Gore's Iraq War Warning
  by  Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
As Al Gore steps into the national spotlight because of the Academy Awards and "An Inconvenient Truth,"
it's worth remembering that in fall 2002 Gore sought to warn the American people about another
"inconvenient truth," the folly of invading Iraq.

He did so at a time when it was considered madness or almost treason to object to Bush's war plans.
But Gore was one of a small number of national political figures who took that risk and paid a price,
subjected to widespread ridicule and disdain from the Washington news media.

I am deeply concerned that the course of action that we are presently embarking upon with respect to Iraq
has the potential to seriously damage our ability to win the war against terrorism and to weaken our ability
to lead the world in this new century," Gore said. "To put first things first, I believe that we ought to be
focusing our efforts first and foremost against those who attacked us on Sept. 11.

"Great nations persevere and then prevail. They do not jump from one unfinished task to another.
We should remain focused on the war against terrorism."

Sharpton's Ancestor Was Owned by Thurmond's

 WaHoPo

 Excerpt:
Al Sharpton is descended from a slave owned by relatives of segregationist Strom Thurmond,

a genealogical study released Sunday reported.

"It was probably the most shocking thing of my life," Sharpton said of learning the findings, which were
requested and published Sunday by the New York Daily News. He called a news conference to respond
publicly to the report. "I couldn't describe to you the emotions I have had . . . everything from anger to
outrage to reflection to some pride and glory."

Arianna on Gore
This is what she said about our front runner in 2000  dailyhowler.com

"Gore's entire career has been laden with untruths - all demonstrating a pattern
of serial abuse of language, truth and reality.  He invented the Internet,
discovered Love Canal and was the inspiration for "Love Story."

Good God, that's awful! "Gore's entire career has been laden with untruths."
Back then, Gore was the world's Biggest Liar. Today, Arianna keeps busy by kissing Gore's ass
- and she now says that it's really the Clintons! The Clintons are really the world's Biggest Liars!
As always, Arianna is there.

We say this to note an obvious point - yesterday was "Revenge of the 90's." Suddenly, thanks to
Geffen and Dowd, that decade's top story-lines were back - and Arianna ran to affirm them.
   -- Bob Somerby, Daily Howler

Do you trust Arianna?

She's spewing the same lies about our front runner today.
Are you going to let her decide your vote?

"Terrorist" is big GOP donor

 bostonherald.com

 Excerpt:
A New York man accused of trying to help terrorists in Afghanistan has donated some $15,000 to
the House Republicans' campaign committee over three years.   Abdul Alishtari pleaded not guilty
Friday in  District Court in Manhattan to charges that include terrorism financing, material support
of terrorism and money laundering.

From April 2002 until August 2004, the man also known as "Michael Mixon" gave donations ranging
from $500 to $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee.   The NRCC did not
return a phone message seeking comment Tuesday about whether it would return the donations.

I guess the American whore media didn't have time to mention that on the nightly news.

Subject: Wrong About Jack Murtha

Brit Hume said that John Murtha was out of touch and senile.

Well, if we'd listened to the out-of-touch Murtha in November of '05, our troops would've been home
by early May of '06. Since the end of April last year, 751 of our troops have been killed. But since Bush
and Cheney completely blew off Murtha, those 751 men and women died, we've poured another
$100,000,000,000 into the war with another hundred billion about to get pitched into the black hole of Iraq,
sectarian warfare is getting fiercer and 21,500 additional troops have been thrown into the breach like
sandbags into an already-flooded levee.

Plus, we're about to invade Iran on ginned-up intelligence that purports to prove that they're giving aid
and comfort to our allies in Iraq, the Shiites.

Thanks for your work against the nuclear arms race during the Cold War. Some do talking points, others
discuss nuclear throw weight with world leaders. Thanks for helping to make the world safe from nuclear extermination.

Thanks for the vision to see how new technology could be put in the service of humanity. There has never been
a political leader in the history of America who was even close to you, as you envisioned the potential for good
of the Internet.

Thanks for having the experience, courage and integrity to be one of the few national leaders to oppose
the Iraq War when almost all others were bending to the winds of war in 2002.

Thanks for having the clarity to give a resounding defense of the Bill of Rights at Constitution Hall,

Thanks for speaking against all forms of torture, while the timid were taking polls and consulting focus groups.

Subject: Still no link to substantiate your CIA-WMD-Guarantee?

Bart, you've got a lot riding on your claim that the CIA guaranteed Congress that Saddam had WMDs.

Actually, that's an opinion.
I wasn't at that meeting and I'm not sure it's even on the record..

On the basis of this guarantee, (Easy on the guarantee, please) you malign all those who voted
against the Iraq Attack Resolution as irresponsible reckless gamblers -- including two of the most
well-informed members in Congress at the time: Graham and Pelosi.

I don't think thst's true, either.
Since we can't get anybody to go on the record with the reasons why they voted for,
I suggested we ask those who voted against to state their reasons.

In general, if someone who's in a position to know warns that a deadly threat is 45 minutes away,
I think it's folly to ignore that warning when a hundred million lives are at stake.
Surely you don't disagree with that statement.

BTW, why didn't Graham filibuster the bill is he was so sure?
Why didn't Pelosi call for a filibuster of she was so sure?

Knowing for sure and doing nothing is worse
than anything you've accused Clinton of.

They were the ranking Democrats on the Intelligence Committees.  They both voted against the war --
along with the majority of the Democrats in Congress!  According to you, they were wrong and the
"yes" voters were right!?  Why?  Because of the WMD-Guarantee, of course.
 <much snippage>
 Neal M

If I had a staff or more time or a fact-checker I could be more clear, but I believe the senators are not
allowedto speak about that secret CIA briefing and I'm more certain that it's a crime for members of
the Intel Committees to talk about what they know.  For instance, some senators knew about Bush's
secret wire tapping for a year or two, but couldn't speak up without fear of being arrested.

I'm guessing you dislike our front-runner very, very much and are looking for reasons
why we should consider other candidates, which is certainly your right.

But maybe some of your vitriol should go towards a system that refuses to let our elected leaders
from speaking the plain truth, the truth that we're in-the-dark arguing about right now.

Since 9-11, everything (including Bush's crimes) must remain secret or Osama wins.
Maybe someday we'll get some answers so we can stop arguing about it.

One thing's for sure - we can't go the next 22 months arguing about the same old stuff.

Subject: Her smoking gun

Bart, I suggest that you abandon the idea of defending Hilary's poor decision and
concentrate on defending her opposition to the BFEE where you can find it.

Synopsis Argument; Hillary was on the Senate Intelligence Committee and (we) don't know
what the CIA was telling her/them in regards to potential Iraqi threat - i.e. She had no choice.

Rebuttal Argument; The CHAIR of that committee, heard the same B.S. and voiced
opposition AND voted against giving the BFEE absolute power. i.e. she had this choice.

link: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/1013-04.html

Matt

Matt, why didn't the chair filibuster that vote and stop it?

I scanned that column quickly and did not see a "smoking gun."

Are you saying that if two people look at the same evidence and draw different conclusions
then that's proof  that Senator Clinton was "lying" because everyone knows "BS" when they see it?
You have assigned malice to her decision and there's certainly no smoking gun for that.

I mentioned this in a recent radio show:

When a pro-lifer screams, "Baby killer" at a Clinton, they need to remember that Barbara Bush,
the Bush twins, Pickles Bush, Nancy Reagan and millions more Republicans are "baby killers."

So when one screams, "She just loves war," you have to remember that Edwards voted for it,
as did Kerry and a whole lot of "good" Democrats and remember that Obama had no vote to cast.

Maybe one way off of this merry-go-round is to only print letters from people who state who
their candidate is in 2008.  If your candidate is "perfect," we'll all vote for him or her.

But it doesn't seem fair to attack our front runner for failing to reach perfection unless your
candidate has reached that certainly impossible goal.  Wouldn't we all agree that's fair?

Last thing - Joe Klein at TIME Whore Magazine says She won't outright apologize for her vote
(even tho she already has, in a fashion) because the GOP smear machine is ready to paint her
as "another Kerry-type flip-flopper" if she does, which America's whore media will echo,
repeat, expound upon and magnify to no end like they did Gore's "lies" and Kerry's "flip flops."

Then all the GOP has to do is say, "With America in Al Qaeda's sights, can this country
really afford another Kerry-type flip-flopper as Commander-in Chief?"

US generals 'will quit'
if Bush orders an attack on Iran?
   by Brent Budowsky

 makethemaccountable.com

 Excerpt:
Stories are now circulating suggesting that a number of U.S. Generals intend on resigning in protest
if the United States launches an attack against Iran ("US generals 'will quit' if Bush orders Iran attack",
The Times, U.K., February 25, 2007).

Is it true that senior American military leaders...will resign if there is an attack against Iran?

They should because they remained silent as Bush got 3150 soldiers killed so far.
Coddling a crazy predator president is not their job.

Subject: Hillary for Dummies

Hi Bart,  Senator Clinton enabled an unnecessary and immoral military action against Iraq
by issuing a blank check from the US Treasury to a third-generation war profiteer and known liar.
This was unforgivably poor judgment on her part, and disqualifies her from further consideration.
It's that simple.

Pelosi '07
Gore/Pelosi '08
Mike in Carolina

Mike, I printed that because you named your candidates,
but do you realize how big and wide your brush is?

Evan Bayh had "incredibly bad judgment," and so did Biden.
So did Breaux, Cantwell, Carnahan, Max Cleland, Dascle, Dodd, Dorgan, Edwards,
Feinstein, Harkin, Hollings, Kerry, Landrieu, Lincoln, Mikulski, both Nelsons, Harry Reid,
Rockefeller, Schumer, Torricelli and more.

But it's no fun screaming "Murderer!" at Bayh, Biden, Breaux, Cantwell, Carnahan, Max Cleland,
Daschle, Dodd, Dorgan, Edwards, Feinstein, Harkin, Hollings, Kerry, Landrieu, Lincoln,
Mikulski, both Nelsons, Harry Reid, Rockefeller, Schumer, Torricelli and more because
they're not going to be president.

The Hillary haters have convinced themselves that "everybody knew" it was a sham, but to
believe that, that you have to scream "Murderer!" at more than half the senate Democrats.

The Hillary haters have convinced themselves that "everybody" voted against that resolution
but Hillary, who somehow has thirty votes so she swung the deal for her partner, Bush.

It's only fun to scream "Murderer!" at our front runner - why is that?

The White House and a filibuster-proof senate is ours for the taking.
With that power we could undo a lot of Bush damage - but do we want to win?

Some Democrats would rather fuck that up and have a civil war.

Why I Hate Her
 by Nora Ephron (again)

 wehateclintons.com

 Excerpt:
She issued a statement demanding that Barack Obama (whom Geffen supports) distance himself from
Geffen's remarks. Then she sent her political adviser Howard Wolfson, who seems to have been groomed
by the same people who restyled Chuck Shumer, onto Hardball. The Clinton campaign even suggested that
Obama return the $1.3 million that Geffen, Katzenberg and Spielberg raised at a Hollywood fund-raiser.
I love that suggestion. As far as I can tell, there is not a morsel of food that has crossed the Clintons' lips in
the last twelve years that people have not paid $2300 a person to witness, and the only circumstance I can
recall where they ever returned money was an instance where it could be traced to someone who was a
distant cousin of a distant cousin of a person who might have been (but probably wasn't) a member of Al Queda.

So, the Clintons are guilty of fund-raising?
How dare they!

Subject: Mistakes vs. Lies

Hey Bart,

that Hill didn't make a "MISTAKE" she was lied to.  Just like the rest of us.

What the hell is the matter with these people?
Love and Kisses,

They're Democrats.
Republicans want to win - period.

Democrats will only get behind a "pure" candidate
Democrats would rather "lose with honor" than get behind an inperfect candidate.

BTW, has anybody heard from Arianna?
Has she stated her intention to vote Democrat in 2008?

Can somebody get that question to her?

(I assume the answer is no - how can she vote Democrat
after leading the charge to stop our front runner?)

The Bush Redirection
  by Seymour Hersh

 newyorker.com

 Excerpt:
In the past few months, Bush has significantly shifted his Middle East strategy. The "redirection"  has
brought the United States closer to an open confrontation with Iran and, in parts of the region,
propelled it into a widening sectarian conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

One contradictory aspect of the new strategy is that, in Iraq, most of the insurgent violence directed at
the American military has come from Sunni forces, and not from Shiites. But, from Bush'a perspective,
the most profound - and unintended - strategic consequence of the Iraq war is the empowerment of Iran.

As always, Bush has everything backwards.
Iran backs Bush's Shiia puppet government in Baghdad - so that makes them the enemy.
Because the Idiot has sided with Iran, Bush's partners the Saudis are arming the Sunnis, AND,
according to Randi Rhodes, the Saudis are giving the Sunnis American technology which
they are using to bring down our helicopters.

I heard this myself, but I hate to speak for Randi in case I heard "funny."

So Bush is in bed (again) with Iran who wants to erase Israel
while his Saudi partners are killing American soldiers.

Is it time for regime change yet?.

Subject: Hillary

Bart, I don't get it.
No one has said what Hillary has done that's so uniquely wrong.

There's a reason for that.

I can understand the blind hatred of her from the right - her husband out-Reaganed Reagan.
But it seems to be coming almost equally from the left. Like you said, she voted to give Bush
last resort war-making authorization based on what a majority of Americans FINALLY
now know was a pack of lies. That's the reality.

Dems - move on.

We need Hillary because she knows how to fight a bully and I think knowing how to fight a bully
needs to be one of the major credentials in this primary. The Repubs will feel castrated when she
wins the presidency and isn't that precisely what we need?

CY in Bellefonte, PA

CY, some Democrats are determined to fuck this up no matter what.
They want what they want, and they don't care if that means a GOP president.

Nader tells them it makes no difference.

We lost 7 more since last issue
while the Little Dictator plays with himself.

...and how much did BIG OIL make yesterday?
Exxon makes $108M - every day

(And that's just ONE oil company)

7 more soldiers dead,

Bush can live with that,

Bart, I thought for sure you would be reading the "Daily Howler" of late.
Bob is railing about the Press who says SHE won't recant HER vote for Bush's bloody war.
She has.

I can't believe the Press has people so glued to this non subject.
The way it's being spun, it's as if this bloody mess is her fault.

It's just the beginning you know. This is only going to get worse.
They are very good at taking a Dem positive & turning it into a negative.
I was hoping it wouldn't work a 4th time, sure seems to be.

The worst part is - they're doing it with Democrats helping.
Democrats won't say why "Candidate X" is better than the front runner.
They scream insults at our front runner, arming the GOP for the general election.
