Quote of the Day

"It's like trying to track down a bunch of ghosts."
-- Sgt. Chad Wendel, 101st Airborne, on fighting Sunnis,   Link

I'm no military guy, but I know if we had more soldiers there,
we could take ground and hold ground. That would prevent us
from having to take the same ground over and over.  The Sunnis
aren't ghosts, they just seem like ghosts because Bush doesn't
want to win - he wants chaos so he can steal their oil without
 having to account for anything.

Quotes

"The only people who want us in Iraq is Iran and al-Qaeda.   I talked to a top-level commander
and he said China wants us there also. Why? Because we're depleting our resources - our troop
resources and our fiscal resources...The war on terrorism is worldwide. In Iraq, it's a civil war.
We have diverted ourselves away from that war on terrorism."
-- Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), on Face the Whore with Bob Schieffer,  Link

John, if you read  bartcop.com  you would've known years ago that Bush started this war
so he could rob Iraq of their oil.  It was never about terror, it was always about stealing the oil.

America anesthetized
by Alex Sabbeth  as seen on  Consortiumnews.com

 Link

 Excerpt:
The new Zogby poll has drawn attention mostly because it finds that 72 percent believe Bush
should withdraw from Iraq in a year or less and only 23 percent favor Bush's plan to "stay the course."

But the poll also illustrates the power of propaganda.

Shockingly, 85 percent of the troops questioned believe they are fighting in Iraq "to retaliate for 9-11"
- one of the key Iraq War myths built by Bush's frequent juxtaposition of references to Osama and Saddam.

This subliminal message has stuck with the vast majority of U.S. troops even though Bush eventually
acknowledged publicly that there is no evidence linking Saddam to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

In other words, more than eight in 10 of the U.S. soldiers in Iraq think they are there avenging Sept. 11,
even though the U.S. government lacks evidence of the connection.

Shockingly?
Only if you buy into the notion that voters are smart.

Truth is, voters are incredibly stupid and naive, that's why Bart's Law #1 is
"Never tell the truth in a political campaign."

Bush Still Torturing

 Link

 Excerpt:
Detainees in Iraq are still being tortured, receiving electric shocks and beatings with plastic cables,
says Amnesty International. The US military maintained the lie that all detainees were being treated
according to international conventions and Iraqi law.  They said prisoner mistreatment had not ceased
since the revelations in 2004 of abuse by U.S. troops at Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad.

In the new allegations, former detainees asserted that they were beaten with plastic cables, given electric
shocks and made to stand in a flooded room as an electrical current was passed through the water.

Bush is endangering the lives of every American who ventures overseas.
He is clearly drunk with power and insane and he must be stopped.
Let's pray the GOP takes action before it's too late.

Despite the Sixth Amendment's guarantee of public trials, nearly all records are being kept secret

Subject: Religion

I agree with the Governor of South Dakota when he says,
"The true test of a civilization is how well people treat
the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society."

What I don't agree with is that a fetus is a member of society.
The legislature of South Dakota is insincere and is acting out a fetus fetish to make themselves
feel morally superior rather than focusing their scarce resources on child care for working mothers,
education, and medical care for children.

The worst kind of morality is faked morality and I am wholly unimpressed. Religious people who
merely pose as moral to make themselves feel self-important is what drives people away from religion.

Impeach Bush
 It's time to remove him
    by Garrison Keillor

 Link

 Excerpt:
These are troubling times for all of us who love this country, as surely we all do, even the satirists.
You may poke fun at your mother, but if she is belittled by others it burns your bacon. A blowhard
French journalist writes a book about America that is full of arrogant stupidity, and you want to let the
air out of him and mail him home flat.  You hear young people talk about America as if it's all over,
and you trust that this is only them talking tough. And then you read the paper and realize the country
is led by a man who isn't paying attention, and you hope that somebody will poke him. Or put a sign
on his desk that says, "Try Much Harder."

Do we need to impeach him to bring some focus to this man's life?
The man was lost and then he was found and now he's more lost than ever, plus blind.

"This is the first administration that I can remember, including Nixon's, that said

and put them in jail if they don't -- in effect, if they don't reveal their sources."
     -- David Gergen,   Link

David, you had no probelm with impeacxhing Clinton for a girlfriend.
Why not call for impeachment for lies that killed 2300 soldiers?

Could it be that you're a partisan whore who cares more about
his political party than the lives of another 2300 dead soldiers?

In Nixon's time, the GOP had enough pride and self-respect to tell the bastard to stand down.
What happened to your party's pride and self-respect, David?

Subject: "An Arab who acts like Eddie Haskell"

Speaking as a naturalized citizen of Indian descent and as a liberal I have to say that its a difficult situation.
I would say in day to day affairs that it is reasonable to assume that most "brown" people are not terrorists.
But in terms of fighting terrorists, I think its insane not to admit that our enemies are radical muslims and
that we should be directing our efforts towards those types of people.

Thanks to Bush this is nearly impossible.
In late 2001 we knew who the terrorists were (because we recruited them to fight the Soviets) and we
had them cornered.  But then we just stopped!!!  Now we are facing a worldwide movement, and not just "Arabs".
Now our enemies can be arab, south asian, indonesian, african, white (bosnia), or european.

Pls continue to swing the BIG hammer

Subject: Obstacles 2008

I want a strong Democrat in the White House, not the BFEE but that person has to be respected and capable.
Maybe we can all get behind Hillary soon but you know she has baggage too.  Liberal voters can't be sheep.
How do we get a message to the DNC besides witholding campaign contributions?

Keep up the good work.
Ellen

The DNC?  I don't know of any other way to get their attention if not financially.
They may get tired of hearing, "Not another dime until you lazy bastards start fighting back"

As far as Hillary's "baggage," I don't buy it.
Kerry was baggage free and look what they did to him.
Why run Snow White if they're just going to turn her into Typhoid Mary?

I suggest we run someone who won't say,
"I want it, but I don't want it bad enough to fight for it."

That's what we got from Kerry, Gore, Daschle, Cleland etc.

Subject: Scared Democrats

It's probably up to conservative Republicans to get us out of this mess, 'cause there's nary a Dem in sight.
To their credit, the GOP is sort of rethinking things these days. However, the Dems dare not think bad thoughts
of any kind because they fear the electronic mind worms the far right implanted in them when they were asleep,
and they know people like Pat Roberts can still flip a switch at any time and cause them much pain.

R Mann

That's why I don't buy the "they're all the same" argument.
Our side is soooooo afraid to offend Karl Rove while their side is beating our f-ing brains in.

Gee - I'm a strong liberal who never ever thought or said those things about Tillman
- and I don't remember hearing or reading about any other liberal who said or wote such things.

Dorothy

Dorothy, I can't blame you for not reading every issue, but the Tillman story broke on a Saturday.
EVERY e-mail I got that day called him an idiot/coward/steroid-laden asshole.  It was damn sad.
(It's in the back issues, clue probably in the title)

Feeling like you do, I asked the "we hate the military crowd" to appoint a spokesman and we went
into the chat room where I was, apparently, unable to convince those who feel strongly about this.

If Democrats appreciate the sacrifices soldiers make,
they are not writing to  bartcop.com  about it.

Subject: Forcing women to bear the children of their rapist is wrong

The State of South Dakota has passed a law that prohibits all abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest.
What this means is if a woman is raped she is forced by the State to bear the child of the rapist against her will.
And this is touted but South Dakota as "moral"?  I don't think so.

Some of us have a different standard of what is right and wrong and my values say that it is
fundamentally wrong to force the victims of rapists to bear the children of their attacker.

The Wolves of Fate

 Link

 Excerpt:
You may think you are a "NeoCon Insider"-but if you were only brought on board as recently as 2000,
you are most probably not.

No matter how elegant your office space or how impressive your title and rich your paycheck, the chances are that
in this administration you are there either for the same reasons Scooter and Brownie got their jobs or you are there for
something that is, perhaps, even more devious. If, like others, you were astonished to have received your appointment
you should allow the shivers of fear to percolate through your nervous system. It is only reasonable to be nervous.

All administrations must needs fill thousands of appointments but only this administration has done so with such a
devious agenda, laying out the battle ground in advance in curious ways.

G. Gordon Libby fell on his sword because he was self-programmed to do just that; it accorded with his views.
That will not be the case with yourself. The NeoCons doubtless noted what good cover he made.

The conferences the Bush Administration held before this administration was assembled were different than any
administration in the past. Real NeoCon Insiders, such as John Fund, provided the names for appointments, such as
your own. They had unusual criteria for their suggestions, criteria that included if you could arguably be spun as
incompetent when the time came for you to go off the back of the Sleigh. They knew the G. Gordons were thin upon
the ground. You can think of it as an appointment but the reality is very much like being the guestof honor at a
cannibalistic barbecue. In ancient times they always ensured the guest of honor for the ceremony was well fed.
Easy to see why.

Subject: The Stones

The Stones couldn't play?   Pleeeze.

If you are a guitar player, try coping a couple of
Keith Richards licks and than tell me the Stones couldn't play!

Chris Ray

Chris, have you ever heard Keith tell the story of how the "Satisfaction" riff came to him in his sleep?
It's true - he was dreaming that riff and woke up and wrote it down right away so he could be sure
to remember exactly how it went.

I can't play guitar - not even one percent.
But if you gave me a guitar and 90 seconds, I could play "Satisfaction" with no problem.

It's three notes.
How long could it take a Okie with an IQ of 64 to learn three notes?

Seriously, in the history of mankind, did even one kid ever say,
"I want to grow up and be a guitar player like Keith Richards?"

Stop Censoring Impeachment Polls
The whore press continues to protect Der Monkey

 Link

 Excerpt:
Seven months have passed since we began politely asking Corporate Media pollsters to include
impeachment questions in their polls. Despite our efforts, every media pollster has refused to include
an impeachment question (unless we paid for it). The few that have bothered to reply to our letters
(like Richard Morin of the Pentagon Post) have basically told us to go "Cheney" ourselves. In the past
two weeks, most of these pollsters have released new data. And every single poll shows a steep drop
in Bush's approval rating. It's time to tell the media pollsters to stop censoring the truth and to include
an impeachment question in every poll from now until Bush is impeached - and imprisoned.

Bart, I saw David Letterman the other day

He's still doing very unfunny Clinton/Monica jokes.

Paul

Paul, Dave is super-lazy.

His audience is mostly tourists who really want an excuse to laugh, and Dave knows that
any joke with "desk" or "Monica" or "blow" or "suck" or "cow" a hundred other buzz words
can be turned into a Clinton joke - so he lazily takes the low-hanging fruit.

...but what makes him differenmt from Leno is it is possible for him to get a shot off at Bush.
Leno has been kissing Nazi ass since loooooooooooooong before 9-11.

Like Boondocks, maybe Dave needs a break to get his sense of humor back.

Tillman's Parents Deserve the Truth

 Link

 Excerpt:
The Tillmans are justifiably skeptical that the probe will reveal anything new. As Patrick Sr. said,
"I think it's another step. But if you send investigators to reinvestigate an investigation that was falsified in the
first place, what do you think you're going to get?" He's right, of course, but the fact that the Army is launching
this criminal probe only demonstrates how effective the Tillmans have been in challenging the Pentagon, while
being armed with nothing but their outrage. As Col. Joseph Curtin, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon said,
"We want to do the right thing for the family. We owe it to the family. We owe them the truth." It's an amazing
admission. With over 2,300 U.S. troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis killed for a presidential administration's
ambitions and lies, now one family is at last owed "the truth." It's a start, I suppose.

I read that he was killed while driving a Humvee.

Subject: Sopranos

Hey Bart, I am a Sopranos junkie and I am looking forward to this season, plus the extra 8 episode season.
I hope it is worth the 16 month hiatus. I don't think AJ would ever tangle in the "business".
I mean he cried at the sight of a bear last year.

Dude, if I ever get that close to a bear, first I'm going to cry,
then I'm going to wet myself while mumbling "Mama,"
then I'm going to ask God to protect me.

Meadow on the other hand I see being a little more "involved".
This season should be great.
I am looking forward to the Furio subplot along with how Chris deals with the loss of Adriana.

People getting whacked this year for sure.... in my opinion:

Paulie Walnuts
Vito Spatafore
Bobby Bacala
Phil Leotardo

Only one week to go....
-Erol

Phil should go first.
I think Bobby is safe.
Tony should do Paulie with his bare hands to pay him back for the painting.

Vito is gay - lots of ways to make that hit interesting...but I read that the actor who
plays Furio isn't coming back.  Maybe Tony will whack him off-camera.

I was in Haglanyah during elections with the mightiest military on Earth and I watched... people voted.
We ran a shuttle service from one part of the town to the voting facility in fact and I watched the people
go by the bus load to vote. My buddies were in Ramadi...the people voted there too.
Dont know how old this is since there's no date on this excerpt but I just wanted you to know
