I am saddened at the news of Bart's passing. He was an inspiration and a blessing and will be sorely missed. I hope his mission can be continued; in the meantime I'll re-read as many of his priceless productions as possible. Best wishes to his family and friends.

I started reading Bartcop in the late 90s. I was in grad school and wasn't that into politics, but he was so funny and pithy that I couldn't resist him, kept coming back again and again ever since.

This is such sad news. He will be so missed. To Mrs. Bart, my heartfelt condolences to you.

I am so sad to learn of this. I had not checked the site in the last few days because my beloved dog recently died and I was in mourning. I have loved this site since the election was stolen.

Bartcop was so instrumental in helping me raise funds so that my children could attend my father's funeral in 2005. I loved him as a friend and I never had the privilege of meeting him in person.

We will all collectively pick up his hammer and swing it in his honor.

This is shocking and sad. Bart had a clear viewpoint and voice like none other-and was often quite brave to put it on the line. My deepest condolences for his family. His clarity and heroic fighting spirit with be missed.

Dammit Bart, I started writing a lengthy tribute but can't seem to make it meet my standards. So I'm going to make this a short, sweet thank you.

Thanks for being unapologetically liberal on issues of social justice. Thanks for holding our side's feet to the fire when necessary. Thanks for showing us how to stand up and fight.

Thanks for enjoying every Chinaco.

Peace.

I've been reading for several years and am just shocked. I've been checking expecting a "Hey, I'm back!" and to just see this... I'm sorry to Mrs. Bart and the rest of his friends and family. I hope this website continues in his memory and Mrs. Bart keeps Casa de Bart!

I found Bartcop just about when I move to Chicago in 1996. I used to print out his rants and read them on the bus on the way home. People would ask me what was so funny, so I would hand them the pages. Some showed up later as posters. But they all laughed too. He was a brilliant writer and the first real blog on the innertubes. I met him at JulieFest (and later in Chicago), and he ran the thing, but he and Debby were in the background. I'll never forget that weekend. We drove from Chicago and stayed in Cleveland with Dan (Theoectomy) then got to DC the next morning. We stayed with Duncan Black (Atrios), who was kind to share his room in a sold out hotel, and met James Carville and David Brock and a whole bunch more. It was amazing and one of the best parties ever. While all of us were ranting, Bart just laid back, enjoying the scene. He was a true innovator, even though he barely understood how to use a computer. I remember I somehow found his site by searching Rush Limbaugh. Not even sure how we did that before Google, but there must have been a way. I saw Rush Limbaugh-Lying Nazi Whore pop up and I was sold. Take care, Terry. I'll try to ship you a bottle of Chinaco Anejo. Send me your address! Love, Pete

I don't know how I came across the site, I still had a dial-up connection, but Bart remained consistently sharp, argumentative, funny and non-bullshit for as long as I have known BartCop.com... The only website I have ever felt the need to send any support to. My condoleances to the family, and RIP.
