The '06 Stakes Just Got Raised

The narrow margin of the Court's rebuke to Bush on military tribunals highlights the stakes on the
table for the November 2006 congressional elections - nothing short of the survival of a meaningful
constitutional system in the United States.

The majority opinion, which stopped Bush from proceeding with a kangaroo court that stripped Gitmo detainees
of basic legal protections and mocked the Geneva Conventions, carried a profound secondary message - that the
Court was not prepared to endorse Bush's vision of his "war powers" as limitless and beyond challenge.

But it was equally noteworthy that only five of the nine justices believed that the rule of law and constitutional limits
on Bush's powers should prevail. Four justices -  Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts - have made clear that
they are prepared to rubber-stamp any judgment that Bush makes.

So, we're one judge short of losing democracy in America.
It's enough to make you want to vote in November.

Israel's Big Gamble


Israel last night threatened to assassinate Palestinian Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh
if Hamas militants did not release a captured Israeli soldier unharmed.

The unprecedented warning was delivered to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
in a letter as Israel debated a deal offered by Hamas to free Corporal Gilad Shalit.
It came as Israeli military officials readied a second invasion force for a huge offensive into Gaza.

Hamas's Gaza-based political leaders, including Mr Haniyeh, had already gone into hiding.
But last night's direct threat to kill Mr Haniyeh, a democratically elected head of state, sharply raised the stakes.

You know me - I don't get into this mess, but as one who plays poker,
that's the kind of bet that could easily backfire.

It's a hueueueuge gamble because if that soldier dies, Israel has already committed to killing the PM.
If they don't, they look weak when they can't afford to look weak.
And the assassination of the Palastinian PM wouldn't be a good thing for Der Monkey's quagmire.
I understand the value of getting your man back, but Israel's bet is hueueueueueueuge.

In the near future, when someone asks, "How did things get so out of control?"
they might look at this incident the opposite way of how we look at the Bay of Pigs.

The world could use a little good luck.

GOP in N.Y. turn on each other


The political soap opera in New York revolves around the Republicans.

Accusations of bigamy and child abuse, illegitimate children and a tabloid description of one candidate
curled in the fetal position after downing half a pint of ice cream sound like top-rated, daytime fiction.

Instead, it's the GOP Senate primary between a former Yonkers mayor, John Spencer,
and a Reagan-era Pentagon official, Kathleen Troia "KT" McFarland.


Subject: Ontop of 9/11 victims, bullhorn in hand, he lied.

He could not have created a better photo op. Or maybe he did.

There he was, ontop the ruble of the Twin Towers, Bullhorn in hand.
He was literally standing on the bodies of the 9/11 victims.

and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!"

Later, he said that Osam Bin Laden is not important anymore.
This shows his lying character.
The dead are just props for him, nothing more.

How is this news to anybody?

I'm so old, I remember when you used to say, "We don't trust big government,"
but now that Your Monkey is in charge, the overbearing big government can be trusted?

Bush has done nothing but fuck up and kill people since he's been in office.
He stole power and he has abused every thing he's touched.


American gullibility


Many Americans have turned a blind eye to the administration's illegal and unconstitutional spying
on the grounds that, as they themselves are doing nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear.

If this is the case, why did our Founding Fathers bother to write the Constitution? If the executive branch
can be trusted not to abuse power, why did Congress pass legislation establishing a panel of federal judges
(ignored by the Bush administration) to oversee surveillance? If President Bush can decide that he can ignore
statutory law, how does he differ from a dictator? If Bush can determine law, what is the role of Congress
and the courts? If "national security" is a justification for elevating the power of the executive, where is his
incentive to find peaceful solutions?

The bigger and badder the boogeyman is, the more Bush's arms dealer allies get paid to "protect" us.
When the Soviet Union fell, they lost their reason for spending $400 billion a year on war toys.
Now we're in a never-ending war not with Iraq, but with an idea that can't be killed.


Subject: religious insanity

Bart, I get your point.
I believe "organized religion" was necessary during the millennia before the industrial revolution.
It explained all of  the whys & hows of the unexplainable for people.

Sure - they can't explain why the sun came up,
so they said, "The sun god lifted it with his damn hands."

On the other side of  the coin, there are still many things that science cannot explain.
And who's to say God isn't responsible for science by the way?

That's a tough one - who's to say Ol' Bart didn't create the world?
Maybe being a subscriber is the key to eternal salvation?
The fact that I don't claim that proves I'm better then them.

People who come to Vegas the weekend of Sept 16 will have a good time.

You/we are up against thousands of years of organized religion. I  think organized religion
has lost it's usefulness for many people in  modern times including myself.

"God" is a tool that separates the scared, the sick and the old from their money.

Personally, I am spiritual but don't subscribe to an organized religion.
Basically, my view of God isn't as a separate thing but that God is in all of us and everything.

But bottom line, we must stop the religiously insane from running the world.



Team Bush to 'Floridize' Mexico Election

The 19 hijackers came from the Persian Gulf, so you'd think the "Intelligence Collection"
would be aimed at getting info on the guys in the Gulf.

No so. When we received the document, we obtained as well its classified appendix. The target nations
for "foreign counterterrorism investigation" weren't near the Persian Gulf. Every one was in Latin America
- Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico and a handful of others.

All the target nations had one thing in common besides a lack of terrorists: each had a left-leaning
presidential candidate or a left-leaning president in office.

Open letter to Senate Democrats

The Democrats have to be much more aggressive. But 'more aggressive' doesn't mean
a quicker withdrawal. It means making your point forcefully, on your own terms, repeatedly.
But they're not doing that.

What I see is Republicans on TV repeating their 'cut and run' charges.
Democrats deny the charge. No, we're not for cutting and running.

He's right, that is sooo lame, but it's typical for the gelding tutus who speak for the majority.
When they say, "The Democrats stand for this," you reply with, "No, we stand for that."
In this case, this is "fewer dead soldiers."
Who's going to stand up for more dead soldiers?

The president wants to stay in Iraq for at least three more years. It's not that he won't set a date to withdraw.
He doesn't even have a plan that gets to the point where the US could end the occupation. In practice he wants
to stay in Iraq forever. What Repubicans are voting for is More of the Same, More of the Same failed policy.


Was it Payback?


Five U.S. Army soldiers are being investigated for allegedly raping a young woman, then killing her
and three members of her family in Iraq, a U.S. military official told The Associated Press on Friday.

Two soldiers from the same regiment were slain this month
when they were kidnapped at a checkpoint near Youssifiyah.

Subject: Oswald


I've read the Warren Commission report and Maria Oswald says that she did indeed take that photo.
She never recanted. Personally I think that Oswald did participate in a conspiracy shooting of Kennedy,
that he was in fact a patsy, and didn't realize that the rest had set him up as a patsy until after he was arrested.
The best explanation of that photo is that his handlers told him to have his wife take it and he was just too
stupid to realize why at the time. And yes, some members of the conspiracy could have planted the photo later.

But I've never bought that Oswald acted alone. Assassinations all have one thing in common: the nutty assassin
does the deed in public and grandstands for the crowd and says something like "thus for all tyrants" like Booth did,
while risking capture, in fact almost demanding capture. Oswald may indeed have had that personality, but he hid
and intended to get away. One of the last things he said was that he was the patsy.


Before he turned Nazi whore, Dennis Miller said, "If the Dallas cops allowed the owner of
a local titty bar inside the station when they had Oswald, who were they keeping out?"

It's a good question.
I don't believe it was a coincidence that Ruby was dying.

Bushies will libel any foe

The President's supporters will say anything. They will question the patriotism of those who disagree with
"staying the course." They will insinuate cowardice on the part of those who would "cut and run."  They will
denigrate the records of decorated veterans.

Then the White House will leak the optimistic plan to start withdrawing troops, which would proceed
according to the same timetable proposed by those weak and pusillanimous Democrats.

[Bush] will spend a trillion dollars and squander thousands of American lives, tens of thousands of Iraqi lives,
and the prestige of the United States. There is only one thing they won't do. They will not speak honestly
about the war, because the truth cannot accommodate their crude partisan rhetoric.

Life is good!  Funny thing is, there is a farm just down the road from Simon Bros. that sells corn

Not enough Rape Opportunities


Atrocities are the norm during wartime. So are civilian casualties. In the twentieth century, women and
kids comprised 80% of all wartime deaths. I just wonder, why all the fuss over a mere 24 more, in Iraq?

It's hot over there, and these boys are wandering around a country that looks more like wasted scrubland
than Amarillo. These Marines are toting over a hundred pounds of gear. They're bored. They're irritable.
They need something to kill.

Another problem is not enough rape opportunities in Iraq—that's probably making the soldiers really edgy.
Apparently, the Iraqi women are kept sequestered, and swaddled in all these clothes—they look like they're
wrapped in yards of big sheets. Without even a seductive ankle peeking out. Not easy to strip, and get at,
for rape purposes. Vietnam was a lot easier. All those flimsy little pajama outfits—guys could just rip them off
with one gesture, and mount. And the girls were so tiny, didn't even need to break a sweat while holding them down.
