Thinking Past Plan B in Iraq
 by Ivan Eland

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
After initially spurning the Iraq Study Group's (ISG) recommendations, Bush now seems inclined toward
the ISG's recommendation of transforming the U.S. military's role from fighting insurgents and militias into
a smaller force that would train Iraqi forces in seeming perpetuity.

Although this solution would lower U.S. casualties, and perhaps increase GOP chances in the 2008 elections,
it will do little to dampen the combination of guerrilla and civil war in Iraq. A more radical solution is needed:
a dramatic decentralization of Iraqi governance.

This ISG strategy has actually already been tried and has failed. U.S. forces have been training Iraqis for years
but Bush elected to spearhead the surge into Baghdad with U.S. forces because Iraqi units were unreliable.

Plot to backstab Al-Sadr fails
They invite him to peace talks, them ambush him

 independent.co.uk

 Excerpt:
The US Army tried to kill or capture Muqtada al-Sadr, the widely revered Shia cleric, after luring him to
peace negotiations at a house in the holy city of Najaf, which it then attacked, say Iraqi government officials.

The revelation of this extraordinary plot, which would probably have provoked an uprising by outraged Shia
if it had succeeded, has left a legacy of bitter distrust in the mind of Mr Sadr for which the US and its allies in
Iraq may still be paying. "That made Muqtada lose any confidence or trust in the invaders and made him really wild,"
the Iraqi National Security Adviser Dr Mowaffaq Rubai'e told The Independent in an interview. It is not known
who gave the orders for the attempt on Mr Sadr but it is one of a series of ill-considered and politically explosive
US actions in Iraq since the invasion. In January this year a US helicopter assault team tried to kidnap two senior
Iranian security officials on an official visit to the Iraqi President.

Is it possible to screw up this bad?
So word is out that when the Americans talk peace, it's a death trap?

They've blown this war in more ways than Bush blows Jeff Gannon.

Subject: a Million Thanks cards

Bart...
Have you seen the 'commercial' on the telly where the young lady says
she started 'a million thanks' card collection for the troops....

Buick, Pontiac, and GMC dealers have offered to host the collection boxes
in ALL of their dealerships. Thanks, indeed.

Smithsonian Alters Climate Exhibition

 truthout.org

 Excerpt:
The Smithsonian Institution toned down an exhibit on climate change in the Arctic for fear of
angering Congress and the Fascist Bush administration, says a former administrator at the museum.

Among other things, the script, or official text, of last year's exhibit was rewritten to minimize and inject
more uncertainty into the relationship between global warming and humans, said Robert Sullivan, who was
associate director in charge of exhibitions at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.

Also, officials omitted scientists' interpretation of some research and let visitors draw their own conclusions
from the data, he said. Graphs were altered "to show that global warming could go either way," Sullivan said.

Well sure, "either way" like when gravity sometimes pulls and sometimes makes everybody fly.
We need to get religious insanity out of government and allow more room for science and logic.

The GOP's Torture Enthusiasts

  commondreams.org

 Excerpt:
Rudy said, "It shouldn't be torture, but every method they can think of."
Mitt Romney naturally had to up the ante. "I'm glad they're at Guantanamo...
My view is, we ought to double Guantanamo." I am politician, hear me roar!

Duncan Hunter boasted that, "in terms of getting information that would save American lives,
even if it involves very high-pressure techniques, one sentence: Get the information."

Tom Tancredo: "We're wondering about whether water-boarding would be a - a bad thing to do?
I'm looking for Jack Bauer at that time, let me tell you."

Only McCain and Ron paul were hesitant to endorse torture.
McCain, because he's been a victim of it. Paul, because he has a brain.

Subject: what happened to Dennis Miller?

Hey Bart,

What the hell happened to Dennis Miller?
I remember his HBO show -- he was a big Clinton supporter during the impeachment -- and occasionally funny.
Now he's doing incredibly lame Hillary jokes. Did he get popped for cocaine or child porn and now he has to
"work it off" by servicing the neocons on Fox News? It's the only explanation that makes any sense.
That or demonic possession...

Jack Hughes
evilGOPbastards.com

Jack, on 9-11, he heard somebody call Rudy "a Nazi," so he threw away 40 years of conviction
(and his career) and he started blowing Bush in public and he can't understand why his old audience
of well-read liberals told him to fuck off.

Poor schmuck had the best job on TV, the job Bill Maher has now,
and he threw it away to prove what a great president Bush is!    LOL!

Have you ever seen someone (besides McCain) throw it all away for such a totally lost cause?

'The Nation' hates Hillary
Why can't they just tell the truth?

 Link

 Excerpt:
The Nation, once a respected resource of liberal opinion and journalism, has seemingly declared war on
Hillary Clinton. Their recent pieces on her contain at least two factual inaccuracies, casting doubt on the
veracity of the entire series of articles and the motives of the author. When discussing the 2005 bankruptcy bill,
for example, Ari Berman tries to build a case for Sen. Clinton being in favor of that legislation because she
voted for a similar bill in 2001 that did not pass and because she missed the vote on the 2005 version.
What the author either neglects to mention (or just did not know) was Clinton not only opposed the 2005 bill
as indicated in a speech the day before, she was also one of only 29 Senators to vote against cloture on it.
Few faulted Clinton for missing the vote - she was by her husband's side during his open heart surgery.

There are so many "Democrats" who would rather see a Republican win than Hillary.
Why is she still in this race, knowing that if she wins, she'll have to fight all sides?

Bush to lose Brits in Iraq

 telegraph.co.uk

 Excerpt:
Gordon Brown is prepared to risk the future of the "special relationship" with the United States by reversing
Blair's poodleness for Bush's bloody quagmire,  Bush has been warned. He has been told to expect an
announcement on British troop withdrawals during new PM Brown's first 100 days in power.  Details of the
talks came as a close ally of Mr Brown called for a quicker withdrawal of British troops. Nigel Griffiths,
a former minister, said: "We should get out of Iraq as soon as is practicable. We should consult the Iraqi
government - but they cannot have a veto. This cannot be delayed."

Then our Monkey will beat his chest and declare once again that he's right, and that every other leader
in the free world is wrong - and the American whore media will continue to prop him up.

Subject: Hagel & Bloomberg

The problem with these two, is that I don't just think they'll split the Republican vote.
I think they'll hurt the Democratic vote too... Hagel's been EXTREMELY outspoken about the war.

A lot of Dems would vote for him just for that reason (and unfortunately wouldn't pay
any attention to his extreme right wing views on everything else).
 Matt

But Hagel voted FOR the war and hasn't apologized.

Oh, that's right - he gets a pass.

nevermind...

Hey Bart,

Why don't you let your readers browse her words from the speech she delivered the day
they voted to authorize war. She states directly that this vote is NOT for a rush to war.

 Link

She, like the rest of the dems, was voting for a show of strength. I.e. they were putting
the country before party and NOT playing politics with national security.

Ben, I don't think the facts are allowed to interfere.

I have no trouble answering questions about issues I feel strongly about.
Those who hate her, but can't explain why they gave Kerry a pass, prove my point.

Subject: Her fame

Robert Mitchum?  I'm starting to get some gray hair, but I had to look up that reference.
His face was familiar, but the obit from 1997 says -- Mitchum starred in more than 100 movies, including
"The Story of G.I. Joe" and "The Sundowners," and played the fearsome ex-convict in the original "Cape Fear."
Sorry, never heard of the first two.

The Wikipedia article about "Cape Fear" mentions "The Night of the Hunter".
Never heard of it either, but it might be worth watching
    http://www.jackasscritics.com/movie.php?movie_key=147

My guess is that more kids have heard of Paris Hilton's chihuahua Tinkerbell than Robert Mitchum.

Robert Mitchum doesn't deserve that, but I think you're right.

(Note the similarities between spoiled rich girl Paris and that spoiled rich boy W,
who also carries around a toy dog.    When I consider their awful parents,
I'm reminded of the title of that Gay Nineties song "She is more to be pitied than censured".)
 Brad

Lots of people wrote about the similarities between the two, but Paris never tried to
take over the world, and Paris didn't steal $10,000 from every family in America
and she hasn't killed 3500 soldiers and she never ordered the Mother of all Bombs
to be dropped on a city of 5 million people - so there are some differences between the two.

Bart,

That title was just to get your attention. But what the hell?
Al Franken has nearly the exact same mock interview in his book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot."
He uses the exact same quotes from Limbaugh but his questions are different.

I'm not accusing you of anything but that is one hell of a coincidence.
If your dating is correct (1995) then it was impossible for you to have stolen it
directly from Al. (RLBFI came out in 1996 i believe.)

one is more likely to write when they disagree than when they agree.

From: BUSHisLIAR

Subject: you hacked up my e-mail

What a lying fuck you are, you do this all the time.
You've done it to me several times.

No, I've never lost the body of an e-mail you wrote.
And aren't you just the sweetest person to start an e-mail that way?

It's one of the tricks you adopted from the right, misquoting and skewing
what someone said to make it seem like you won the argument.

That's crazy talk.
There's no argument that I have to cheat on or change to put on the page.
You're making crazy charges that won't stick and that makes you angry.
I often EDIT letters, because that's what an editor does.

If you send a long-ass e-mail, I might skim it and, if I see a paragraph or two that
seem interesting I might pull that out, but why would I have to change what you said?

What pearls of wisdom have you sent me that was "too hot" to print?

Your other trick is to call anyone that criticizes Hillary (the pandering phenom) a Hillary-hater.

No, that too is crazy talk.
If you say, "I didn't like her war vote," that's not hatred and I wouldn't call you a hater.
But if you said, "That fat c**t is so fucked up I wish she'd die," yeah, that's kinda hateful.

This is what the right does when someone criticizes Bush, his administration or his policies.

Seriously - what would you like to say that I have to block?
What part of BUSHisLIAR do I have a problem with?

They won't address the valid criticism you made, instead they call you a Bush-hater
in an attempt to diminish & dismiss your criticism.

They are guilty and they don't allow people like you a forum to speak.
Since we're reading your words, that obviously must not apply to me.

You are more like Limbaugh, Hannity & O'Reilly than you are different than them.

That was mean.
I'm 100 times for honest and fair than those lying scumbags.
It just proves how wildly out-of-touch you are.

Different politics, same tactics & intellectual dishonesty.
 BUSHisLIAR

Neither of those three have ever told the truth in their careers.
You must have a tiny penis to make such ridiculously false charges.

Are you going to send me your pearls of wisdom that scared me
so we can show EVERYBODY your invincible argument that I dare not print?

Wait, let me guess - you're "too busy" to do that now, right?

"This war is helping Al Qaeda. George Bush is helping Al Qaeda. And every member of Congress
who continues to support this war is helping Al Qaeda. We already knew this - the CIA determined
a long time ago that Iraq had become the newest and best training ground for Al Qaeda in the world.
The Republicans have quite literally enabled Al Qaeda so that they are better able to kill our troops.
When is the Republican noise machine going to start defending America instead of their failed president?"
    -- John Aravosis,   americablog.com

I'm confused again.
Osama is Sunni, Iran is Shia.
Why are they teaming up?
And if they're teamed up, why kill each other in Baghdad?

Maybe they're not teamed up.
Maybe the BFEE is just claiming that Iran is funding Al Qaeda
as another excuse to invade another oil-rich country.

When in doubt, bet on Bush stealing someone's oil.

I never liked George Will, but in 1992 (or was it 1996?), I began hating him.

Giuliani Insider Is Now a Critic

 nywhoretimes

 Excerpt:
As Giuliani runs for president, his image as a chief executive who steered New York through 9-11 has become
a pillar of his campaign. But one former member of his inner circle keeps surfacing to revisit that history in ways that
are unflattering to Mr. Giuliani: Jerome M. Hauer, New York City's first emergency management director.

Hauer has challenged Mr. Giuliani's recollection that he had little role as mayor in placing the city's emergency
command center at the ill-fated World Trade Center.   Hauer has also disputed the claim by the Giuliani campaign
that the mayor's wife, Judith Giuliani, had coordinated a help center for families after the attack.

Rudy was on Dave last night.
It took him about 60 seconds to bring up 9-11.

Gas prices: Worse than '81
It's what happens when oil men steal power

 Link

 Excerpt:
Gasoline prices have soared to levels never seen before as even the inflation-adjusted price for a gallon
of unleaded topped the 1981 record spike in price that had stood for 26 years.

And higher prices could be on the way as Americans get ready to hit the road for the Memorial Day holiday
and the start of the summer driving season. Two different surveys found record high pump prices once again.
Retailers say soaring gas prices are prompting U.S. consumers to cut back on their purchases and shopping trips.

The Lundberg Survey put the price of a gallon of unleaded at $3.18 in its latest reading,
up more than 11 cents from its reading of two weeks ago.

We need a whole 'nother congress to investigate
all of Bush's crimes and the crimes of Bush cronies.

Iraq pumped 3.5M barrels daily before Bush invaded
and then they got their 2003 Halliburton upgrade

Bush is stealing $220,000,000 every day.

No wonder they were so eager to start a war,

stealing  $220,000,000 every day.

It's the biggest theft in Earth's history.

Exxon made $10B profit in 90 days
$100M a day - all profit - because Bush started a fake war

Bush's "Bring 'em on" death taunt is up to...

3,409....3,422 American victims

13 more families destroyed by Bush greed since last issue.
14 if you count the families of the kidnapped.

...and how much did BIG OIL make yesterday?
Exxon makes $108M - every day

Bush can live with that,
because Iraq's oil wells have no meters
and his front company is moving to Dubai.

 $100M a day,
$200M a day,
$300M a day - where's that money going?

Bush has killed more Americans than Osama.

TV Stuff

Tonight is the last ever Veronica Mars.

In the second of the two episodes, someone tapes Veronica and her boyfriend having sex
and puts it (I assume) on the internet for all to see. That pisses her off like crazy.

If you watch Veronica Mars (You don't - that's why they cancelled it) you know she gets revenge.
If you piss her off and aren't dead at the end of the episode, you're probably in prison or, if you just
halfway pissed her off, you probably woke up naked and duct-taped to a flagpole.

I wonder what she's going to do to the poor bastard after she catches him?

Bart, between the two postings that had to do with my e-mail, no one could have a clue what it was about.
Something about Durbin being crazy is what everyone came away with, and that I have a f-word potty mouth.

As you are intimately aware, the critical point never got spotlighted, along with a bartcop rebuttal.
Because you can not come up with one.  I knew I had you with this when I sent it.

No, I sent you an e-mail saying, :

Do you accept the challenge?
Was all that just smoke or can you back it up?

I almost felt bad sending it...because I knew you would
be forced to do something like what you did.

Dude, thanks for going easy on me.

I realize you are too heavily invested in the argument you have made for the last 4-5 years so
I half-expected you to do something like this.

What am I invested in?
What argument was made?
What did you expect and what did I eventually do?
I don't have time for guessing games.

I won't be relating this on DU.
Because it is too pathetic.
Your secret is safe with me.

ha ha

Thank you for helping me hide my patheticism :)

Do you mind (and I am serious) my asking when you were approached by the Hillary camp?
I am not asking how much you recieve, that would be rude.
I am just wondering how far back this goes?

Computer Tyme Hosting is owned by Marc Perkel, who first put Bartcop on the Internet back in 1996 and keeps  Bartcop online today.

Marc hosts several other political sites including American Politics Journal, Political StrikesFaux News Channel, Seeds of Doubt and interesting sites like the
Church of Reality - a religion based on believing in everything that is real.

Our motto for this year is - "No Anti-Bush Site Left Behind". So - if you have an anti-bush site and you are  choking on hosting fees or dealing with threats - let us know and we'll help keep you online.

We also have that strongest server side spam filtering on the planet.
Check out Marx Mail for info on how you can have a Spam Free Email Account.
