Bart,
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court claimed that the 14th Amendment to
the Constitution prohibits states from implementing laws
that conflict with other parts of the Constitution (in this case, the
2nd Amendment). Wow! That ruling prohibits states from
ignoring
other states' homosexual marriages (Article IV, Section 1); does not
allow states to elect anyone who has recommended secession,
or challenged the validity of the US debt (14th Amendment); forbids
voting tests that reduce minorities' representation (15th Amendment);
and eliminates the states' authority to engage in any sort of racial
profiling (as is expected from Arizona). It basically removes the
old doctrine of States' Rights that the right wing used to use to
justify new era Jim Crow laws. By a relatively liberal
interpretation,
it removes all state officials who have ever belonged to, or supported,
the KKK, the Tea Party, or the Independent American Party.
So who was behind this sweeping elimination of States' Rights?
The "liberals" on the Court? You be the judge.
Voting in favor of this ruling were Alito, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and
Kennedy.
Voting against were Stevens, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Sotomayor.
Why are the right-wing judges trying to dismantle States' Rights?

I know nothing about Microsoft Expression nor Netscape but I do know something about programmers.
I was one for many years and I also managed them for 8 years. Although we were mainframe programmers
the problem of programmers wanting to do things because they are interesting or just to learn a new technique
or product is nothing new. The problem isn't really with the programmers, it's with their management and customers.
t's good that programmers are so naturally curious and eager to try new things but it has to be properly managed
n a production environment. Because I was a programmer myself I was onto their tricks and not so easily fooled.
Such isn't usually the case with non-technical customers and management who have business but little or no
technical knowledge, or they may have technical knowledge in another area but not in the one in question.
They are ripe for manipulation. So they can be fooled into believing that changing the shape and color of a button
is really a worthwhile enhancement, for example. Software development and modification should be rigorously monitored,
walked through, and tested by people other than the developer. Frivolous changes are not only annoying, they can
introduce needless complexity, compromise system quality and performance. Unintended consequences are common
with even the most simple changes to software systems.
so it's inexcusable that any software of that type is still having the fundamental problems such as you describe.
Don't they ever test anything anymore? It must be like toasters. They were among the earliest electrical appliances
and have been manufactured for a very long time. Yet it's very difficult to find a decent toaster, in my experience.

Did you see the season premier last night?Tommy the NY fireman was shot by his uncle and
was bleeding out.
In the ambulance, he "died" and woke up in a body bag a huge airplane
hanger with 343 other body bags.
Why 343?
On 9-11, New York lost 343 fireman in the World Trade Centers.
I'm amazed that a show that deep can have so much comedy at the same time.
BTW, as the other 343 walked into the light,
Tommy woke up and survived.
