I wanted to get something in
writing before The White House completely melts down:
First of all Don't Panic because there is no problem, at least not politically.

This is true - after two years of bungling inaction, it was a genius move to ask congress for permission.
If Assad does nothing, Obama can say, "Our mere threat to invade has done the trick and Assad
seems to have learned his lesson."
If Assad gasses again, Obama can say, "This is an emergency, we can't wait for congress,"
and then smack Assad as hard as he wants because "He's asking for it." Everybody agrees - right?
If the GOP House says "No!" to any military action, then all the gassed children on the TV for the next
few months will have been brought to you by the GOP that tied Obama's hands when he wanted to
step in and save the women and children.
The other things: Congress is balking at the attack authorization, saying "It's too broad."
So Obama tells them, "Write your own authorization" then they own the result, not Obama.
Congress's choices are to tie Obama's hands and then own whatever happens
or get the hell out of the way and let Obama screw things up all on his own.
You know which path this Teabagger congress will take
- the one that does them the most harm, like always.
BTW, I'm not necessarily FOR this "slapping" of Assad.
I think Obama should've acted years ago when Assad was losing badly, but we're here now.
I think Obama is a wiseman, a sober man who's taking this very seriously (Unlike Cowboy Bushy)
he's slow to act (to a fault), NOT interested in another Muslim war but I assume he's looking at the
BIG picture and getting great advice from the smartest people on Earth.
If Obama says he thinks smacking Assad is the right move, I'll trust his judgment.

Russia Sends Warships to Syria

Russia will "over the next few days" be sending an anti-submarine ship and a missile cruiser
to the Mediterranean as the West prepares for possible strikes against Syria, Interfax said Thursday.
"The situation in the Mediterranean called for certain corrections to the make-up of the naval forces,"
a source in the Russian General Staff told Interfax.
"A large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet will join them (the existing naval forces) over the next few days.
In addition, a rocket cruiser will join the Russian naval forces by replacing a large anti-submarine ship.
However, a high-ranking Russian naval commander who said the changes were not linked
to the current tensions over Syria and called them "a planned rotation."

LDuring the drama over the so-called Amash Amendment General Keith Alexander, head of the NSA,
went to Capitol Hill to lobby against the law. During the course of his lobbying members of Congress
responded to his presentations with a reasonable question – can we see our own files? Alexander said no.
According to David Sirota, these exchanges are revealing as to how the NSA’s power works in Washington.
Sirota says:
Consider the deep messaging of the NSA’s brand. Only forty years removed from the blackmail-tinged
reign of J. Edgar Hoover, the NSA has developed an image which implies the agency is vacuuming up
more than enough incriminating phone records, emails and text/sext messages to politically torpedo
any rank-and-file congressman, should that congressman step out of line.
And here’s the thing: for all the agita intelligence officials express about new disclosures, those disclosures
illustrate the sheer size and scope of governement surveillance. That doesn’t weaken the NSA – on the contrary,
it serves to politically strengthen the agency by constantly reminding lawmakers that the NSA 1) probably has
absolutely everything on them and 2) could use that stuff against them.
I don't know what to think about this.
The mainstream media won't touch this story - I wonder why?

are grudgingly bowing to the reality that "Obamacare" is the law of the land and almost certainly here to stay.
The governors' reluctant acceptance is based on financial prudence and political necessity.
"My approach is to not spend a lot of time complaining," Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad said recently.
"We're going to do our level best to make it work as best we can."
It's the same view embraced by fellow Republicans John Kasich of Ohio, Susana Martinez of New Mexico,
Brian Sandoval of Nevada, Rick Snyder of Michigan and Rick Scott of Florida.

Fort Hood Shooter Gets Death

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was sentenced to death Wednesday for killing 13 people and wounding 32 others
in a 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Tex., the worst mass murder at a military installation in U.S. history.
Dressed in Army fatigues, Hasan, who turns 43 next month, listened impassively as the death sentence was
handed down by a panel of 13 senior military officers in a unanimous decision after two hours of deliberations.
If even a single panel member had objected, Hasan would instead have been sentenced to life in prison.
He also was stripped of pay and other financial benefits, which he continued to receive while in custody.
I would rather see this asshole get life in prison.
I think the victims and victims' families should visit him often.

Since Chuck Hagel left for Southeast Asia last week, he has been wrestling with when and how to go to war.
"I think the world has had enough war," Hagel told a forum in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
He was responding to a question about China but broadened his answer to talk about war, generally.
"I think one of the things that we have learned over the years, regardless of the region of the world,
is that wars can't resolve differences," he said on Sunday.
But Hagel hinted in Indonesia the next day that a limited intervention in Syria might be necessary,
saying nations sometimes must go to war - including for humanitarian reasons.
He had told reporters toward the start of his trip that the United States couldn't wait indefinitely to respond
to any confirmed use of chemical weapons. "If, in fact, this was a deliberate use and attack by the Syrian
government on its own people using chemical weapons, there may be another attack coming," he said.
Wait, you're saying "IF?"
I thought the evidence was clear and compelling.
I think Hagel and Obama are two guys who DON'T want to go to war.

In this case, yes for two reasons:
1. Syria has not attacked the US.
2. Syria is in no position to attack the US, nor has Assad threatened to attack the US.
The US is clearly the aggressor here and by the way, according to the UN charter, the only reason
another country may attack another is, a. as retaliation for an attack and, b. to head off an impending attack.
Case closed.
