"We're under great threat because we occupy so many countries. We're in 130 countries.
We have 900 bases around the world. We're going broke. The purpose of al-Qaeda was to
attack us, invite us over there, where they can target us. And they have been doing it.
We're there, OCCUPYING THEIR LAND. And if we think that we can do that and not
have retaliation, we're kidding ourselves.  What would we do if, say China, did to us
what we do to all those countries over there?"

Carville: It's Time to Panic

  Link

Today I was mulling over election results from New York and Nevada while thinking,
"What should the White House do now?" One word came to mind: Panic.

Carville said Democrats are “past sending out talking points” and said he would tell the president,
“The time has come to demand a plan of action that requires a complete change from the direction you are headed.”

Carville’s advice: “Fire. Indict. Fight.”

Obama must fire someone – “No – fire a lot of people” — because the current team is just not working.

Following the precedent of Bill Clinton, who fired many people in 1994, Ronald Reagan, who fired most
of his campaign staff in 1980, and Bush, who fired Rumsfeld, would give Americans a sense that Obama
is actually trying to do something to fix the economy.

“It’s not going to work with the same team, the same strategy, and the same excuses,” he wrote

I have no faith in Obama's ability to change course.
He's going to keep heading the same wrong direction until January 20th, 2013.

Obama is doing his best to give the country back to the party who destroyed it.

Obama Abandons Science on Ozone
Boehner wanted it, so that's what Boehner got

 Link

Polluters are claiming victory after Obama abandoned his commitment to create science-based
standards for ground-level ozone—a primary component of smog. This decision has profound
public health consequences and belies the president’s pledge to “restore science to its rightful place.”

The EPA is currently crafting science-based rules to reduce other health threats.
Will the president let politics trump public health again?

Obama is acting like a scared child.
His personal approval rating is somewhere around 33 percent, and congress comes in about 14%.

Why is the 33 constantly following the 14 over the damn cliff?

Clearly, Obama no longer wants to be president.
Clearly, he wants to please Boehner more than the voters or his base.

Subject: Congressional Pensions are not on the table?

The President and Congress have said that in order to cut the deficit that "everything"
has to be on the table. Does "everything" include the pensions that members of Congress get?

It seems to me that if anyone should get their pensions cut it should be Congress because
they are the ones who passed the unbalanced budgets that created the debt in the first place.

They want us to put Social Security on the table.
If Congress doesn't cut their pensions then not everything is really on the table.

Subject: Something strange

Hay Bart,
Two-thirds the way down today's page, Vol 2752, with nothing else open, I got a couple of audio ads!

Two +/- minutes of music and an ad for "Airwick" and after a brief musical interlude something for 'Limsic Mac' (?).
Where the hell does that come from?

Neither of those products are readily available here to my knowledge nor have I ever heard those ads before.
I am on a sole connection and have never had this happen on your or any other site.    Any ideas?

Curiously yours
 Peter NZ

Peter, I an clueless, which seems to happen a lot, lately.

I would suspect the new Yahoo. They regularly hijack my computer
and start running movie clips and commercials without warning, the bastards.

Also, upgrading Yahoo will make some programs stop working.

DO NOT UPGRADE to the new Yahoo.
You'll be swamped with hookers who want to "chat."

These scary headlines were brought to you by
RS Janes and Obama's refusal to lead.

  Wall-Street-protecting Republicans running my country.”

--  Carville, and he's right.     Link

 I agree 100%.
Obama's leadership style of "cave-in early on everything" has been a total disaster.

Obama's failure to engage the enemy is killing the middle class.

  Tally

Tally, I wonder why my words aren't hitting your ears.

Even if you list 550 billion things Obama has "accomplished,"
how does that help when his approval rating is in the thirties?

The dog refuses to eat the dog food.
When that happens, Tally says, "But it's full of beef and pork and chicken,"

If the dog won't eat, you can list 550 billion reasons why he should eat,
but the dog (or the voters) aren't buying it.

You keep trying to win the dog over in a debate.
But the dog doesn't understand anything you're saying.

The logical answer is to try a different dog food.

Pat Robertson: Screw My Wife

Religious huckster Pat Robertson told his viewers sheep that divorcing a spouse with Alzheimer's
is justifiable because the disease is "a kind of death."

During his hate show, Robertson was asked what advice a man should give to a friend who began
seeing another woman after his wife started suffering from the incurable neurological disorder.

"I know it sounds cruel, but if he's going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again,
but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her," Robertson said.

Voting for the GOP's Obama
  by Brian Morton

  Link

A friend of mine said that next year for the first time, he'll be voting for a Republican.
He plans to vote for Barack Obama.

The joke here is that Obama is in reality governing somewhere in the Nixon-Rockefeller range.
Nearly every one of his "big ideas" is a program that has been sanctioned, if not originally conceived,
by Republicans of the past. Cap and trade? A GOP idea. Individual health care mandate? A sop to
tax cuts in every bill? There's a little something of the Grand Old Party in everything he does.

A few elections back, Howard Dean opened every speech with, "I'm from the Democratic wing
of
the Democratic party." It often seems like, just as there are no moderate Republicans anymore,
there are few if any elected Democrats from the Democratic wing of the party either.

How can Democrats act like Democrats when their president wants to punish the poor
and borrow a billion dollars from China to give to the super-rich for doing nothing?

Subject: On firemen

Dear Bart - the 10th anniversary of 9/11 was, in my opinion, basically a cheesy backdrop for justifying
and advancing crazy wars, an aggressive foreign policy, hatred of a whole race of people, the loss of
civil liberties, and the political agenda of a lot of assholes I don't like and who I think are hurting our country.
Additionally, so much awful crap has happened in the wake of 9/11 that, despite the drama of the towers
collapsing, it dwarfs the event itself when you put it all in perspective.

What got me through is remembering the strength and resiliency of the people of New York,
but most of all, of course, the firemen.

The people who are always there for us in our most terrible hours of pain, fear and panic are firemen.
September 11 is seared into the souls of we ordinary mortals forever - but for the firemen that day
 - it was just another day at work.

Never forget or take their skill, bravery, and selfless service to living things and our property for granted.
The guys on the truck in your town would risk themselves for you just as surely as the men of NYC did
that terrible day when they climbed the stairs of the Towers the day of the attack. As I acknowledge this
anniversary, what is most vivid to me were the firemen. Just as we honor forever those brave firemen
we lost that day, and we must honor and give thanks to all firemen who every day face unspeakable peril
to rescue us when we face losing everything.

This image is foremost in my memory of that terrible day:

A fireman walking the stairs upwards into a smoke-filled, choking, perilous unknown of a surprise attack
on a vast scale as people fled downstairs to save their own lives. Firemen are trained well, and yet there
are things that set them apart from others - their mastery of the instinct of fear and their instinctual drive
to save lives. He had to have known he would not make it out, but he still walked those stairs upwards,
dozens and dozens of floors. A hero, yes - but this is just another day in the life of a fireman.

Hammer on,
 chooks

Chooks, have you heard the story of Rick Rescorla?

Rescorla was Director of Security at Morgan Stanley. He insisted on holding twice-yearly evacuation drills
by the stairwell for the firm's 22 floors in the south tower.
When the first plane hit, they told occupants of the
South Tower "Stay put."   Rescorla said "Screw that" and ordered 2700 employees down the steps.

Those 2700 people are alive today because Resorla ignored his orders.

Rescorla died on 9-11 because he went back in to save others,
but there are 2,700 families who are damn grateful for Rick Rescorla.

As a result of Rescorla's actions, all but 13 of Morgan Stanley's 2,700 WTC employees survived.

     Rick Rescorla - hero

A shot of Chinaco for you, Rick.

I hope Morgan Stanley put your kids thru college.

And those 2700 survivors?
They should send your family a dollar a day for the rest of their lives.

Obama doesn't get it

Obama is proposing cutting payroll taxes to the tune of $1500 per worker per year.

That's right out of the Bartcop Tax Plan, but he's missed the mark - again.

Obama is essentially giving the worker a $28 a week raise.
That helps, sure, but what can the head of the house do with an extra $28?

He can buy some groceries, or 2/3 of a tank of gas - not much.

MY WAY puts the $1500 in the man's pocket all at once.
And if Mom's working, they now have $3000.
Say you have two teenagers who paid taxes last year - that's $6000.

Obama gives you $40, the
Bartcop Tax Plan gives you $6000.

The money is the same - why does Obama want you to have your
$6000
at a clip of $40 a week -
but if you had $6000 you could, say, move to
another state where they are hiring.

Unlike the rich, when a working family gets their rebate,
they won't gobble up some cash-starved small business and fire
the employees and sell the empty carcass to the highest bidder.

What would happen if the lower and middle class had some spending money?

They would use that $3,000-6000 to make a down payment on a car,  buy a washer-dryer,
a computer, maybe make some needed improvements on their home - all of which would
bring down factory inventories, causing Mr. Small Business to need to replenish his stock,
so factories will need to hire more workers to increase production.

Obama needs to stop coddling the super-rich and give the middle class some spending money.

Sometimes being blessed with an IQ of 64 lets me see things the smart people can't.

Subject: Obama's vacations

Come on, Bart.  You know better!
The number of days of vacation Barack has taken pales next to, not only BUSH, but all kinds of other presidents.

I understand about perception, but still..... this is one of the hardest working presidents, EVER, according to people
like David Gergen.  Just look at the list you posted the other day of Accomplishments.  It's INSANE how much work
this administration has done and with zero help from the other side, of course.  I think Barack deserves a little downtime.

Jesus... it's not like he's BUSH, who did nothing but vacation while bin Laden planned his big attack.  Grrrrrr
 Jill

Jill, we're talking about different subjects.
The subject I'm talking about is the anger that newly-homeless people must feel
when they see Obama smiling and laughing while playing golf with, say, John Boehner.

Can't he have his downtime without cameras?
