Citizens, Not Consumers
  by Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
Democrats still don't seem to understand the forces that sent them into the wilderness in 1994 or the
reasons they were summoned back in 2006. Typical of their cluelessness was their "100 Hours Survey."
The issues included ...<snippage>

No reference was made to ending the Iraq War, launching investigative hearings on Bush's actions,
reasserting checks and balances on the Executive, or restoring constitutional safeguards that have been
overridden during the "war on terror," such as the habeas corpus right to a fair trial.

What's missing is any commitment to the larger purpose of the American Republic.
The Democratic leaders have yet to grasp that the transcendent principles of democracy were a
major factor in the national rejection of Bush and the Republican congressional majority on Nov. 7.

The poor Democrats - they have such a problem with math.
They can't realize that Bush's 30% approval rating gives them most of the other 70%.

If we could somehow get a message to them that 70 beats 30...

Bush made a martyr out of a tyrant

 independent.co.uk

 Excerpt:
By the time Saddam had been tried and condemned,

there were few who believed his execution would solve anything. The security situation had already
deteriorated too far; sectarian conflict was rampant, and the new Iraqi police force was hopelessly
infiltrated. What seems not to have been anticipated, however, was the extent to which Saddam's
death could actually make matters worse.

Oh, if there's a way things can get worse in Iraq, they will.
It's almost as tho Bush has something to gain by keeping this war going.

Rights threatened
 by Gene Lyons

 nwanews.com

 Excerpt:
The BALCO investigation in San Francisco, a media-driven probe of alleged steroid abuse by
professional athletes is beginning to rival Kenneth Starr's probe of the Very Naughty President
for misplaced prosecutorial zeal and dangerous constitutional precedents.

Back in 2003, when steroid use was [legal], the Baseball Players Association negotiated a
one-time, confidential and anonymous drug test for diagnostic purposes. If more than 5 percent
tested positive - 8. 7 percent did - they'd agree to the testing regimen now enforced.

Anxious to get evidence about 11 players, including Barry Bonds, BALCO prosecutors
subpoenaed their test results. Citing the confidentiality agreement, the MLBPA sought to
quash the subpoena. (There are many legitimate reasons a player might test positive. )
Prosecutors then got a search warrant from another judge who wasn't told that the matter
was already under litigation - to lawyers, the equivalent of a spitball.

Subject: broken femur

Bart,

Two years ago my 15 year old daughter (now 17) was struck by a full size pick up truck shattering
her femur in two places. A top orthopedic surgeons inserted two titanium rods in her leg and bolted
the bones back together. No cast and sent home on crutches. She was back to school in a week.

Today they seldom use casts anymore and want you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
The quicker you're up and using the leg the better and faster it heals. So it is highly likely that
the gropinator was treated and released as described.

Re elect President Gore in 08
 Mark S

Mark, I believe you, but I'm still confused.
The bone is still broken and it still has weight.
Gravity will yank on that broken bone every time he moves.

Is the bone so bolted together so hard that neither half can move?
That sounds painful...

Subject: constitutional crisis

Do you believe this???
http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/01/01/judges.pay.ap/index.html

*WASHINGTON* (AP) -- Pay for federal judges is so inadequate that it threatens to undermine
the judiciary's independence, Chief Justice John Roberts says in a year-end report critical of Congress.

Roberts said the judiciary will not properly serve its constitutional role if it is restricted to people
so wealthy that they can afford to be indifferent to the level of judicial compensation, or to people
for whom the judicial salary represents a pay increase.

Shred the 4th Amendment = no outrage
Killing 3000 Americans = no outrage

Judges only making $165k = outrage

US-Leaked Video Meant to Cause Conflict

 islamservices.org

 Excerpt:
Iraq has been under American occupation and rule since March 2003. America has total control.
Americans are actually promoting violence by hiring thugs from both the Sunni and Shia communities.

American and British soldiers have been caught disguised as Arabs in vehicles laden with explosives
and remote controls. Majority of car bombings are remote controlled rigged cars with dead Iraqis
installed in driver seats to make it appear as suicide bombings.

Chaos is what America wanted in Iraq from the day it invaded. They created chaos themselves.
With the embedded media they create the impression that Iraqis are fighting a civil war.

Chaos is needed to hide the real crime of [Bush], i.e. stealing of Iraqi oil!
While people are fighting amongst themselves, American corporations will be stealing Iraqi wealth

This guy's been reading  bartcop.com   If you read  bartcop.com  you, too, can become
a senior editorial writer for islamservices.org  or any major newspaper or network.

It's so obvious what Bush and his thugs are doing, if the low-IQ Okie knew it years ago,
why can't the Washington Whore Post or NY Whore Times figure it out? Or the networks?
Or the news magazines or the cable Nazis?

Bush is stealing about $300M a day and we lose about three soldiers a day.
Do the math - Bush gets $100M every time a soldier dies.

That's a price Bush and every elected Republican is willing to pay.

Why do you think this war is dragging on forever?

Subject: coffin-cargo photo was real

 Excerpt:
Marine 2nd Lieutenant Jim Cathey was killed by an improvised explosive device.
His body was escorted to Reno, Nevada, by a fellow Marine, Sergeant Gavin Conleyr.
Cathey's last trip home was on an American Airlines flight, his coffin in the cargo hold
and Conley riding in the first-class section. On arrival in Reno, passengers were told by
the pilot to remain in their seats until Sergeant Conley had disembarked and seen his
friend delivered into the arms of his family and pregnant wife.

Maybe this will be the picture people the families see in their minds when they think
about Bush sending their loved ones to die on-the-cheap because of his personal greed.

White House Won't Condemn Saddam Taunts
A show trial and mob lynching is all they deserve? Is that what you mean?

 WaHoPo

 Excerpt:
Bush sent conflicting signals Wednesday about the taunting and baiting at Saddam's execution,
with the White House declining to join criticism of the procedure and the State Department and
U.S. military raising questions about it.

"These issues are best addressed out of Iraq," said Deputy Liar Scott Stanzel.
"Maliki's staff expressed their disappointment in the filmings, so we'll leave it at that."

The mob lynching was broadcast on Al-Jazeera television and was posted on the Internet, prompting
a worldwide outcry and big protests among Iraq's minority Sunnis.

Gen. William Caldwell, the U.S. military spokesman, tried to sell the lie that our military was powerless
over events that happen on an American military base, where the lynching occured. He blamed the
witnesses who were invited by the Americans to enjoy Saddam's murder party.

"Would we have done things differently? Yes we would have. But that's not our decision.
That's the government of Iraq's decision," Caldwell said.  He said the United States had
nothing to do with the facility where the execution took place.

If we can't control a low-tech, mob lynching on a US military base - why are we over there?

How old is the Grand Canyon?
Ask a fundie Xian - they know everything

 peer.org

 Excerpt:
Bush has gagged Park Rangers at the Grand Canyon. Under orders from the Little Dictator
they are not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature,
due to pressure from Fundie crackpots who think Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs to church.

Despite promising a prompt review of its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was
created by Noah's flood rather than by geologic forces, more than three years later no review
has ever been done and the book remains on sale at the park.

"In order to avoid offending handjob fundies, our National Park Service is under orders to
suspend its belief in geology," stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch. "It is disconcerting
that the official position of a national park as to the geologic age of the Grand Canyon is 'no comment.'"

It's one thing to be religiously insane.
It's another to grab the reigns of government and remove science from the public's view.

It's clearer than Lake Concha - Bush does not want to "work together" with the Demo congress.
He can't fathom the fact that he got thumped by the voters in November and every step he takes
away from the direction the voters want means two steps back for their eventual presidential nominee.

Voters want Bush stopped and I predict they will make the GOP pay in 2008 for backing him.

THEY made the mess, THEY should take the blame.

Take care,

The Powell Doctrine combines a clear objective with a plan that includes an exit strategy
couple with overwhelming force to maximize the odds of coming away successful.

The McCain Doctrine is when you send more troops into a bloody quagmire
to placate the rabid, right-wing, religio-loonies by getting so far up Bush's ass
that you can't tell when Bush's ass ends and McCain's head starts.

Vindication - Vince Young

We talked about Vince back in Volume 1685.

 Excerpt:
He might've had the best game a college quarterback ever had in a modern championship game.
He was Michael Jordan - tall praise, indeed - he just refused to be denied this victory.

You know what really impressed me?  He ran for three touchdowns, (467 total yards!)
and each time, he politely tossed the ball to the ref.

He gave a clinic on how to win the national championship with class.

But then, I saw something in Dead Tree News about some test they give to NFL potentials
and Mr. Young didn't do very well, which reminded me of an old Garret Morris skit on SNL.

I thought it was an outrage and said so somewhere in a BCR Show. After single-handedly
whipping Southern Cal for the national title, he's not smart enough to play in the big leagues?

Vince Young: AP Offensive Rookie of Year

 Link

 Excerpt:
Vince Young, who led Texas to the 2005 national championship and was the third
overall pick in the draft, overwhelmed one of the strongest rookie classes in NFL history.

Young was the catalyst in Tennessee's rally from 0-5 to 8-8, at times looking as unstoppable.
A starter from Week 4, Young sprinkled spectacular big plays with a growing maturity to win
top rookie honors in the 49-year history of the "Suck on that" award.

I think Garrett Morris was right.

Knowing greed like I do, I'll bet they give the black stars a test, asking which fork goes with
what plate and if they don't do very well on the test?  Well, they'd have to "be reasonable" and
work for half the going rate until they "prove themselves" or blow out a knee and never play again.

"You're the greatest poker player in the world, ...with no chips."
-- Shawn the Sheik, taunting poor Phil Hellmuth on NBC's Poker After Dark

I've only seen two of these shows (on mightly after Carson Daly) but so far I love it.
The show should be titled, "Let's beat up Phil."

I'm one of those people who find screwing with Phil Hellmuth to be tons of fun.
Every time Phil loses a hand, he says, "You got lucky" or "This can't be happening."

About every other hand, he explains to the table that he's so much better than them
and every other player on the planet - and then he loses again.

Last year on High Stakes Poker (the best of them all) when Phil walked thru the door
the players gave each other high fives because they knew they'd be splitting his money,
it was just a matter of who got the biggest chunk.

Sure enough, Phil lost (I think) $100K of his own money in three hands..

Last thing - ever heard of Mike Matesow? (sp?) They call him "Mike the Mouth"
because he's a lot like Phil, but I think he's seen as more mean-spirited than Phil.

They said he lost $500K playing poker online.
That computer is no longer processing.

Subject: lowly Lions

Hey Bart!

Yes, Detroit beat Dallas in their last regular season game, but that put them at 3-13,
costing them the first pick in the draft next year

Insane franchise destroyer Matt Millen (gotta be R - never thinks he's wrong) went down for a meet
with the boss and said "I'll never quit.  I can't do that.  I don't even consider that." after finishing with
yet another losing record as Lions pResident/CEO.  And the management rewarded him for screwing
the Lions with a five year contract extension last year.
