Blago gets 14 Years in Prison

Breaking - no news yet on the net

I still have no idea what his crime was - maybe it was for cursing too much?
He had something that people would pay $40M for - why should he give that away?

When Obama won the White House, he offered Biden the VP slot  - how is it different?
When Obama won the White House, he offered Hillary Sec of State - was that a crime?

Surely it was a bigger crime to bet short on the WTC insurance company on 9-10-01,
but nobody has been arrested for knowing in advance that the towers were coming down.

But attempting to sell something worth $40M is a crime?

Why Obama won't investigate Wall Street
  by 2008 Obama-worshipper David Sirota

  Link

When it comes to Obama's refusal to aggressively investigate — much less prosecute — Wall Street crime,
one prevailing line of apologism implies that it’s all about resources. As the general fable goes, Wall Street is
so sprawling and so lawyered up that Obama's law enforcement agencies simply don’t have the resources to
make sure justice is served, especially at a time of budget deficits. In this story, Wall Street is not simply too
big to fail; it’s too big to even police.

The motivation for such myth-making is obvious: It wholly absolves Obama for his decisions to let his
financial-industry campaign contributors off the hook. Yet thanks to recent events, the whole “Too Big
to Police” rationale is being exposed for the farce that it is.

Well then David, don't you owe us an apology?

You lied, cheated and stole
(not to mention racially slurred) to get Obama elected in 2008
and now you're telling us "the government" refuses to do their job?

BTW, I changed some words in Sirota's story.

The coward lets Obama off the hook when he's obviously the buck-stopper making the decisions.

Sirota blames "the government" and "elected officials" and "law enforcement agencies"
so he can pretend Obama is blame-free - can you believe what a weasel David Sirota is?

"My job is to mislead you..."

Subject:  the truth about Republicans

Bart, I just stumbled across this classic Carlin piece, thought you might enjoy it

"Republicans are against street crime - unless that street is Wall Street."

Thanks to Dave L

The Winter of our Occupation
  by Michael Moore

  Link

We are not even 12 weeks old, yet Occupy Wall Street has grown so fast, so big, none of us can
keep up with the hundreds of towns who have joined the movement, or the thousands of actions
-- some of them just simple ones in neighborhoods, schools and organizations -- that have happened.

The national conversation has been irreversibly changed. Now everyone is talking about how the
1% are getting away with all the money while the 99% struggle to make ends meet. People are no
longer paralyzed by despair or apathy. Most know that now is the time to reclaim our country from
the bankers, the lobbyists -- and their gofers: the members of Congress and the 50 state legislatures.

And they're crazy if they think that a little climate chaos (otherwise known as winter in the 21st century)
that they've helped to bring about is going to stop us.

There are many ways to keep Occupy Wall Street going through the winter months.  There is perhaps
no better time to move the movement indoors for a few months -- and watch it grow even bigger!

Good point - why not occupy malls and banks and brokerage firms?
What are the police going to do - keep arresting people month after month, year after year?

Eastwood pulls a Hamilton
by Whitewashing Hoover's crimes

 Link

J. Edgar Hoover conducted some of the greatest abuses of power and legal transgressions ever.
And while he did so, he protected himself by collecting pieces of personal blackmail.

In one famous case, Hoover managed to secure film of a prominent citizen’s wife fellating her
black chauffeur. When these kinds of things did not exist, Hoover would have FBI employees
invent the evidence to execute the blackmail.

A good example of this was Hoover’s destruction of Congressman Cornelius Gallagher, who was
concerned about the use of the Bureau’s technologies to spy on Americans. Gallagher spoke about
this in Congress and began to hold hearings on the topic. Hoover sent an emissary to warn him.

When Gallagher persisted, the Director manufactured a scenario of Gallagher being tied in with
the local New Jersey mob. The FBI broke into his home and stole his personal stationery.
Hoover’s operatives then forged documents to connect Gallagher to Mafia chieftain Joe Zicarelli.
They also forged telephone tapes of Gallagher talking to Zicarelli.

Hoover and DeLoach got Life magazine to publish that false story. DeLoach then told Gallagher’s
lawyer that unless the congressman resigned DeLoach would have Life print a story that a New Jersey
gambler had died of a heart attack at Gallagher’s home while in bed with his wife.

Subject: summer and winter solstice

I think I can help w/ some of your questions, Bart!

Native Americans commonly constructed wooden post structures, Stonehenge-like, at their villages,
including Cahokia Mounds, IL—across the river from STL—and Spiro Mounds in far eastern OK
(both of which I’ve seen my-own-damn-self) that are interpreted to be quite accurate astronomical
observatories.  Even better, they did it far earlier than you suggest—IIRC, Spiro dates from the
1100s (Common Era) and Cahokia from the 400s.

When your next planting/harvesting season depended on knowing when the solstice was coming,
I’ll bet they got good pretty quick!

Now, about rappelling down the cliff on a vine?  I’m witcha:  How the hell did they do that?  :-)

Subject: OK State football

Hey Bart,

Looking at cold, hard facts, the Oklahoma State defense is ranked # 107, Alabama's defense is ranked # 1.

Being a south Florida resident who doesn't give a hoot about any college football, you look at the numbers
and you have to accept the facts.  When you're  # 107 (out of #112!!) you are a straw man's argument to
play the last college football game of the year.

As an aside, I'll never understand full grown men driving 400 miles one way and painting their faces to root
for a bunch of teenaged boys in tight pants piling on top of each other--unless they're all latent Jerry Sanduskys.

Swing, swing, swing that ball peen hammer,
 Paul in Boca

Paul, I'm glad you said it because I can tell you're not a college football fan.

You'd rather watch a 7-3 championship game than see the final score 45-42?

Subject: Iran

Bart,

Opposing an insane attack on Iran is not the same as
not wanting Iran to get nukes or wanting to avoid nuclear war.

That is a stupid analogy.

Vince, your quadruple negatives gave me a headache
trying to figure out what it was you intended to say.

I would rather battle Iran before they got nukes
but you are free to disagree with me on that.

I'll bet Memphis Minnie is with me.
