Quotes

"At some point after October 1, Obamacare is going to saunter into a Republican
congressional caucus meeting and stone cold murder the fuck out of everyone there.
Obamacare is gonna strangle John Boehner until he turns a deep persimmon color.
It's gonna shove Eric Cantor's glasses down his throat. And, fuck it, why not, it's
gonna break Louis Gohmert's head open to reveal the hollow space inside. Then,
bloodsoaked and sweaty, it'll head over to the Senate to do it all over again."

HuffPo, trying to stir up some hysteria

 Link

This sucker could go down. And unlike the Wall Street bailout, there is unlikely to be a do-over.

Is this really an adult, writing about America possibly going to war?
Maybe the writing standards for Huffpo are different from those at the Tequila Trehouse.

The Syrian war resolution is facing withering skepticism in Congress. While the Senate appears
poised to come to some type of agreement, the House is showing much more reluctance.

"Peace may well have a chance," said one top House GOP aide.

Cute.
God, I love cute during a discussion of going to war.

Public opinion surveys have been reflected in the outpouring of calls, emails and letters that
have flooded House offices, running, say lawmakers, at more than 9-to-1 against intervention.

If that's true (Can HuffPo be trusted?  They seem to prefer "cute" over substance)
I'd say Obama has 48 hours to reverse this or he's already lost it - if it's not lost already.

What a mess.

Why Race Conversations Suck
My headline  by Gene Lyons

  Link

If the president wants to understand why he heard car door locks clicking as he walked down the street,
he should study those two appalling homicides in Duncan, Oklahoma and Spokane, Washington that
Fox News is beating the drums about.

Yeah, yeah. I know. Fox, Rush Limbaugh and the rest are race-baiting. It’s what they do.
“Fox News Desperately Searches For The White Trayvon Martin,” is how Media Matters put it.
The ever-reliable Salon informed readers about “The Right’s Black Crime Obsession.”

  Subject: NSA scandal

Bart, I think the NSA scandal matters, NOT because my life is any worse but because
spying always ends up being about keeping one set of politicians in power by taking down
all challengers, which eventually produces stupider power, misery.
Still your fan!
  Michael in Chicago

Michael, thanks for that.
I hope people don't think I'm pro-NSA spying.

I mostly have no opinion and when Obama said, "This is important, we need this to be safe,"
I believed him and I moved on to worry about other things.

The problem is, Obama has no idea how to put a political fire out.
I think he's honest - for a politician - but he also needs to be competent.

Put another way, if only 17% of Democrats like his plans for Syria,
either Obama is a bad salesman or it's a bad plan.

One more thing about the NSA:
Seems to me the only argument is how much time illegal snoopers have to serve.

We're not going to get rid of the technology - it will continue to get more intrusive,
so let's make it 5 years mandatory for anyone caught snooping for personal reasons.

Subject: Syria

Bart I’m totally with you on Snowden that guy is not cool. And I agree that Obama is not Cheney.
And I agree that if Obama decides that he needs to bomb Syria he doesn’t have to ask the U.N or China
or anyone else, that’s his job. But I’m telling you man I hope he doesn’t.

From the beginning no one has been able to get accurate reports out of Syria and around here in Detroit
we have a large Arabic population I even have some friends from Syria and they say that a lot of the
reports we are seeing are not true and are in fact staged.

Now I understand that Obama’s intel is probable better than hearsay in Detroit. But I need to be 100% sure
that bombing is for the best before it starts. Lets say we do bomb faraway land, is that going to stop Assad?
When the smoke clears all reports are saying he will still be in power. In my humble opinion this is more
about Iran than Syria and even if we do bomb all we will accomplish is buying the rebels a few more months.
I think what we will end up with is a lot of grandstanding and threatening. I’m still not convinced this requires bombs.
 Bob in the D

Here's where we seem to be:
Kerry and Obama say they have THE PROOF.

Why don't they show everyone the proof?
Why don't they show Putin the proof?

But even with proof, the Democrats aren't coming along, right?

This is such a mess.

Do Democrats get that they are destroying Obama's presidency?
Or do they get that, and see the issue as more impiortant than winning in 2016?

He's now the weakest president since the last days of the Johnson administration and he's getting
weaker ever day.  "Lame duck" doesn't come close to describing Obama's position now.

This is such a mess.

OL BART is  MAKING A CALL for  AL QAEDA  JIHAD in SYRIA - just like obama,

Our good friend Dave Swanson and the betrayed (by obama/pelosi 'Democrats') genuinely "Liberal,"

infamous Bartcop 2822 - Bart takes up where McINSANE, Bush, ROVE, Cheney & Fleischer left off
- PIMPING MASS-MURDER and INFRASTRUCTURE DESTRUCTION by demented U.S. air-power!

STUPID  RETARD  faux  "liberal" Bart TAKES UP where CHENEY, ROVE Bush,
Ari FLEISCHER, and the whole 'neo-con' PNAC war lobby  left off:     PIMPING WARS,
pimping shamir, sharon, & netanyahu's  LIKUD "greater israel"  WARS, genocidal mass-murder,

"freedom" and "democracy" of course...
    drkmkts@aol.com

<snippage>  This was 1/17th of this nutjob's rant.

Apparently
drkmkts@aol.com gets an erection from listing the names of Republicans
who got rich off their phony invasion if Iraq, something I certainly was against.

Funny, he's accusing me of being right.

Had we slapped Assad back in February of 2012 when I wrote that,
he would likely be gone now and we wouldn't be where we are -  in potentially the
biggest international crisis since the Cuban Missle Crisis of 1962.

Funny also, how the people trying to STOP the genocide are the "warmongers"
and the people giving Assad the green light to continue gassing are the "people of peace."

Maybe "funny" isn't the right word for what's happening in Syria.

If I could afford a staff...

I might have them check the back pages for a list of names. Back to the summer of 2008 when I was
losing subscribers in f-ing droves because I said "Obama doesn't have enough experience to be president,"
I was told, "Go fuck yourself, you racist pig" by (I thought) friends who had been reading for years.

Day after day, it was "You racist pig" and each time I asked them to quote my racial slurs,
they couldn't find where I'd said anything racial, but they "knew" my "true feelings."

Now that Obama's inexperience is plain for all to see and proving to be very costly,
are any of those old friends writing to say, "Gee, Bart, maybe you were right?"

No, today I'm being called a "warmonger" for supporting Obama whom I felt wasn't ready
in the first place, while most of his "I would die for Obama in a hreatbeat" supporters
have turned on him, calling him, "another Cheney."

We crossed into the Bizzaro world years ago. I have no idea what world we're in now,
but it would be fun to read some of those 2008 accusations about how wrong I was.

Subject: Syria

Bart, no, you've not lost your mind, I would agree entirely, except that you are overlooking an important point.
There is little reason to think that this atrocity was actually carried out by Syria!

Most likely this attack was by covert operatives acting on behalf of the U.S. to legitimize U.S. intervention.
 Clive

Really?
Obama is a calculating, conniving warmonger who gassed hundreds of Syrian kids?

You are talking abour Barack Obama, right?

The guy who forgives his political enemies and then embraces them?

Subject: Obama's Deterrent Argument

Hi Bart,

The deterrent argument re Syria really doesn't hold up.
If  as you say  "once America sends the signal that you can mass-slaughter as many civilians as you want
and we'll stay out of it" then those floodgates opened a long time ago - Rwanda, Bosnia, Cambodia, et al.

Hey, Assad has killed hundreds of thousands of his citizens with conventional weapons already and that
didn't spark any response from us.   Now you might argue that using chemical weapons is a particular kind
of hell we won't tolerate and maybe that's a point - but I see it as the citizens are still dead whether by bomb,
gun or chemicals.  But as someone else pointed out to you, America is hardly immune to this kind of awful
behavior (see Hiroshima, our part in allowing Iraq to gas Iran) so is hardly in a position to speak "morally".

The moral thing to do is take the fortune we will be spending on "strategic" airstrikes that kill civilians too,
and instead spend it on the Syrian refugee problem in it's surrounding neighbors - maybe giving folks food and
shelter and a better life away from Assad will have a more positive outcome on how our morals are viewed in the world.
Just a thought -
  Gloria in Seattle

Gloria, thanks for your thoughts.

Subject: Syria

I like the debate on your website this month.
I agree with Obama when he decided to go to Congress for authorization.
(Let's hope this sets an example for future Presidents.)

Reagan didn't get permission when he invaded Grenada.
Bush the Snarter didn't get permission when he invaded Panama.
Clinton didn't get permission when he invaded Bosnia (with no loss of American lives).

Suddenly, the Black president needs to ask permission?

That makes Obama look weaker than Reagan, Bush and Clinton, and he has tied the hands
of future president by re-setting the precedent that you can't act without getting permission.

I disagree that you can degrade Syria's long-term chemical weapons capability,
or even his ground forces, through tactical strikes.

Really?
You're going to tell Obama, the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon that you know better?

In the long term, Assad's popularity will grow because he stood up to the United States.
Groups that already despise US intervention will overlook the fact that Assad is storing
weapons (both WMD and conventional) in civilian areas.  The US will not be able to
strike those weapons without killing civilians.

Violence begets violence.

So we would've been better off as subjects to the British crown?
We would've been better off letting Hitler take England?
We should've turned the other cheek when Japan hit Pearl Harbor?

Why do Democrats think this way?

Non-violence is something that should always be considered first.
But "I will not fught back" is guarantee for disaster every f-ing time.

Rather than be chastened by a US attack, Assad will feel compelled to respond.
His allies will launch covert attacks on Israel, and try to draw the US into further conflict.
In the short run, we can "win" that as well, but in the long run, all we can do is kill a
few individuals and blow up a few tanks.  We can't kill the movement.

You can fight a war on terrorists, but you can't fight a "war on terror".

Throughout history, many complex problems have been reduced to violent solutions.
The good that violence does is temporary.  There evil it does is permanent.  (That's mostly a quote from Gandhi)

So if you're at the park and some man tries to leave with your 5-year old daughter,
you're not going to fight him with everything you have?

Do you not get how crazy you sound?

I'm glad you're not my Dad.

I do not get "Fighting is always wrong" Democrats.

I voted for Obama because he opposed the war in Iraq.
He opposed it for different reasons than me, but at least he opposed it.

Obama is EXACTLY what you should want in a president:
He's against war, he despises war, but he understands that sometimes a tool must be used.

He opposed it because there were no WMD's  (perhaps they had been moved to Syria?).
I opposed it because the war was a money-making venture created by oil companies and war profiteers,
and sold to the public as a way to protect foreign citizens from their own government.

The only difference here is that the hawks have managed to convince Obama.

That's a wild assumption on your part.
You have no possible clue what went into his decison-making process.

I believe he is smart enough to change his mind, and to figure out a way to do so
before the blood starts flowing.  Let's hope that is why he went to Congress.
 Dave H.

You're forgetting Edith Keeler.

Subject: Massive effort to free Don Siegelman

Bart, i'm sure you've heard of don siegelman.
he's been a bright light in alabama state politics for many years - and for all the right reasons.
...until the '02 election, that is.  he was hounded by filthy right wing scum from the bush

i guess his only real crime is not being a dirty, mindless fascist during the bush years.
siegelman is a good guy who was at the wrong place at the wrong time - NOTHING more.
and he and his family have paid for it having to watch this poor bugger sit for two years of
his life in some shithole american prison.  'course, even under those conditions the guy bears up
under it with the utmost grace and humility.  this is a travesty - hell, it's a fucking disgrace.
