Franken Is the Right's New Punching Bag

Franken's prominence comes at a time in which Republicans have struggled to find an easy
Democratic bogeyman.  Obama is still overwhelmingly popular. Hillary earned respect among
conservatives as the voice of moderation on withdrawal from Iraq.   Blagojevich is too local.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are a particular favorite of Matt Drudge, but relentless attacks
on them failed to prevent heavy losses in 2006 and 2008.   Ted Kennedy is off limits.

So Franken provides an inviting target. His style of politics runs directly counter to the civility
preached by the incoming president. Franken is author of bestsellers like Rush Limbaugh Is a
Big Fat Idiot and Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, which trashed bastards like
Bill O'Reilly and baited some to respond with their own heated attacksbama

Franken, unlike most Demo senators, can take care of himself in a fight.
But sitting senators are supposed to have gravitas and avoid wild bar fights
so maybe it's up to us bloggers to defend the man when he has to "act nice."

Franken has a razor-sharp wit, so he's still formidable.
I'm glad he's on our side and I'm damn glad he won.

Now if we could just get Harry f-ing Reid to allow him a seat.

What Congress Knew About Torture

Mr. Panetta and Director of National Intelligence-designate Dennis Blair will soon have to decide
if they want to join the crusade to purge their agencies of anyone who had anything to do with torture.

In particular, at their nomination hearings they're likely to be asked to support a 'truth commission' on Bush's
torture policies. We hope they have the good sense to resist. And if they need any reason to push back, they
could start by noting the Members of Congress who would be on the witness list to raise their right hands.

Beginning in 2002, Pelosi and other key Democrats (as well as Republicans) were thoroughly, and repeatedly,
briefed on the CIA's torture programs. They did nothing to stop such activities, when they weren't fully
sanctioning them. If they now decide the tactics they heard about then amount to abuse, then by their
own logic they themselves are complicit

I say we get to the truth and if Pelosi and Reid authorized torture they should step down.
How can we be angry with Bush if he acted with the Democrats' permission?

"It has been like a national nightmare: We are attacked by terrorists and Bush responded
not with courage and a call to our higher natures, but by spreading fear -- and turning us into
a regime of torturers.  Now the nightmare appears to be almost over. By choosing two vocal
opponents of torture for two key positions -- Dawn Johnsen to head the Justice Department's
Office of Legal Counsel and Leon Panetta to head the CIA -- Obama has indicated that he
intends to make the cleanest possible break from Bush bastard precedents, end torture and
return to traditional interpretations of the Constitution."

 Subject: let's pressure those bastards

In 2008 Brown-Forman, the maker of Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort gave
Mitch McConnell (R-Bitch) money for his campaign.

Call Mitch McConnell AT 202 224-2541. Tell him No Filibusters while Obama is president,
and to seat Franken or we'll buy Wild Turkey instead of Jack Daniels.   Spread the word.
Call Brown-Forman - 502-585-1100  and e-mail their site  http://www.brown-forman.com

Get 5 friends to make these calls and ask each of those 5 to get 5 others to make those calls and so on.

Or, you could do nothing and let the bastards do Obama like they did Clinton.
We know the Democrats won't fight - so if we don't fight there won't be a fight.

Maybe we need an investigation over what happened to the Dem's missing spine?

That Cheerful Idiot
  by Garrison Keillor

When you look at the audience numbers for TV and then add up the incarcerated felons, Alzheimer's patients
and confirmed barflies in America, it dawns on you who is watching TV these days -- people unable to lead
normal productive lives -- and yet they give out awards for this stuff and the hosts of shows are driven to and fro
in Lincoln Town Cars and they suffer from toxic self-esteem.   TV is wallpaper nowadays and those talking heads
might as well be talking to the smoked trout in Murray's Deli or the No Parking signs along Broadway, as people
do from time to time, but we allow them their delusions.

And we allow the Current Occupant to leave the Mansion d'Blanc with a big grin in a couple of  weeks,
his self-esteem apparently fully intact, imagining that his legacy will emerge golden and shining in a hundred
years after all of us are deceased. He is one of the cheerfullest idiots you ever saw, a man who could burn
down his own house and be happy that the patio was still standing. Had Congress impeached him, his defense
would have been that he was not capable of understanding the charges.

"Wow. Harry Reid is pretty tough with the appearance of impropriety in his own party.
Too bad he’s utterly spineless in regards to real Republican impropriety.  It amazes me
that that terms like 'leader' actually apply to people like Reid and the spineless Pelosi."

Bush - Forever the Arrogant Bastard

As his presidency enters its final two weeks, (Please stand and join me in a shot of Chinaco!)

...George W. Bush is hoping that history will give him high marks on two scores: having prevented another
terrorist attack at home and being seen as "somebody who liberated 50 million people."  The latter comment
reflects his confidence that his Iraq failures will be lessened if and when a successful democracy emerges.

But Bush has also used a series of postelection interviews to mitigate his standing in two areas where history
is unlikely to be kind: his use of intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq war, and the extent to which his actions
and the way he defended them divided the country and alienated many US allies.

Will Bush be remembered as the man who protected us while charting a bold new policy in the Middle East?
Or as the man who squandered more good will than most of his predecessors combined?

Only Bush could claim credit for "protecting America" after sleeping thru this:

It's like Lincoln's bodyguards asking for a medal
because John Wilkes Booth only got off one shot.

Why I Hate Leon Panetta
 by Dianne Feinstein

Just talked with Dianne Feinstein about her qualms with the Leon Panetta nomination.
She said that Obama and Biden called her after the fact to discuss the choice of Panetta,
who has no direct intelligence agency experience and whose nomination came as
unwelcome news to Feinstein when it broke yesterday.

"I understand the administration's desire to cut clean and open a new chapter and I support that.
Whether those changes can be made" with Panetta at the helm, she added, remains to be seen.

I didn't read the whole story but my gut tells me Feinstein was ON the Torture Committee
and she wants a torturer to run the CIA to make her involvement in that seem like less.

Send e-mail to Bart  |  Discuss it on The BartCop ForumComment on it at the BartBlog

"There may have been a lack of foresight here in not phoning Feinstein ahead of time.
But many leading intelligence Democrats were deeply complicit in the Bush torture program
and his illegal wire-tapping. It was just as important for the president-elect to pick someone
not beholden to them either."
    -- Andrew Sullivan,  Link

Hmmm, this might be a quote from someone besides Sullivan as there were
no gratuitous insults hurled at Hillary - at least in these three sentences.

 Subject: Harry Reid

Bart,  I saw a quote from Harry Reid where he claims "he doesn't work for Obama".

Let me try and get this straight - Reid rolled over for the Rethugs over and over again.
They said "Jump" and he did. They made demands and he caved-in to them.
They broke rule after rule and he said little or nothing. And now he puts out a
statement like he he's trying to sound tough, being  "his own man" ????

So for whom does he work?
The majority of people voted for Obama. Reid says he doesn't "work" for him
But Reid, by his lack of actions these past few years, has shown he doesn't work for the people either!

Is there something wrong with this man? (A rhetorical question, really).
And I didn't think I could get any more disgusted with this man.
 Mary Lou

Reid was always there for every crime the Bush bastards committed
and now he wants to lay down the law for Obama - doesn't it figure?.

One important story from W.’s past is the illegal abortion he obtained for a girlfriend in Texas

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit - we had that story eight years ago.
The whore press had it too, but their job has always been to protect Bush.

before Roe v. Wade. This is substantiated in part by four reporters whose stories were not published,
but who shared their “experiences and detailed source notes” and even tapes with him. Two Bush pals
took charge of arranging the abortion go to the hospital and who went to the hospital to inform her that
W would not see her again. All of the names are named. As an candidate who was seeking to appeal to
conservative evangelical, anti-abortion constituencies, this would have been a high hurdle to overcome.

Like his insistence on long prison sentences for first time drug offenders and his support for military action,
his own behavior in regard to sexual responsibility and abortion could be considered relevant *and revealing.”

BFEE Chart 2009

Subject: Tell Harry Reid to shut up

Hey Bart,

You and your contributors are hitting the Tutu wearing Reid (and Pelosi) nail right on the head.
For the same reason as Obama needed to pick someone for the CIA without the blood of torture
on their hands, we need majority leaders without the foul stench of stinky Bush on their Tutus.

I kinda like Blago and Burris; at least they fight,
unlike the lay down Dems of the last eight years.

If Obama was a greedy Fascist dog,
maybe Harry Reid would be nicer to him.

Home sales sink to 7-year low
And who was president 7 years ago?

Pending sales of existing U.S. homes dropped to a seven-year low in November, as rising
job losses and a deepening economic recession kept potential house buyers on the sidelines.

The Home Sales Index dropped 4.0 percent to 82.3, the lowest level since the series started in 2001.
That was worse than economists' expectations for a 0.1 percent drop.  November's reading was
5.3 percent lower than a year-ago and October's pending home sales index was revised down to 85.7.

This is no surprise.
This is what happens when you take money from the middle class and give it to billionaires.

If only we could get some Democrats to list the facts.

 Subject:  Coleman won't go away

Hey Bart,

I've finally become cautiously optimistic that Al Franken will be my new Senator
(I learned not to get too hopeful when it comes to politics); but Coleman just won't go away.

The overall feeling up here is that Coleman's challenge lacks merit.  Even if it is successful,
and the challenged ballots are excluded, it appears Al's lead will hold.

My "Al Franken for Senate" lawn sign will stay up, until we have a Senator
-- of course it is in the middle of a snow drift, now.

Happy New Year.

Subject: Harry Reid and The New Senator

Dear Hammersmith,

If anything can capsulize the Idiocrats that are the Democratic Senate leaders it is
this situation regarding the nomination of Roland Burris to take over Obama's seat.

After laying down and opening wide for virtually every one of the Smirking Murderer's policies,
Harry Reid chooses THIS issue to make a stand. It will have the same results as every other act
that Reid has opposed, to wit; his capitulation. With the economy in shambles, our infrastructure
falling to pieces and an unjust war that seems to have no end in sight, these dimwits should have
plenty of other issues to spend their time and OUR money on.

The Democrats had 8 years of built in excuses with Bush riding on the back of the Republican
Congressional elephant. It is now Reid and company's turn to sit at the big people's table.
To see this asinine infighting  after the last 8 years makes me want to hurl my breakfast.
We are headed the way of ancient Rome if this is a glimpse of "Change".
Glad I'm stocked up on Chinaco.

Keep swinging that Hammer Bart,
 Jimmy Bones

Is God Real or Imaginary?

Is God real, or is he imaginary?
It is one of the most important questions you can ask yourself.

If God is real and if God inspired the Bible, then we should worship God as the Bible demands.
We should certainly post the Ten Commandments in our courthouses and shopping centers, put
"In God We Trust" on the money and pray in our schools. We should focus our society on God
and his infallible Word because our everlasting souls hang in the balance.

On the other hand, if God is imaginary, then religion is a complete illusion.  Belief in God is nothing
but a silly superstition, and this superstition leads a significant portion of the population to be delusional.

Well put.
If God could really guarantee us immortality - we'd all join up, right?

Poker Tells aren't a big deal
 by Mike the Dealer

Tells aren’t a big deal

People often ask me what sort of tells do players give off in poker games, how can they pick off a bluff,
or how can they fold with confidence knowing they are beat. The fact is you’ll rarely if ever pick up a tell
on somebody that’s 100% accurate. Following how a person bets their hands during a session and studying
their betting patterns is far more likely to lead you to coming to the right conclusion. All this said, I have a
few simple things to watch for tells.

Random Thought

We really need to get rid of Reid & Pelosi so I came up with an idea:

Obama could invent some meaningless cabinet positions and convince the
two of them that they are needed there - and not in the Senate and House.

He could make Harry Reid Secretary of Unnecessary Handjobs
and make Nancy Pelosi the Secretary of Silly Shit.

Then he could get smart people with courage to run the House and Senate.
