Subject: "assassinating" bin Laden
Bart, a lot of people (including GHWBush) have tried to make the claim that,
in any war or "police action," the US does not target specific individuals.
In battles, this has never been the case.
During the "gentlemanly" wars of the 17th to 19th centuries, officers wore
special, bright uniforms or sashes as "the honor of being a special target."
We stopped doing this, temporarily, from about the time of the US Civil War
(a "total war" that involved killing everyone you saw and burning civilian cities
to the ground) through World War II (firebombing civilian cities, and dropping
the A-bomb on both a military and a civilian target).
Now the Geneva Conventions require us to limit our attacks to military targets
-- but some people complain that we are trying to "assassinate" military leaders.
You can't have it both ways.
Either we can target specific areas and individuals
or we're reduced to "total war."
Personally, I prefer the specific targeting.

I think the rules don't apply to bin Laden.
His sneak attack on civilians was almost unheard of in modern history.
And in war time, why would the leaders be immune from targeting?
That makes no sense to me.

Saving money requires a lot of difficult choices. Which programs do we cut in tough times?
Which priorities are more important than others? As we've seen here in the Senate and across
the country over the last few months, a lot of people have a lot of different answers to those questions.
Then there are the choices that aren't so tough at all. There's clear waste in the federal budget and the
tax code. And then there's Big Oil. We're giving billions and billions of dollars every year - $4 billion
- every cent of it taxpayer money - to oil companies that already are more than successful.
Yes, Obama's on a roll (up to 60% in the polls) but he's still the guy who
gave the super-rich a trillion dollars and cut heating subsidies for the poor.

Every time a Republican gets caught with a
man in his mouth, (like wide-stance Larry Craig)
FOX labels him a Democrat for the first few days.
Then they say, "Oh, our bad" and then admit he's a Rethug.
Funny how the semi-legit news networks never call them on that.

I think it's logical that our military has capabilities
that they have yet to share with law enforcement.

If I'm not mistaken, online Poker is perfectly legal in England, France, Germany,
Italy, Sweden, Australia and pretty much every "normal" country in the world.
Yet our president had a hardon to go after online poker - why?
He said we had to "look forward" when it came to the crimes of the Bush bastards,
so why can't he "look forward" when it comes to the terrible "crime" of poker?

He said his first thoughts were "This is either Iran or bin Laden,"
then concluded it was bin Laden because Bush would glass Iran if it was them.
At first. bin Laden denied the crime, then admitted it months later.
