I started reading Bartcop in college around issue 50. I got to see the train wreck that was issue 100 as it happened. He was the first person I knew of to point out how the Republicans loved to play bitchslap politics: If a liberal argued logically and calmly, you got called a pussy and a wimp. If you met fire with fire, the Liberal would be called unhinged and irrational. After about five years of Bartcop, my Republican relatives stopped arguing politics with me. I stopped arguing like a Liberal wimp and they just couldn't handle it.

RIP, Bartcop.

This is where we gathered after the horror of the 2000 Selection. This is where we argued about the proper response to 9/11. This is where I badgered Atrios into starting a blog and gave him the Blogger URL so he would do it. This where I met him and Theoectomy and Mark and Moosie and all of you and I'm so glad for that. Thank you for everything, Bart, and all of his friends and family, because the last 14 years would have been unbearable without you.

Very sad news but I rejoice that Bart shared his thoughts and talents with us during this lifetime. Bartcop has always been one of my favorite blogs and his humor, wit, and thoughts will be missed terribly.

I am very saddened by this news. Bart said things that needed to be said. I first started reading him during GWB's years. His voice was needed.

I was shocked to read the news this morning. I mourn the passing of one of my favorite internet ranters and I feel for his wife and friends as they grieve for him, too. I was a fan for nearly a decade and, as it always seems to be with these things, I simply assumed Bart would always be around. Heading home to hug my wife and kids now.
