Senate Joins House in Caving on FISA

The U.S. Senate this afternoon passed Bush's FISA Amendments Act, broadly expanding the
president's warrantless surveillance authority and unconstitutionally granting retroactive immunity
to telecommunications companies that participated in the president's illegal domestic spying program.
The House passed the same bill last month, and Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law shortly.

"It is an immeasurable tragedy that just after its return from the Fourth of July holiday, the Senate has
chosen to pass a bill that betrays the spirit of 1776 by radically expanding the president's spying powers
and granting immunity to the companies that colluded in his illegal surveillance program," said Senior Staff
Attorney Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). "This so-called compromise bill
represents a shameful capitulation to the overreaching demands of an imperial president. As Senator Leahy
put it in yesterday's debate, the retroactive immunity provision of the bill upends the scales of justice and
makes Congress and the courts handmaidens to the White House's cover-up of its illegal surveillance program."
 

The sons of bitches just repealed the 4th Amendment.

Fourth Amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,
against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated  has been violated.

We're no longer secure - we have the Bush bastards watching and listening
and they've given retroactive immunity to the criminals who have helped them.

Obama promised to fight this and Feingold promised to filibuster it.
The Democrats caved in - again - to the Fuhrer with an apporoval rating in the 20s.

Bush Lifts Ban on New Solar Projects

Now that both Obama and McCain voted for the FISA spy bill we are stuck with a choice.
Do we want Obama spying on us or McCain spying on us?

It appears that Obama is NOT "Change we can believe in" and McCain is anything but "Straight Talk".

Today Congress caved in and burned the Constitution.

Randi Rhodes said Obama HAD to vote for the FISA bill
to get the backing of Pelosi and Hoyer in Denver this summer.

This theory raises a few questions:
Why do Pelosi and Hoyer need this illegal FISA bill to pass?
Is Hillary going to make a run at Obama in Denver, and Obama 
   had to get Pelosi and Hoyer onboard to defend against that run?
Did Obama vote for this illegal bill to appear tough on defense?
   After criticizing Hillary for her "war vote," saying he had "better judgment,"
   how can he now do exactly what she did and vote hawkish and pro-military?

But - how can anything Randi says be taken seriously after she said 
Hillary would have her killed if she mentioned Hillary's secrets on the air?

I think Jesse Jackson should apologize for his remarks about Obama on Don Imus's show.
Jackson enjoys rubbing everyone else's nose in it when they misspeak so when the Reverend
Jackson makes a comment about cutting off Obama's testicles I think he deserves more punishment.

Bush, Iran - Eager for War
 Why is Iran provoking the insane Fuhrer?

The US vowed to defend Israel and its other allies in the Gulf, as Iran carried out
its second ballistic missile test in two days yesterday.

As the situation worsened in the Gulf, the French oil company Total said it would pull out
of a large-scale investment in an Iranian gas field - a serious blow to Tehran, which is keen
to exploit its gas reserves, and a victory for Bush, who wants war so bad he can taste it.
Oil prices resumed climbing yesterday, which happens when oil men threaten oil countries.

If Israel did attack Iran, Tehran could create upheaval in the Middle East, with its ally
Hezbollah creating trouble on Israel's northern border and Iranian proteges in Iraq and
Afghanistan also going on the offensive against US troops.
 

So - Bush wants oil at $300 a barrel and he doesn't care how many soldiers die.

Bush is a busted poker player, so now he's going to his car and he's coming back
with a shotgun and he's going to "get even" with the players who "cheated him."

He's going to dump this on Obama and all that oil they've been stealing will now
be sold for $300 instead of the paltry $28 oil sold for when Bush stole power.

They're doing it right in front of our noses and nobody will call them on it.

Waxman Threatens Mukasey With Contempt

The Fundraising Thing...
 Clearly, I'm not very good at it.

 I was hoping to have that fundraising thermometer up for a month or so,
 but at the rate we're going, we won't hit our $10,000 goal by the end of 2008
 so clearly, some adjustments need to be made - anybody got any ideas?

 Seems like the bigger, more important sites can say,
"We need to raise $50,000 by Monday" and then they reach that goal

 We have some new and exciting thermometer graphics by Daoud
 that are stacking up like Delta flights at JFK on Friday night.

 Anybody got any good fundraising ideas?
 I thought about a car wash, but I don't have any young girls in swim suits.

 I know - is there reward for strangling Rush, Hannity or O'Reilly?
 It's getting closer to the time to roll the dice :)

Antarctic ice shelf 'hanging by thread'

in a troubling sign of global warming, the European Space Agency (ESA) said on Thursday.

to Charcot Island, one of the plate's key anchors to the Antarctic peninsula, ESA said in a press release.

"Since the connection to the island... helps stabilise the ice shelf, it is likely the breakup of the bridge
will put the remainder of the ice shelf at risk," it said.

Subject: Donation

Dear Bart,
A couple of weeks ago I pledged $20 to the Obama campaign
but when he caved on FISA I decided not to go through with it.

This morning I wrote him and stated "Yesterday while you were
helping Der Fuhrer shred the constitution I was shredding my pledge."

I am a self employed starving artist with not much income but now
I have $20 to give away and I decided that no one deserves it more
than Bartcop. I know it's not much but I hope it helps.

Also I found Jesse Jackson's comment about wanting to cut
Obama's "nuts off" outrageous. A Democrat with nuts! Come on!
