damned smart
and tough enough that she could probably break a man's spine just by concentrating really hard and cracking her knuckles.
Who the hell wouldn't want these people to be calling the shots against Jeb or whichever crazy republican bastard runs in 2008?

If you had to bet the house on a beauty pageant who would you rather have, the pretty enough girl who's willing to shank
a few of the other contestants in the dressing room if that's what it takes to win or the girl who might answer a few of the
questions a little more to your liking but is way too concerned with being polite enough to get Miss Congenialty and doesn't
have a snowball's chance of winning anyway because a blind man would ruin his hands if he tried to read her face?

For me, I'm all about cracking some peroxide dyed heads.
Can we maybe send out our best fighters this time and, I don't know, possibly win one?

Unpatriotic Spying

 Link

 Excerpt:.
The decision  by the Bush Administration to go after the New York Times for exposing a portion of their
spying- the unauthorized NSA spying on calls to Afghanistan- sets up the central struggle for America's soul.
Truthfully, no one is much alarmed by monitoring connections with Afghanistan or scanning US mosques for
radiation; both have a legitimate national security justification. But the FBI is spying on 30,000 people a year
- according to the Washington Post, permitted by warrantless so-called national security letters (NSLs) under
Section 505 of the Patriot Act, and now it turns out the Pentagon, CIA, and NSA have all also been engaged
in illegitimate and unjustified spying on Americans, including harmless peace groups and all US-foreign e-mail.
In October, Bush expanded access to those files by "state, local and tribal" governments and  "appropriate
private sector entities", whereas John Ashcroft had canceled the 6 month destruction of the records of innocents
- now they are kept forever.  The Pentagon, especially, appears unable to distinguish between legitimate protest
and possible threat. As warriors, they are trained to attack preemptively, which is why there are so many
prohibitions against the military operating inside America.

It's either rumored or proven that Ashcroft left because he refused to OK Bush's breaking of the law.
Was Johnny Fuzznuts the most decent man in the Bush maladministration?

Subject: Wes Clark

Wes Clark is the only potential 2008 Democratic candidate that has a "presidential" presence about him
and the "smarts" and "know-how" to go along with it. All the other potential Democratic candidates strike me
as having to undergo "on the job" training and we've seen the evidence of that during the last five years.

This country needs to feel "SECURE" again and the only one that can make us feel that way is General Clark.
There is no question that if any horrific event or catastrophe were to hit this country under his watch, he'd know
exactly how to react and what to do. How much better we could all sleep at night knowing our country was in his hands.

I'll support him in whatever he decides to do.....just as long as he has a  role and a voice in the Democratic 2008 victory!!

Irene in Rockville, MD

They way I remember it, the current horse race shows Hillary at 43%,
Kerry at 14, Edwards at 13 and Clark at 10 or 9.

Kerry is woefully damaged goods, and unfairly, so is Edwards.
The Clinton-Clark team is a match made in Victoryville.

What's far more certain is that Pickles Bush killed her fiance with her car.

She is a centrist, at best, as is her husband.  Liberals tolerated this centrist crap once.

Once we lost it, we got war, murder, terrorism and the most crooked president in history.

I prefer the Clinton years - the best years America ever had.
I'd like some more of that.

I think you're angry at Clinton (and me) for figuring out the key to winning:
You avoid the far, far left and middle class America will elect you.
That's not the way we want it to be, but that's the way it is,
which means you may also be angry with logic - that's not good..

The warrantless eavesdropping is more of the same incompetence. Like our physical abuse of detainees

I don't believe every wild-ass repug theory about Hillary,
but that doesn't alter the fact that a lot of Americans do.
Besides, as we learned from the swift boat smear, it doesn't have to
